    Hi

    Welcome here !
  2. Ah I didn't know that, I thought it was a common thing. Yeah true, your eyes can hurt from that, at least mine do sometimes after such a test. Good luck with it! Any particular kind of glasses you have in mind, that you want to buy?
  3. I hope you feel better soon, frankie. It doesn't sound nice at all . On the plus side, I hope you have lots of fun reading!
  4. I finished reading John Grogan - Marley & Me and Ryan Ennis - This Thursday Surprise. The latter was a Kindle freebie. John Grogan - Marley & Me The book is basically a biography of John Grogan, focused on his dog Marley and the life he has with his wife. I had seen the film and really liked it, so I thought I'd give the book a try. I'm glad I did! It's such an amazing story, very well written. It's funny what Marley gets up to, I had to laugh out loud sometimes. I like dogs, so I understood the connection John Grogan had with Marley, as I love our dogs a lot too. It does get sad towards the end, and I cried. If you really like dogs, you'll like this book. Rating: ***** (5/5) Ryan Ennis - This Thursday Surprise This was a Kindle freebie, it's a short story, I think meant for children, to explain what autism means. I found it to be not that explanatory, there were only a few lines in there that were meaningful in this regard, imo. I did enjoy the story, it's a nice short little story. I thought the writing style seemed like it was meant for older children. Maybe it's meant to read to a child? I'm not sure. I liked the writing style, it seemed fine for adults, I'm just not sure how young a child would be able to follow it. The story comes with nice illustrations, which are probably better visible on a computer screen rather than a Kindle, they were still nice to look at though. All in all, it's a nice short story, entertaining, but I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't free. Rating: *** (3/5) I'm currently reading some information freebies on the Kindle, and thinking what physical book I shall start: The Hobbit (by J. R. R. Tolkien) or Home Front by Kirstin Hannah. EDIT: Also, I bought a lot of books at a book fair and am still busy cataloguing them (I couldn't do it much because I've been ill). I don't think I should post the whole list XD.
  5. There are lots of nice books on your list (that are on my TBR too). Happy reading !
  6. I love Sophie Kinsella's books! I look forward to hear what you think of Twenties Girl, I really liked it .
  7. This is great to hear , I was reluctant to read it because I don't like it when a religion is forced upon me. My mum was given the book as a gift (in English), she doesn't read English books for fun though and I do, so she gave it to me.
  8. It's great to hear you enjoy it ! I look forward to see/read your thoughts once you've finished it.
  9. I've finished reading John Grogan - Marley & Me (this was an amazing book) and I've read Ryan Ennis - The Thursday Surprise. I've been reading some information books on my Kindle (freebies), I haven't started a new physical book yet, thinking about starting either J. R. R. Tolkien - The Hobbit or Kirstin Hannah - Home Front.
  10. The rest of the posters have already given some nice advice, I'm not sure I have a lot to add. I enjoy gaming too, though due to my disability I can't play video games that much. I especially love the story in video games, that's why I mainly like to play games with a nice story (ie. RPGs). I've loved reading for a long time, my love for video games didn't start until a little bit later, when I was about 8-9 I think, and we got a console and a computer (I can't remember which one we got first, probably the console). There are many great books but you have to find one that you'll like. If possible you could read excerpts from the first bit of books, before you buy them (ie. on Amazon or on the author's site they sometimes give you the opportunity to read some pages of the book). Books based on video games, would be one idea to start with. What kind of stories do you like, in video games? Ie. if you like fantasy stories, you'll know to look for books in that genre (and likewise for science-fiction, contemporary, historical, thrillers, etc).
  11. I agree! It's so nice to do that. I'm hoping to get another book case too in a while, it'll be fun!
  12. Good luck risingdawn! Eye tests can be a pain, not necessarily looking at the pictures, but some other tests are (I don't know if they test for that where you live, it's ie. a test to do with the pressure on your eye balls). Congrats, Noll! Have fun Tim! Have fun! Happy Anniversary! I've been ill, so I haven't been on the forums much. I'm going through a bit of a tough time lately. I'm stuck with my project at the university, I'm very stressed (about my project, among other things), some other things in life. I heard last week that most likely I won't make the graduation in June, I'm really hoping I'll make the August one though. It took me some days to adjust to it, tbh I'll be really glad once it's all over, once I have my diploma I can stop worrying about uni. I did go to a book fair a few days ago which really cheered me up, I haven't catalogued all the books yet (I felt too ill), but once I feel a bit better I'll probably do so (and then put them with my other books). It's not all bad in my life, my dad got some good news yesterday to do with his job, so that's quite nice. There was also bad news yesterday, the government has decided, despite our protests, to run a cycle path through our garden. So we're not happy with that.
  13. pontalba, that's a great picture !
  14. I'm glad to hear Reuben is feeling a bit better, bobblybear . risingdawn, sorry to hear about your cat .
  15. I've just seen that our Dutch channel is going to show new Top Gear episodes in a few weeks (new to us, at least)!
  16. Good luck bobblybear, I hope Reuben will feel better soon . Hopefully the vet can tell you what's wrong and help him get better.
  17. How did you like Shaman's Crossing? Sorry to hear you're confused by The Reality Dysfunction. I don't remember that much from the beginning, it kind of gripped me from the start (I love all the sciency talk). So I'm not sure if I could help you there, though if you have any specific question, I'd be happy to try and answer it.
  18. Today we have rollade, chips/potatoes in the oven and some yet-to-be-determined vegetables (presumably I'll have salad, as I don't like most cooked vegetables, without a sauce). According to a translation page, rollade is: collared beef, rolled rost. Except that ours is not beef, it's pork. It's basically pork cooked in the oven, with some herbs.
  19. Awwww I'm so sorry to hear he passed away, he sounds (and looks) like an amazing cat .
  20. Hmm this sounds interesting but you didn't think the book was brilliant, I might buy one of his other novels, first. Any particular one you recommend? Nicely written review, btw .
  21. I've heard good things about this one, so I look forward to hear what you think.
  22. I was feeling a bit down so I spontaneously decided to go to the book fair and do some book shopping! :D

That's a perfect cure for the blues!

  23. I like Top Gear too! Some segments more than others, I especially like the challenges, where funny stuff happens. Unfortunately the Dutch channel that normally shows Top Gear, hasn't broadcast any in the past hmm.. 6+ months (maybe 1 year +). I did see some Top Gear while I was on my holidays in the UK last year, that was great.
