  1. It's a great quote!
  2. Congrats on getting your TBR pile down frankie .
  3. XD sorry, you're right . It's actually very light and small, a great size for my hands!
  4. I haven't seen the last film (nor the one before that, yet XD), do you mean that you didn't like it? I thought the first three were okay but not brilliant (I'm not a big fan of the books (borrowed them from my sister), though I did like them). I liked book one and four the most, so maybe the last two films were better than two and three. Sorry if this was off-topic . I have to say, this topic is a great idea! I don't think I learn a lot of new words these days, though if it counts, yesterday I learned that it's "computation time" and not "computational time". I looked this up for my brother who's writing a report.
  5. I got the Kindle Paperweight. I figured I might as well pay a bit extra for more functionality. The reviews for this one were mainly positive. The only negative thing people said was about the light, I thought, if it turns out to be bad I could just have the light turned off just like on a normal Kindle. I haven't used the Kindle much yet (I'm reading the Kindle User Guide atm), but so far I'm really pleased with it ! The light looks good, and the device looks good also with the light turned off (I haven't actually seen a Kindle in use before I got my one). I can see what some people mean about the light not being evenly spread, but so far on mine it's quite good, it's very very readable. This is also my first device with touchscreen functionality, so it's a new thing for me but so far it's going well (on my parents' iPad I sometimes press wrong, I guess it might take some getting used to for that). I'm excited and pleased with the Kindle so far, now I'll have to see how I can organise books etc. I have the Kindle program for the PC and books are into categories there. Well I'm only on page 2 of the user guide, I decided to post on this forum instead XD. It's currently charging through the PC, I'm not sure how long it will take to charge or how full the battery is, will have to see how quickly or slowly it drains. Exciting times!
  6. I just finished reading Catching Fire, wow, what a great read! They may be Young-Adult books but I found them to be really enjoyable (not that the two are mutally exclusive or anything). There were several plot twists I didn't see coming. As with the first book, it again occurs to me why so many people are so excited about these books, they are just really good!
  7. I've finished reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (some thoughts are in my topic) and am now doubting whether to start Mockingjay or Marley & Me. I've also just received my Kindle so I'll probably be busy fiddling with that too.
  8. I've finished reading Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Wow, what a read! This book had several plot twists that were really unexpected for me. I hadn't heard much about what'd happen in the second book, didn't have it spoiled for me, so when I started reading it I only knew what it says on the back of the book (which isn't much). It was a really good read! Some thoughts: ***** (5/5) I'm doubting if I should start Mockingjay straight away or whether I'm going to read John Grogan - Marley & Me first. Maybe I'll start both XD. Last time when I started two books, I found it to be quite doable. In other news, my Kindle has arrived!
  9. That's a beautiful book!
  10. @ chesilbeach I've bought Volume One of Mapp and Lucia, will hopefully buy Volume Two before I read it as I presume it splits the story in half. Glad to hear you like the book .
  11. I read this book for English class, unfortunately I don't remember a lot from it. I liked it but I didn't think it was brilliant (**** (4/5)). To be honest, I think I might understand it better if I were to re-read it. It's upstairs in a box atm, so that probably won't happen any time soon.
  12. Athena

    Hello :)

Welcome here ! Nice that you have so many pets/animals around you. We have dogs, goats and chicken, so not quite as many different kinds of animals as you do.
  13. I opened the curtains this morning and ! snow! So we've got quite a bit of snow now.. not really what they predicted a few days ago (they said it would get warmer). My brother and his girlfriend made a snowpuppet (I don't think it's necessarily got a gender so I'm calling it snowpuppet instead of 'snowman'). It's a beautiful sight, all the snow, but unhandy when you have to be in it. It's stopped snowing for the moment but it has snowed for most of the day. I'm enjoying my weekend but am still feeling tired (admittedly, some of the things I've done didn't help with that, ie. helping to cook something or talking with my family).
  14. I just thought of another one! I saw the movie The Time Machine before I read the book, and I much prefer the movie. Not that the book was bad by any means, it was pretty good, but the movie had a lot more elements to it that I thought really helped the story, partially due to those, the main character was much more likeable than in the book, to me.
  15. We made pancakes yesterday. I've only ever eaten pancakes a few times in my life (I didn't like them much when I was younger), so it was quite nice to have it again.
  16. I haven't heard of World Book Night either. Congrats to Kell, it sounds pretty awesome that you've been chosen, and with your first choice book!
  17. I assume the one about the Norths is Great North Road? I've got it on my wishlist.
  18. The Painted Man (in the US: The Warded Man) is the first in Peter V. Brett's series, the second is The Desert Spear. I really loved both of those books (and am eagerly awaiting the paperback release of The Daylight War). I hope you enjoy these books, as well as the Peter F. Hamilton books (I love his Night's Dawn trilogy).
  19. This sounds great! Good thing I purchased it last week(when I saw it cheaply somewhere), I look forward to read it!
  20. I have this book, and your review makes me think I made the right choice in buying it (I bought it on a book fair) . I haven't read it yet .
  21. Welcome here! Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors, and fantasy and science-fiction are two of my favourite genres. I'm sure you'll find some nice recommendations on this forum (you could also make your own topic in the Reading Lists forum). I'd be happy to recommend you something but would need to know more about what kind of fantasy or science-fiction you like best (I'm not big on horror and the only recommendation I could pretty much make is Stephen King, I haven't read many books by other horror authors) (unless you just want me to list my favourites, I could do that too XD). Anyway, I hope you enjoy it here!
  22. Well I really like the film of The Notebook, but I saw the film before I read the book so that might colour my opinion (it's such a great film, though). In the other cases I can think of atm, I always liked the book better (but then I usually read the book first..). Maybe I just like best what I read/see first .
  23. I don't think there's something like this in my country, at least not that I know of. Book shops do do their own sales sometimes. Would be great if there was a national annual book sale, it sounds like a great idea .
  24. Welcome here . I live on a farm too (with my parents), though we aren't farmers. We have dogs, goats and chicken and just have them because it's nice (as pets I suppose). Our drive is muddy too though with this weather XD, so I can understand where you're coming from.
  25. @Nollaig Good luck Nollaig (or has the meeting already been *insert unsure emoticon*?). @risingdawn Hopefully you won't drop it! @Chrissy Nice that you cleaned!
