  1. Here's my big girl Kizzy. Years ago yahoo had a group called "freecycle"  where members gave away EVERYTHING. The one rule was that you couldn't sell. Anyway, this woman was offering up her "American Bull Dog" because she was feeling guilty that the dog had to spend some much time in her kennel. Now I can recognize the more common breed of dog and when I saw the picture I thought it was something different than what I actually saw in person. I had spoke to my hubby and he said I could get her. I met the woman at a local Walmart. When I got there I saw this dog. She was a pitbull. I was generally not a fan of the breed as I had heard and seen so much about them. But she seemed friendly. As I looked her over and listened to this woman talk I began to feel sorry for the dog. I didn't think I'd keep her because of my grands but I couldn't let her go back with that woman. The dog was underweight and flea ridden. The woman said she kept her in the kennel all day. What a sad existence! My original plan was to take her to a no kill shelter but I was late for work and the shelter was closed. I took her home and put her in the backyard. My son and nephew got home and found her in the back there and that was that. I took her to be groomed the next day. They said she was just filthy with dirt and fleas. They estimated she was 15 pounds underweight.

The lying female had said that the dog was fixed and up to date on her shots. Something told me not to believe her so I took her to the vet. They couldn't find evidence of her being fixed so it was safe to assume she hadn't had her shots either. She had told me she got her from a shelter in an adjoining state. The rules are that if the pet isn't a good fit, you are to bring it back, not try to rehome it or sell it.

Anyway, I was able to get her fixed for free because of her breed and she was chipped. I got her vaccinated and she officially became a member of the family. The kids adore her and she adores them cause they sneak her treats! Its a trade off, they get to lay on her and use her as furniture and she gets treas.

Backtrack for moment. I contacted the woman and told her all that I had discovered and that if I found that she was getting rid of dogs in the same condition as MY dog, I'd have the police on her for animal abuse.

My Kizzy is so sweet and loyal. She is also very protective of me. No one is allowed to approach me when she is on her leash. As for her health, she's as healthy as a cow! Being underweight is not her problem. I took her to the vet and she's weighing in at 78 lbs, lol! She's the family favorite and I can't imagine her not being at my side.

She snores horribly and can pass gas that will make you gag but I'll keep her, lol!

  2. Hey y'all!

Just popping in to say, "HEY!" lol! Not much going on here. I saw my client this morning, stopped by the store to pick some things up, home to shower and veg out. Might be the order of the weekend. Well, I do plan to walk around the farmer's market and maybe sit at Starbucks and try to look "artsy!" Then it will be back home to cool off. Temps have been NEARING 100 but the "real feel" is often about 103ish. I've given up walking my Kizzy as its just too much for her. I took her out yesterday after the rain and the poor beast was panting something fierce. It took her most of the afternoon to recoup. I try to get her out in the early mornings but its been really hard to get out and if I can get out its because I have to run an errand. The heat doesn't let up til after the sun goes down. So, her walks will be infrequent til there's a break in the weather.

Our dd and her family are making plans to move the family back to South Carolina by the end of the year. I'm truly truly glad! It worries me that she is 1649 miles from family that she can depend on, a real support group. She's in dire need of it with 6 little ones and her hubby traveling all across the country. I'm looking forward to being able to take them to the beach, the park, library, festivals, et al!!

Guess I'll find something to read, til reads to me!

  3. Welcome to "Trump's Amerikkka."

This is what is going on in the "land of the free and the home of the brave." Cowardly ba$t@rds in hoods and cloaks, carrying tiki tourches amassed on a college campus because they want to take back "their country" and make the south "white again." Some fool rammed his car into anti-protesters killing 1 and injuring 19. The ass in chief has condemned hate on "all parties." It's not ALL parties, its the KKK and the alt-right and the neo-nazis who are causing the hate and they are emboldened because of the ass in chief who refuses to denounce the groups and has ties (his father) to them. This is happening in my state. I hate this.

  4. Hey y'all!

    Congrats to your ganddaughter, muggle!

Gaia, its been years since I've made bread, you have me thinking I might need to try it :)

Tali, has it dried up any?

I can't BELIEVE its almost the middle of August!! Where has the year gone?! Things have moved so fast this summer that I'm playing catch up. Our lease is up at the end of the year and we'll be moving back to our old town. We've been kind of planning what we want to purchase but then had to stop everything to deal with the emergency c-section our dd had. From June til the beginning of this month, I've been to Texas three times. Wow!

After another health scare and her hubby being in New York for training and her being home ALONE with six children 9 and under, they have FINALLY decided to move back to home. They'll be within minutes of us. Her health isn't great and my greatest nightmare is that she'd get sick or pass out with the newborn and the older kids left at home and no one knowing what happened. Her hubby hopes to move them back by the end of September.

The weather has been more "eh" than great. Gray and showery. Because we're moving I put off getting my real estate license because I have to have a broker. It's a real headache and hassle to change brokerage firms once you get one and the licensing agency will only issue the license TO the brokerage firm that hires you. It's just best for me to be where I'm going to sell homes. I don't plan to sell here as we're moving so.....I'll wait. BUT I did sign on to be a companion/caregiver to seniors. I got my first client and started today. I think I'm going to enjoy this. I can get clients when we move and do that while I work on real estate.

That about sums it up for me, have a great one!

  5. Hey y'all!

Poppy, Gaia and MRTR, it's amazing what one can do when one has no choice, lmbo! The cost of flying five little ones is scary and I'm not a fan of it, especially as these airlines seem to have lost their collective minds. It was a challenge and I can say that I did it and now it seems like I can do anything!

Having said that, I can barely stay awake right now,  After unpacking (our bedroom as at the end of the house and hubby wasn't aware that I was home) I put everything away and tidied my house before I felt like I could lay down. By then hubby and doggy realized I was home! I laid down and slept for a few hours, woke talked to hubby, got something to snack on, read some mail, watched a show (all this in the time frame of 2 hours and from bed) then fell back asleep about 4pm. I woke up this morning at 0930 and that was only because ds was banging on the door and set the dog to barking. Now I'm semi up and drinking tea. I really don't foresee much getting done today. That's actually my goal. To do much of nothing. I may take a stroll with my Kizzy later.

I can't BELIEVE how quiet my home is right now. For over a month I've been rooted out of bed as soon as the sun rose to put breakfast on the table, get kids dressed, dispensed medication (allergy an asthma) keeping the house from falling down and keeping the kids from killing each other, lmbo! I do miss it but only for a minute.

    Have a great one!

  6. Hey y'all!

I drove five kids 1649 miles. Alone. We arrived there with no problems, thank God. I had no company but my satellite radio. I just got back from my solo drive to Texas to drop off the grandkids. I got in about 0800 and have already unpacked, cleaned the house (can't leave the guys to do it "my way.") showered and taken a nice nap. I have put my keys up and do not plan to move that truck til maybe Monday. Well, maybe  to get a few supplies in. I did shopping before I left but hubby and the boys have depleted it. Or maybe I'll send one of THEM out to do it, lol!

My grandbaby Sarah is absolutely adorable! She is 7 lbs now, yet she is still so tiny, I look at her and see what she'd actually look like if she were still in the womb. The kids all love their new home and I am now off granny duty!

Right before I let I cracked my BRAND NEW Microsoft Surface Pro laptop screen. It broke my heart AND my wallet. I was able to get it fixed locally but they didn't get it in time for me to take it with me. Had I sent it in to Microsoft, it would have cost $460. I was able to get it fixed for $277 and give business to a small business owner. I'm actually glad it wasn't ready. I would have probably cracked the screen with all the kids around. I did take my Galaxy Note Tab. I have a keyboard for it and would have used it but one of my grandsons bent the charger so it wouldn't charge. These kids are absolutely lethal when it comes to electronics. They've kilt two kindles and destroyed 5 chargers since they've been with us. Ugh!

Now I get to settle back into my routine, whatever that is!

  7. Hey y'all!

Its about to storm here which means I've got 5 little people stuck inside. Not much going on. I've decided to take the kids back to Texas next Wednesday. I'll stay a couple of days and then head back home to my life. Its been fun and I enjoy having them but I really have to get things done as we are moving at the end of the year. I have somehow pushed all the plans to the back and need the motivation to get back on the ball.

  8. Traveled to Virginia last Thursday to visit my mom. I took the little people with me. We had a lovely time family. I got us back home yesterday afternoon. Today will be spent getting back into a routine, some housekeeping, reading and studying. I also need to go grocery shopping.

  9. Detailed my SUV yesterday and I'm really happy with the results. I actually do a better job than the guys at the car wash. I'm very picky and have been known to go behind them and tell them they missed a spot. I also picked up a rooftop cargo carrier for my trip to Texas and cleaned, disinfected my cooler. Everything not essential is packed away. Later today I need to go drop off a ton of library books/video/audio. Tomorrow are dental appointments and I have to go pick up some preemie baby clothes I found for sale and some cowgirl boots I fell in love with!

This week is just about getting appointments out the way and getting my Pathfinder road ready. I plan to get some reading in inbetween.

  10. Hey y'all!

I spent yesterday making lists and re- packing the kids and my suitcases. The first trip to Texas was by plane and I was under packed. The second trip was in and out. This trip I will be there a few weeks and I'm driving so I can take what I need. I also got the budget taken care of, got the bills ready to be paid. I think today I'll detail my truck. Tomorrow I'll get an oil change and by Thursday/Friday we're on the road.

In between the prep the kids have dental and eye appointments, a trip to the zoo and the water park.

Life is about to get REALLY busy!

Morning, all, and happy halfway-to-the-weekend.  It's very warm and humid here as well, and is currently thundering and lightning outside but not raining, curiously enough.  I was at the cabin this weekend and came home yesterday in time for my town's firework display.  I enjoy celebrating the Independence Day holiday, mostly because it's a personal thanks to my ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary, Civil, and World Wars, because without them I might not be here posting on BCF :)

I'm off to the cities tomorrow for an appt and then a trip planning session with my friends.  We are finalizing all of our B&B bookings and car rental, so that's exciting.  I can't believe the trip is less than 2 months away!  We've been planning on this the last year or so.

Hope you all have a great rest of your week and that it cools off!

You're ancestors were able to celebrate. Mine couldn't. Not to mention the fact that even though people of color fought in ALL the wars, we get little recognition and the Americans still begrudge us the shortest month in the year to recognize our contributions, you'll excuse me for not caring about the 4th.

Took the kiddies to a park that has a water feature for them to play in. They are SO cute! They are running between the feature and the kiddie zip line. It's a secluded park and I wouldn't have known about it had a library patron not told me it existed. It's very nice and quiet.

The goal is to tire them out and then take them home, wash them off and watch them nap peacefully!!

  12. Hey y'all!

Quiet and hellish hot here in the U.S. especially in my part. I did manage a 3 mile walk during midday. Not my prime time to walk but since the little people are here, I have to wait til hubby wakes (he works nights) which is around lunch time.

Our country is celebrating the 4th of July but its not a holiday I hold to. Most African Americans who know our history don't get patriotic about it, I mean, why should we when our ancestors were slaves? I will celebrate Juneteenth (June 19) Here is a link for those who are interested.

Because its hellish hot, pools and lakes are packed. We're just staying close to home.

  13. Hey y'all!

Took the two oldest grands to the main street open market. They get a kick out of all the street music, balloon making, dogs, food, etc. Its our special treat that only the big kids can do with grandma. We then made a side trip to Barnes and Noble for a sweet treat and a look around the books. Now I'm back home and can barely keep my eyes open. Not sure what's going on because I got enough sleep but I just feel utterly drained.

I bought a started loom from Hobby Lobby a few days ago and yesterday I broke it in. I had to go through my very small stash of yarn to determine what I wanted to work with. This first piece will be a scarf. Seeing as I'm pretty much confined with the little people for the summer, I may as well be productive. Not to mention it'll keep me sane. It's been raining for the past few days so cabin fever is setting in.

  14. Hey y'all!

I've been pretty busy with the wee folk. Today was storytime at the library. I took the three youngest grands (5, 4 and almost 3) while the two oldest stayed home and did some reading. Tomorrow I take the boys for their yearly checkups and vaccination shots. Later tomorrow I take my Kizzy to the vet to get a vaccination against the dog flu and to pick up her heart warm. The rest of the day/week will be spent doing some much needed shopping. Next week its the dentist and eye doctor and then they will be set.

My days are spent quelling wee wars, meals, entertainment, hiding (yeah, I hide) and baths. This was all so sudden that everything has been thrown into a tizzy. I also have to fit in a trip to Virginia to check on my mom. She had to have a "pic" line put in her arm so she can be given her antibiotics through her vein. She'll have to stay in a rehab facility for a few weeks for that and her knee (where the infection was found but has traveled).  The original plan was that she'd get some of the grands (the little ones) and we'd keep the big boys as there is more to do with them here than there. That will have to be put off for a bit.

My preemie grandbaby "S" is doing well! Even though she was born at 33 weeks, she's off oxygen and the feeding tube and is taking the bottle. Her weight is going up and I think its safe to assume that she'll be home sooner rather than later. Her due date was 3 August and they would normally keep babies in til their birthday but she's doing so well, she should be home in a few weeks!

  15. I didn't want to start another topic since I knew I had mentioned this show again.

I just came across How Clean Is Your House again, on YouTube. I am truly amazed at how nasty and disgusting these homes are and how Kim and Aggie just crawl all over and touch EVERYTHING without gloves! But I do love the houses afterwards and the fact that they don't "remake" the house but bring out its natural CLEAN characteristics using what the owner already has. I have a fascination with British homes because they have so much character, nothing has to match and its real life!

  16. Hey y'all!

    Happy Belated Birthday Tali!

Things have been pretty busy here since the grands came. We've done doctors appt for the girls and the boys are next week. Yesterday I took the boys to one of our libraries for a lego build thingy. Today I took them all to the main branch for story time. They wanted to check out books and I think its safe to assume we walked out with about 30 books. Tomorrow will be a stay at home day. We'll read books and play outside.

All my summer plans are pretty much shot. My mom was going to watch the girls but was taken to the hospital yesterday. Today they decided to operate on her leg because she has some kind of bacterial infection in her knee. I'll go to her on Tuesday to help out and so she can see her great grands.

Safe to assume there will be no working outside the home this summer.

@Virginia I was hot and tired BEFORE I read that, and felt hotter and more tired once I had! Glad that the journeying went well. :)

It's been silly hot here, so I have been doing everything slowly and calmly for the last few days, rather than my usual manic pace. I always get up early, which is lovely in this heat - the birds are singing merrily and the air is cool.

:snowflake: < Here's a snowflake for anyone needing a break from the heat!

LMAO!!! I sometimes sit back and wonder HOW I managed to get it done! It's been a year since I've done the granny/mommy role and thankfully, it never left!

  18. Back home in South Carolina after spending 46 hours in our SUV driving to Texas picking up five grands, checking on dd and newest granddaughter (this makes their 6th!) turning directly around and heading back home. Got in yesterday evening. Washed clothes, cleaned out the SUV, washed carseat and booster seat covers, made doctor's appointments for the girls, fed, bathed and bedded five kids, cleaned up the mess and cleaned my kitchen. Got up this morning and took the girls for their yearly check up and to got them caught up on vaccines. Let me tell you, the four year old is ox strong! And the looks and sound she made...thought I'd have to call in an exorcist! Treated them to a cheeseburger. Ran to Walmart to pick up a few necessities and came home. Hubby is sleeping (had to go directly to work as soon as we got home. I just spent an hour programming the littles' nabi jr (toddler learning tablets) and putting the proper internet passwords into ALL five tablets!

Today is dreary and drizzling so we'll be cooped up inside today. We may venture out tomorrow. Next Tuesday its the boys turns for THEIR physicals!!
