SueK Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I fell in love with the (Sshhh *whispers* mcdonalds) advert that used the song "Busy Doing Nothing" from the film 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court', and subsequently bought the film, and the book by Mark Twain. The book looks great and I look forward to reading it. I loved that film Chrissy. It's such a lovely story. I'm really getting into Rebecca again. It's just wonderful to completely forget all around you when reading it. Susan Hill and Sally Beaumont have both written sequels (Mrs De Winter and Rebecca's story), anyone have any thoughts on them and what is the better of the two?
frankie Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I have read a few by Chomsky both later and earlier works. The most popular recent book by him would be Hegemony or Survival? America's quest for dominance. The title explains it all. Very easy to read and very inlightening. Also Interventions is another good one. Manufactuering Consent is also another good one. Oh I could be here all day.I absolutely love Chomsky. If you read the book and want more of that sort of book please let me know and I can give you other authors in the same vain and influenced by Chomsky and other books relating to the subjects that he covers. 134 pages into Dead to the World, and the page I am on is very Interesting but before that I will be honest I was getting a little bored and could not seem to get my concentration Catwoman, you certainly seem to love Chomsky I'll look those books up sometime, probably after reading Media Control. They do sound really interesting don't they? The only thing that I'm a bit nervous about is whether they are too complicated for me to read, I tend to be a bit lazy sometimes and cannot concentrate hard enough. That's the main reason I chose Media Control for my first Chomsky, it's short and seemed easy enough By the way, would you believe my luck, I just got a notice that the Faithless book I reserved from the library yesterday (!!) has arrived and I can get it today! I'm happy! Too bad you didn't enjoy Dead to the World in the beginning, I hope it picks up for you after that very Interesting page

I sometimes loose concentration and loose the plot but with his books I generally don't. That is awesome about Faithless!!!! Yeah I do find sometimes with the Sookie books they are Ok but don't grab me for a while
Stephanie2008 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I finished Tempted by PC and Krisin Cast (and really want to read the next one NOW ) and started The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
catwoman Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 170 pages into Dead to the world. I can't seem to get into it, and I just want to finish it so i can move on to my mext book as I have three to read by Monday. Another Sookie and Dexter by design.
lexiepiper Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I finished Tempted by PC and Krisin Cast (and really want to read the next one NOW ) and started The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks Did you enjoy it? I found it to be a bit repetitive and disappointing :/ Finished Tempted last night, and will be starting The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle today, which I'm really looking forward to
Stephanie2008 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Did you enjoy it? I found it to be a bit repetitive and disappointing :/ Finished Tempted last night, and will be starting The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle today, which I'm really looking forward to I did enjoy it but it seemed to drag on a bit. There was too much conversation for me, they were discussing things without anything actually happening til the last few chapters. I did enjoy it though and can't wait to read the next one because it kind of ended weird
Peacefield Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Since I was up way too early this morning and not able to sleep, I read a bit of Stolen. I think I'm almost to page 200 so about halfway there I think. It's got me anxious though and I want to know what Clay and Jeremy are up to while Elena's in the spot she's in!
Nollaig Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Finished So What If I'm Broken by Anna McPartlin. 328 pages in three sittings in less than 16 hours. Hello mojo, welcome back.
Lucybird Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Have about 100 pages of The Cure for Death by Lightening left, it took a while to get going but I'm really enjoying it now.
Weave Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Still reading 'The Wind Up Bird Chronicle' by Haruki Murakami, my reading mojo is lacking at the moment, I am dreaming about central heating
catwoman Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I have exactly 100 pages eft and I am sooooo bored of my book I just want to finish it and I don't care what happens.
busy91 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Reading "A Treasury of Christmas Miracles" by Karen Kingsbury, but I read that at home, because it tends to make me cry. Also reading "Skipping Christmas" by Grisham, that book I read on the subway. Listening to "The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Almost done with the first 7 hours, it is narrated pretty well.
Charm Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I have exactly 100 pages eft and I am sooooo bored of my book I just want to finish it and I don't care what happens. Aw that sucks Maybe you should just leave it and move on, no point in wasting good reading time on a book you're so not enjoying Mind you I hate doing that
Peacefield Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Listening to "The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Almost done with the first 7 hours, it is narrated pretty well. Loved this one, Busy! Excellent book IMO . Ditto to what Charm said, Catwoman. I hate leaving something too, but maybe it'd be for the best? Still loving Stolen! Now I have The Lost Symbol over there on my shelf calling to me and am really anxious to start it. Think I can handle reading 2 books at once?!

I have finshed it and I loved the last page - It was the end! I can't believe I hated a Sookie Novel that much! Will write my review tomorrow. Going to start Dexter by Design tomorrow.
Charm Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Still loving Stolen! So pleased at this and I can tell you that the next in the series 'Dime Store Magic' features the character Paige Winterbourne, which I think you might enjoy! Good news is my mojo returned for a spell today, I managed to read about 100 pages and should probably finish 'Odd Thomas' tomorrow sometime
Peacefield Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Excellent, Charm! I like what I've seen of Paige so far in Stolen, so I'm happy to see she comes back in the next book. Thanks for reminding me of what the next title is too! I believe I may have to look for it this weekend . Glad to hear your mojo made an appearance . How are you finding 'Odd Thomas?'
Charm Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Glad to hear your mojo made an appearance . How are you finding 'Odd Thomas?' thank you It took me a while to get into 'Odd Thomas', but if think about it, I can only summise that it was due to my lack of mojo. Other than that, it's quite enjoyable
Nollaig Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) I decided to leave The Dante Club for now, as it's not getting my full attention and I'd rather give it a proper go another time when my mojo is at full functionality, rather than spoiling the book now. Instead, I completely randomly decided to read Girl With A Pearl Earring, and I only meant to read 20 or so pages to see what I thought, but I'm already 212 pages in and loving it. I adore Chevalier's writing style. I've seen her other books in the charity shop where I got this one - I'll be buying them all a.s.a.p. Only50 pages to go, but it's 7am Edited November 7, 2009 by Nollaig
Kylie Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I blitzed through The Phantom Tollbooth this morning and loved every page. What a beautiful book! It's now one of my favourites. I laid out my next 6 potential reads and rolled a dice to see what I'd be reading next. I rolled a 6 which means I'll be reading The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers. I can't wait to get stuck into it!

Kylie Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 It was actually my partner's idea. I was explaining my dilemma in trying to pick my next book and he suggested the dice. I was going to take it a step further and role one of those 26-sided Scattergories dice and then pick an author with a surname starting with that letter, but apparently I gave the game away so I had to use a regular ol' dice.
