Smint Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Midnight Express by Billy Hayes - the only book I've stayed up all night to finish (but I was a student then and could cope with the sleep deprivation) Quote
wordsgood Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Yes, many times if it's just a small novel of a couple hundred or less pages. I have a tendency to get lost in reading and have hours go by without realizing I've been at for 4 or 5 hours straight! Quote
KW Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Yes: Fighting Reuben Wolfe by Markus Zusak... Quote
~Andrea~ Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Animal Farm is the only one I can remember (more of a novella really) but I;m sure there must be others. Quote
Witt Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Most of the fiction books I read are in one sitting Quote
grabit Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 most slimmer books i can read in a few hours, say 300-400 pages.. so yes, i've read lots of books this way.. i am lucky i do not work any more, so if a book grabs me, i will just read till i'm done... Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I can read books in one day if I have nothing to do or if I'm alone. I struggle to read when there's a lot of noise around me (unless the book is really good). But I can read 400-500 pages in a day. Quote
The Library Nook Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I used to do that a lot although I don't manage it as much anymore. My record has been three 350-400 pages novels in one day, goodness knows how. Quote
lopeanha Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I've read some books in one day but not in one sitting. I get unpatient or hungry or the dogs need a walk or whatever. No wait, I've read Roddy Doyle - The Giggler Treatment in one sitting, outloud to my bigger sister Quote
Kate Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Today I read "Nice Girls Don't Change the World" by Lynne Hybels in one sitting Quote
BookBee8 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I usually read books that I have been waiting for in one-two sittings. I read Double Cross by Malorie Blackman just over a month ago in one sitting, I literally couldn't put it down! I don't think I read the Harry Potter's in one sitting - but I did read them very quickly. Quote
knitnat Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I used to devour books in days. Not any more though! However, I am sure that one day I will be able to read uninterrupted! Quote
Chimera Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I cant remember wether I've read books in one sitting... But I have read a lot of them very quickly, in a day or so, stopping only for food *laughs* I do that when a book is really gripping (and I have the time...) but I usually regret it afterwards. It feels like I've rushed to story too much instead of enjoying it. Quote
anisia Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; actually skipped class that day just so I could read it Quote
Echo Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I've read a few Harry Potter books in one sitting, and also some of the books in John Sandford's Prey series. Quote
kay_loves_purple Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I read plenty of books in one sitting, especially when I was in high school and used to spend half the night reading. Unfortunately I cannot remember the titles I can remember the latest such stint, a few months ago, with Twilight. Having no idea what to expect I have begun reading the book at about 10 pm as I was getting ready for sleep. To my surprise I couldn't put it down so I finished it at about 3 or 4 in the morning (don't ask me how I felt later at work ) I've spent nights (since working) up until about 3 a.m. reading for only one other book, that I found fabulous and that I truly recommend (Phantom by Susan Kay) -- I have tried really hard to finish it in one sitting but it was too long so it took me about two or three nights Those were times... Quote
Chrissy Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Astonishing the Gods - Ben Okri. Stunning book, I was transported through the read! A number of the Harry Potter books - JKR (earlier rather than later ones). Chariot Of The Gods - Erich Von Daniken As time has passed I have not been able to dedicate myself to the all-in-one read in the same way. I still have the inclination though. Quote
lexiepiper Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I truly recommend (Phantom by Susan Kay) I picked up a really shabby copy of this book about 5 years ago in a charity shop and loved it also. I've been trying to find a better copy, but not many places seem to sell it. Quote
Nollaig Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I haven't read books in one sitting since I was younger - I used to get three library books and return them two days later. These days if I find myself ploughing through a book, I try to take a break to draw it out. Quote
rach.at.the.disco Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I read Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella in one sitting the other week. I had a day off uni so I thought I'd relax and read for a bit - and ended up reading the whole book within the day Quote
baggiesfan Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 i read delores claibourne by stephen king in one sitting it was only 180 pages Quote
SueK Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in one sitting. Years ago I read "The French Connection" in one sitting - started it around mid morning and finished at 4 am the following morning. What was I thinking!! (This, I hasten to add, was in my yooof when I was able to handle it - I need my sleep now though;)). Quote
crotalus_p Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I've been trying to find a better copy, but not many places seem to sell it. Amazon has it but it is about 24 pounds for the paper back I have done it once or twice mainly with 2-300 page books Quote
BookBee8 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I think I read Double Cross by Malorie Blackman (Fourth in the Noughts and Crosses series) in one sitting. I started it at about 8pm ish and literally stayed up all night reading it. I read the Harry Potters and the Twilight books almost in one sitting too. I think I tend to read them quicker if the book is highly anticipated or part of a series Quote
Karen1 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I've read a couple of the Harry Potter books in one day before, but not necessarily in one sitting. I have to take food breaks and I usually end up popping online every now and again just for a wee breather too. It's been a while since I read a book in one sitting without any kind of break. Quote
