Weave Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Edward totally won me over the first time through, and when I see the start of New Moon and most of Twilight, I love him and Bella. Then Jacob, and reality with him, comes crashing in. Can I also point out, I freaking adore Native Americans - that reeeeeeeeally helps Jake out a LOT. Quote
Weave Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 True, Jake's aversion to the Cullens is intense and I did think long and hard about that particular point as a result. This is the conclusion I came to: Vampires are evil by default - good vampires are the exception to the rule. Werewolves (or at least, these specific shape-shifters as they're not real werewolves) are good by default - they originated as a response to hostility and attacks by vampires. They are self-proclaimed protectors of humans. SO, Jake's blood, as the (super)natural response to the bad blood of demons kinda gives him the right to hate the Cullens. Or at least, to be slower to trust them. The Cullens should actually realise that the werewolves are protectors - I don't know if that applies to all werewolves, but, the Cullens (or Edward at least) admit to knowing the Quileutes are actually shape-shifters, designed to protect. Either way, the Cullens should be proving themselves to the Quileutes, whether they like it or not. Not insulting Jake and in Ed's case practically banning her from seeing Jake when the safest place for her is at La Push. So I'm with Jake on that one too Oh and r.e. the suicide thing: being a vampire is no excuse. If he were human, he'd be put in therapy. None of the others are THAT protective of Bella; (his obsession is largely based on her being a clumsy human). It's not normal. I don't find it at all attractive. I like that Jake allows her to make her own mistakes, but minds her without her ever knowing (when she thought he was ignoring her, he was actually wolfing round her house, and then he takes up double shifts without a word to anyone in Eclipse - Edward would rather lock her in a house.) Jacob and Edward are very different, and as much as I like Edward, I see his flaws and at times, I have thought 'back off dude, she will work it out'. Not all people suicidal tendencies are in therapy and he wouldn't be because let's face it, they would know he is a vampire. It is really hard to define them without Edward and Bella looking like obsessed maniacs! And yet I still love the Edward Quote
Nollaig Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Not all people suicidal tendencies are in therapy and he wouldn't be because let's face it, they would know he is a vampire. Not at all, but you have to conceed it's not actually normal to want to kill yourself over another person? That has to be one of the rarest reasons on the list - hence Romeo and Juliet being considered a classic love story I'd imagine My only point is, he get away with psychotic behaviour because he's a vampire, when that's not really a good excuse anyway. I love Edward too, though, he's quite likeable when he's not being melodramatic and I like that he's flawed moreso than the others (other than Jasper, who obviously has his hunger issue ) Quote

Edward is flawed, he is such an old soul but an intense one, he needs to chill out a bit and Jasper, well he is just Jasper, the boy has needs Quote

Yeah but then it's not what Edward is doing. It's what people do. Edward wouldn't be doing it for any reason outside of Bella - it's nothing to do with himself per se. I wish Jasper got more screen time. He's gooooorgeous. I think I'm like the only person who thinks his wig is awesome Quote

Kell Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Edward? Mature?Edward is a whiny emo! The boy is so self-indulgent and childish it's sickening! Jacob is mature - he deals with his issues in a couple of weeks and moves on to minding Bella! I'm totally with Nolly on this one - Emo Ed and his winsome whining - LOL! GImme hot-blooded Jake any day of the week! Quote

It was really cool and a nice touch . That whole part after was funny too in Emily's cabin. Hearing Damage is excellent! I thought it suited that scene as well and made me love the song even more. Nollaig Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Oh I keep meaning to ask - when Edward arrives at school at the start of the movie.... why isn't he driving his silver Volvo? Quote
Weave Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Oh I keep meaning to ask - when Edward arrives at school at the start of the movie.... why isn't he driving his silver Volvo? Because volvo stopped making that particular model in silver Quote
Nollaig Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 It's a totally different car though - why didn't they just borrow one? I'm sure there's plenty in the world, or at least they could have used something silver that vaguely resembled it Quote
