The time has come when my failing hearing has made me go for an audio check. I may need hearing aids, the decision is pemding; many years in a noisy work environment, with no ear defenders (they were not thought of back then!) and many years playing in noisy rock and roll bands have taken their toll. Que sera!

I have been wearing hearing aids for 9 years now. They made a huge difference in my hearing ability, and I strongly recommend them to anyone with a hearing problem.

I've recently started wearing them even though the specialist said they weren't "strictly necessary", I'm not quite sure what volume he expected me to turn the TV up to before they did become essential.

I was told by someone who has worn them for years that you should start wearing them before the hearing loss becomes too bad as there's evidence to suggest that if you go for too long without being able to hear certain sounds you'll never regain the ability.

The strawberries really are delicious.

Growing them in a hanging basket sounds like a good idea.

I don' know what variety these strawberries are as my neighbor has been getting them for me since I am not allowed to drive "YET".

Went to the eye specialist today and am glad I have her as my doctor. Good news, the injection itself did not hurt but my eye was sore afterwards and still is a little. Better news, the Macular Degeneration is now not as bad as in my first examination and she has now said that my next shot can be 8 weeks from now instead of 4.

Fantastic news, Muggle! 🥰 So pleased the macular degeneration has improved, the injection isn't too painful and you have longer before the next one ( I bet it's due to all those strawberries 😉)

I was somewhat bemused to see in the supermarket the other day tomato soup on sale (Heinz) which was labelled "plant based".  Well if a tomato isn't a plant......from what I've heard a lot of plant based products have loads of additives, so would love to know what the difference is, does that mean that the dear old favourite original Heinz tomato soup isn't actually from a plant?!

As I understand it plant based is the new 21st century way of saying a product is Vegetarian. Heinz are saying that their Cream of Tomato soup has Heinz

No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives

Suitable for Vegetarians

1 of your 5 a day, low in sugar and low in fat

Yes but I thought the original tomato soup had all that, maybe this one has a bit more and is presumably more expensive!  I'll try to have a look next time I buy some and see if I can see the difference.

The old Heinz tomato soup does actually have cream in it, so I guess the plant-based one will substitute the cream for something else - making it suitable for vegans as well as vegetarians.

[Ok, as I was writing this I got curious and looked it up - the plant-based one uses fermented soy instead of cream!]

That tomato soup doesn't sound good to me either. I like the Progresso Basil tomato soup and also the Campbells tomato soup. Sometimes I mix them.

Today I got another gallon of strawberries, 3rd one so far. The guy at the strawberry farm told me that they will still have strawberries through the month of May and maybe into June.

That is wonderful news @muggle not

May I add that your latest strawberry photos made me utter loudly "Yowzer" :D

On the matter of Heinz Tomato Soup, it is my husband's favourite so I will have to surreptitiously try out the new vegan one, just in case the Cream Of one is phased out. This will give me a chance to break the news to him gently. :)

I'm not sure I like the sound of fermented soy so please let us know what it's like if you do try it

I looked that up on the internet and I stopped reading the page. I'm vegetariann and I'll take the double cream any day!

*interestingly, (or not!) my father is allergic to both cream, and soya so only home-made tomato soup for him - and everybody else who is so afflicted.*

  • 1 month later...

Picked blackberries and blueberries Wednesday morning. Picked a gallon of blackberries and only a quart of blueberries. The blueberries are just now coming into season. Eating the blueberries on my cereal every morning and eat the blackberries  as a snack. Will make a blackberry pie this weekend. They are absolutely delicious.

Oh my, muggle not! That photo has made my mouth water. There is a 3-D effect on the pic that makes them look pinchable.

I insist on seeing photographic proof of the pie when it is made, just to stoke my envy. 😄

Wow Muggle, what luscious looking blackberries and pie looks amazing!🥧 🥰 Is it blackberry and apple or pure blackberry?

Hubby is requesting a rhubarb pie, I'm trying to talk him into having apple with it, but he's standing firm 😁

"My" pie is all blackberry. 😊

I enjoy rhubarb, but I like to eat it raw with a little salt on it.

My Granddaughter and my Great Granddaughter attended the Taylor Swift Concert in Pittsburgh Saturday Night. They had a blast. It was a special treat for my Great Granddaughter as she has had a tough year. The Taylor Swift Concert broke the attendance record at Acrisure Stadium. The previous record was held by Garth Brooks.
