Ceinwenn
Since there seems to be a fair few of us who have become fans of Darling Dexter (the book version), I thought maybe we should have a thread dedicated purely to Dexter, where we can all share our devotion to the darkly demented delight! frankie
How delightful! The ever so Dreamy Dexter certainly deserves our devotion <

Ceinwenn
Wow, that's 6 d's in a row... That's many! Ceinwenn, which Dexters have you already read? Thanks! My Thesaurus worked hard on that sentence! I've only read Darkly Dreaming Dexter & Dearly Devoted Dexter - I'm planning on buying Dexter in the Dark & Dexter by Design on payday next friday. frankie
Thanks! My Thesaurus worked hard on that sentence! I've only read Darkly Dreaming Dexter & Dearly Devoted Dexter - I'm planning on buying Dexter in the Dark & Dexter by Design on payday next friday. I've only read those two as well, but I'm expecting to get the latest two books in the mail next week I'm thinking I'll want to reread the first two before continuing with D in the Dark because it's been almost two years since I read Darkly Dreaming Dexter, I don't remember much about it. Charm
Wow I just saw this thread! Great idea Ceinwenn ... a little homage to our deliriously dazzling, but totally demented Dexter . Isn't he just wonderful! I so can't wait to get the next two in the series!
frankie
I guess it won't be long till we all have those final two books. It's really weird, I've never known a person (and in this case there's even two people!) who's waiting for the same to books to arrive and who's probably going to read them at just about the same time as I am. Unreal!
Charm
Unfortunately it might be a few weeks before I get him ..... sorry I mean them (or do I ) cause we're moving within the next fortnight! I might be a wee tad busy But I will get them!!!
frankie
I guess moving is an acceptable reason (ahemexcuseahem) to postponing the purchase. Just be careful to place the books in a special place where you will easily find them and where nobody can go touching them.

Oh don't you worry about that. The last time I moved I lost a whole box of books! :motz:Ain't gonna happen again

That seriously sucks :( Maybe you could write CHARM'S BOOKS on the boxes so everyone'll make sure which boxes are the no 1 priority.
frankie
I've finally got Dexter by Design and Dearly Devoted Dexter (which I've already read) so now I've got the whole series. I think I'm going to reread the first two before getting into D in the Dark and D by Design. However, I won't be starting this project until next week at the earliest, I'm staying at my BF's at the moment and don't have the books with me. Really excited though
Ceinwenn
Oh Frankie, I'm so jealous! I asked my OH if he thought we could stretch to me buying a couple of books this weekend & he said sure, especially as he's off out with friends this weekend - again! frankie
Dexter books are such an important investment that one shouldn't really consider the cost. And you'll enjoy them for life so I think your OH was right to agree with your buying the new Dexter books. I hope you get them soon
Mac
What is Dexter books? (Thank you Mighty Boosh)
frankie
Don't you know Jeff Lindsay's books of Dexter the serial killer who also works as a blood spatter specialist (or what's the term, I'm writing in a hurry) in Miami PD. Dexter the TV-series is based on these books. Amazing books, amazing TV-series!! Highly recommended!
Mac
I shall give them a go! Thank you. Who are they by?
frankie
The author is Jeff Lindsay (pen name for a dude whose real name is Jeffry P. Freundlich) and so far he has written Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, Dexter in the Dark and Dexter by Design and you should read them in this order I hope you enjoy them and come back here to show your devotion for dear darling Dexter
Mia
I haven't read the books but I've just finished watching the second series of Dexter on TV - excellent! Felt sorry for Doakes though...
Ceinwenn
From what I understand the tv series & the books are completely different - the story-lines in the tv show are not based on the books (good thing, since he's only written 4 books, lol). I have yet to see the tv show & I think that I probably shall avoid it. I just have this feeling that it'll be like "Bones" - nothing like the books. (which annoys me!) Mia
Really? That completely surprised me! Once I knew there were books, I thought series 1 was based on the first book, series 2 on the second etc etc... Both series were very good, but as I haven't read the books I can't really compare them!
frankie
I haven't read the books but I've just finished watching the second series of Dexter on TV - excellent! Felt sorry for Doakes though... Me too! I sure like Dexter and didn't want him to get caught, but I really didn't want Doakes to die either, I think he was a standup guy. He had a heart full of gold inside that tough exterior. He was kinda hot... Like Ceinwenn said, the books are totally different from the series which is a good thing - because I like both the books and the series, it would be very difficult to choose whether to read the book first or watch the show. This way I get so many different stories to Dexter
Ceinwenn
Season 1 is based on the 1st book but all of the others are completely independent.
