That is one major Road Trip Virginia! :o Safe travels for all those merry miles. :)

Thanks Chrissy. The baby was taken by emergency c-section yesterday. She's stable and tiny being born at 33 weeks gestation. She wasn't due till 3 August.

  2. Hey y'all!

Looks like I'm headed BACK to El Paso, Texas next week. DD was admitted into the hospital the same day I left. Her church and sister have done as much as they can what with her being to ill and her husband being away on a job (he works on turbines throughout the country). My mother wants all five of the kids while she gets better, gives birth, heals and then moves into their new house (all by the end of next month). So, I'm driving out there to pick them up. If I flew them out I'd be able to afford a personal jet. So, I'll drive 1628 miles each way (23 hours) pick them up and head back home where they will stay with us a few days then we'll deliver them to my mom in Virginia.

  3. Thanks Gaia!

Had a lovely two weeks with the dd's and grands, now I'm back home and with my routine. Two weeks is no vacation when you have to worry about transportation, can't stick with your healthy diet and just the overall not having your own time. I was with someone for 14 days straight. Not used to that at all!

  4. Today is a day that I can't wrap my head around. That AWFUL fire at those tower apartments in London and so many souls lost. Then there was the gun attack on Republicans who were preparing for a baseball game and just an hour ago, another shooting at a UPS facility in Northern California, 4 dead, 1 wounded. I can't keep up with it all!

  5. Hey y'all!

Just spending my last day helping dd around the house and hanging out with my grands. Tomorrow afternoon I am headed back home. Can't say I won't be glad to go. I loved being here but its always a strain being a house guest. I want to be back on my own schedule doing my own thing and being in my own quiet space, lol! I also miss my four legged girl, Kizzy.

So, today will be spent repacking, a little housekeeping and hanging out.

Morning, everyone, and happy Friday :)

I hope you have a lovely vacation, Talisman.  How long will you be in TX, Virginia?  I've only been to TX once, when I was very little, and I still have memories of how hot it was.

All is well here, just enjoying being a home-owner and tending to home-y things.  When I'm not working, that is, which seems like a lot because it's our busy time of year.

Its hitting 100 degrees for the rest of my visit (which ends 13 June). This type of heat is different from South Carolina heat. Its dry. Even when I walk for miles, I don't sweat. Not like at home. Not many trees and all this brown landscape just makes me feel like I should be seeing tumble weeds and coyotes!

Spent last night dealing with a sick grand baby. She's been unable to keep her food down since last night. I hate when they are sick and especially now because I had planned to take her, her sister and little cousin to the zoo. She'll have to miss this trip.

As my son in law will be coming home tonight (he is a "sky walker dealing with turbines, etc and it takes him away for weeks at a time) I'll be going to our other daughter's house tonight. I'll stay til Sunday night maybe then come back here for my last two days.

I love my kids and grands but I am so ready to be back home now! This really is no vacation and I'm pretty much immobile as the one vehicle they have has not been properly cared for and I'm not about to be broken down on the side of the road with all these kids, so I can only "move" when my other daughter gets off work and gives me her car.

    I need my freedom, Lol!

  7. Our former director of the FBI is now giving testimony about Trump and his meetings and how he felt the need to keep memos of the conversations. He didn't want to be left alone with him. Who can blame him?

I took the little people to the park today. It was kind of hot so we didn't stay long. I got a great compliment tho! A young man was there with his sister and started a conversation with me. He saw me with all the grands and asked if they were my kids. I told him they were my grandchildren and his jaw dropped. He couldn't believe I was a granny, lol! Made my day! Especially since my oldest granddaughter (aged 4) asked me this morning why my hair was white. Darling, I blame y'all for it being white! I have gray streaks at the front of my head kind of like Morticia from The Adams Family. The only way you can really see it is if I pull my hair off my face. Children need filters, lmbo!!

I saw something about Britbox recently - the Beeb and ITVs shows ? Do you have to pay for them ? :)

I'm up to date with the finales of Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow now, and considering watching Arrow from the start ( I missed the 2nd half of S1 and all of S2, and now that we're coming up on the Sumer lull.... )

It costs $6.99 a month. I was using Acorn TV ($4.99) but dropped it for Britbox as it offers so much more! And it is SO worth it for me!

  9. Hey y'all!

Still hanging out with the dd and grands in El Paso, TX. Its ugly hot here. So far I've taken the boys to see Batman, The Lego Movie and the girls to see Beauty and The Beast. Yesterday I took the boys to the El Paso Zoo and walked around for a few hours, they really enjoyed themselves, as did I! Today will be spent getting their van in some kind of order and maybe going to the library. Not much else planned.

Ah Midsomer Murders, how I love thee. :blush:

Favourite companion ? I`m going for Ben Jones, then Troy. :)

I go between Ben and Troy because they are both just so stinking CUTE in a quirky sort of way! I'm also warming up to the newest Det Sgt He's gung ho! I am glad that they didn't base Troy off of his book character. He was a nasty piece of work!

  11. I'm totally hooked on the British village murders. I just began Midsomer Murders again. I also am anxiously awaiting the latest episodes of Agatha Raisin. I think I'll also begin Murder She Wrote from the beginning. I may finish it by the end of the year as its a very long running serious.

  12. I still do about 2 green smoothies a day although since I'm in Texas and don't have access to all my stuff, I will have to find another way around it. Salads manly. Its really difficult to eat the way I want when I have to leave my main ingredients at home. I had thought about purchasing it while out here but its expensive and I don't want to leave it behind because they don't use the same things.

Having said that, I do plan to experience some authentic Mexican food!

  13. A$$hat Trump has pulled out of the Paris Agreement stating that he was "elected to work for Pittsburgh, not Paris (paraphrasing).  I used to ask if one could get any dumber, but I no longer ask cause I'm scared of the answer. One can get as stupid to infinity and beyond.

  14. Hey y'all!

I'm here in El Paso, Texas visiting dd and grands. I missed them all so much!! Yesterday I took the boys out on a date, Barnes and Noble where I spent too much, Walmart to pick out a birthday present for the oldest grand, then to the movies, home to put on dinner, get the little minions ready for bed and then a couple of hours being kicked by my 4 year old grand daughter who snuck into my bed. Its a KING SIZED BED and YET she found her way to my side and proceeded to kick the heck out of me as if to pay me back for not seeing her for a year!!

Today I"m taking the girls out to explore and do girly things. Then some reading. I'm from the East Coast and the are on Central time so I'm two hours ahead of them. I actually enjoy it as it allows me a few extra quiet hours before they get up and get busy. My reason for coming was to help out dd so I am being the primary caregiver to allow her to recoup and rest.

  15. Sitting here in the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, waiting on my flight to Texas. Totally unplanned. DD (pregnant with #6) was diagnosed with diabetes. At this point they can't tell if its gestational or full on. Her hubby installs wind turbines and the job requires that he travels. Her sugar levels are so off that she's just lethargic and its really hard for her to handle 5 little ones when she can't focus. So, mom to the rescue. I'll be out there for two weeks. At least I can help get the house organized for another move, put the babies back on schedule (cause they sense weakness and attack like little rabbit bunnies the moment she lays down) and of course, do some really fun things with them.

And then I'll have to do it all over again near the end of July early August when she gives birth. After this last trip, I can refocus on my personal goals. I've put some things off because I knew that I'd have to leave and didn't want to stop and start all over again.

Airport food is stupid expensive. I had to break down and purchase something as my flight was at 0530 which meant I needed to be at the airport by 0330 at the latest, which meant I've been up since 0130 because I really couldn't sleep. At least this flight doesn't appear to have any babies/kids on it. I always manage to sit in front of the one who loves to kick the seat!

    Have a great day all!

  16. Hey y'all!

I'm doing my final bit of studying for my state real estate exam tomorrow. Can't wait to be done with it! Afterwards I'm getting a full body message, compliments of my son! Bless him, he got his first paycheck and thought of me! Then I'll do a bit of shopping and head home. I've spent the entire week studying and haven't left home since we got back from church (out of town) on last Sunday!

I recently purchased a new computer. Its a Microsoft Surface Pro with a smart pen. I LOVE this!!!! It's lightweight, travels well, extra fast, converts into a tablet, lots of storage and easy to use. Mine has a red keyboard and I ordered a lovely red case to go with it. I never have to leave home without it again! It is the most expensive computer I've ever owned but it was worth it. Its my graduation gift and my "you completed the real estate course" present. My other one was sent to our daughter in Texas where it is much appreciated and will be put to good use.

  17. Hey y'all!

Sitting here typing on my new laptop. I was looking for a reason to upgrade and came up with the idea to give my current laptop (HP) to our daughter. She homeschools and is in dire need of a reliable computer. So she got mine, which is only about 3 years old and well kept. I purchased the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with the pen. I LOVE IT!!! It can function as a tablet or laptop. Very powerful, tons of storage and an awesome keyboard. I love that I can now take it where ever I would take my tablet.

I've been preparing for my next real estate exam, reading, walking and enjoying the weather. Temps are in the 90's here and very sunny. Almost like summer! I'm also putting out resumes. If I can find work in our old hometown (where we will be moving back at the end of the year) I will stay with one of my sister in laws and hubby will come home on weekeds or I'll come back here.

That about sums it up for us. Life is pretty awesome right now.

I think The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton is set in the late 1800's in America but I've never read it so I'm not sure if it fits your plot description. Sorry if that's useless but thought I'd mention it just in case

I was so excited to think this might be it but sadly, its not, :(. The title is close though and it almost fooled me til I remembered reading this book and seeing the movie. Thanks anyway!

I had a search on goodreads and librarything, but nothing fit the bill. Can you recall anything about the cover ? And would it be shelved under historical romance, family saga ? :)

The cover is of a lady with red hair in a 19th century outfit (kind of like Age of Innocence) with a shack and a mansion in the background, I think. Ugh! So frustrating, like having the name of a song on the tip of one's tongue...lol!

  19. Years ago I came across this book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the title except that it had Innocence in it. It was set in late 1800's and early 1900's America. The protagonist was a very poor young but exceptionally beautiful girl who was put out to service by her aunt. Through luck and fate, she finds herself married to an heir to the household that she serves. It spans a few generations where she is loved and yet neglected, best friend betrays her by having an affair with her husband and her children are ashamed of her and ridicule her.

Can anyone think of the name of this book?
