bagel queen
I do! When I read Peter Robinsons first book I went out and got all of his books! The same with Ruth Rendell Martina Cole Lesely Pearce, then I went to the other extreme and read all (up to now) of John Grisham and Jeffrey Archer!Ooh and lots more Authors! jodie Picoult is my mission at present! I have found that as I have got older my tastes have changed: For instance, as a young girl I loved Enid Blytons Famous five then the Narnia collection. In my twenties I loved Danielle Steele and Catherine Cookson. In my thirties it was Jackie Collins and now in my forties I am continually searching for something to read that will have me yearning for more! I seem to go back to my old Authors when they bring a new book out and once I have finished reading it feel deflated and it is like coming to the end of a love affair lol! I also read non fiction..but thats another story! Thank you for reading me...Bagel
The Library Nook
I do yes! Many authors in the past I have had to focus on books by them, particularly when I was younger so you are not alone:)
Janet
I do too! Sometimes, even when I've grown out of a genre, I still have to buy books by certain authors - for instance, Judy Astley, Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinsella. I don't read 'chick lit' any longer but I still have to buy theirs!

Kylie
That definitely happened when I read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice for the first time. I was hooked and then wanted to get my hands on anything and everything by her.
Kell
Not obsessed, as such, but there are certain authors whose books I buy when they come out, so that I keep up to date with the full series: Terry Pratchett Kelley Armstrong Simon Scarrow Christopher Brookmyre Stuart MacBride I don't always read them straight away these days (due to the amount of reading challenges in which I'm taking part), but I do anxiously await their publication and look forward to reading them as soon as I can after acquiring them! happyanddandy
Yes I have been known to covet a new author. I wait longingly for Anne Tyler books. I was so sad when Carol Shields died as there wont be any more of hers to be published . I have a large collection of Monica Dickens books, Fay Weldon books. I would always read Joanna Trollope as soon as she publishes and the most recent author I have to wait for is Jennifer Haigh who wrote 'Mrs Kimble' and 'Baker Towers'. Angel
I'm afraid I've been guilty as charged since I was a small child. I collected all of Enid Blyton. Now it is:-- Phili[[a Gregory CJ Sansom Jean Plaidy Jodi Picoult Jane Austen Thomas Hardy (the novels) Jeanne Kalogridis.......................................etc etc Just 2 authors have to be bought on day of publication - CJ Sansom. (Next one due out this year) and Philippa Gregory. This is non negotiable !!!
Echo
I did the same thing with John Sandford, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the collaborative books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. When I react strongly to an author, I want to know everything about them and read everything they've ever written.
Icecream
Yes! In the past i have read a few Grisham's, but i got bored with them. I also had a few as a child such as Enid Blyton. More recently I have been busy trying knew things with my reading, but I have come to know authors that I want to do this with. I want all Tolkien's books. I love J.K Rowling, and also want to get the rest of Raven Hart's books.
aromaannie
I bought all of Jeff Abott's book after reading Panic. I was slightly disapointed as they weren't quite as fast paced as Panic. Now if I read an author for the first time which I really enjoy then Im buy their first book and if it holds up to my expectactions then I work my way through their back catalogue. I always buy every new book released by the following authors Karin Slaughter James Patterson Harlan Coben Lisa Gardner

Oblomov
Not nowadays, but back in the late 60s & early 70s I was obsessed by James Hadley Chase's books. Now I go by a gut feeling, but there are some preferred authors like Thomas Harris & Robert Harris.
Mia
Yes! It's great when you discover a "new" (to you) author and discover they have a huge back catalogue to buy up! I always buy books from: Terry Pratchett Stephen King Dean Koontz James Patterson J K Rowling (well, used to) Eoin Colfer But only in paperback! Guest fireball
Angel. Interesting thread title Do you get obsessed with the Author?..... It's a bit hard to answer without thinking that maybe unintentionally, maybe JUST one MIGHT be, God help us obsessed whether one like it or not. For record, of sorts, here's the Authors I follow. : Steve Berry. http://www.steveberry.org/ Michael Slade. http://www.specialx.net/ A.J. Hartley. http://www.ajhartley.net/ Elizabeth George. http://www.elizabethgeorgeonline.com/ Stephen Booth. http://www.stephen-booth.com/ Michael Jecks. http://www.michaeljecks.co.uk/ James McGee. CJ Sansom. James Hebert. http://www.jamesherbert.org/ Robert McCammon.http:// http://www.robertmccammon.com/ There the ones I can think of at the moment, I might have left one or two out, (I think) but that's enough to be going on with. Angel
Angerball - are you saying that I get obsessed with an author. ehmmmm?? These are only the ones that I have thought of . I won't mention the ones by Joanne Harris, P.D. James, Ruth Rendall, Peter Ellis (Cadfael series) and Colin Dexter (Inspector Morse) I've recently discovered Michael Jecks via the library and reading the blurb on one of his books that a patient was reading. (I have to check on a patient's welfare by what they are reading!!!) When I was younger I used to collect all of the James Herbert books. Now I borrow them from the library and from Mum. I also had all the John Saul books. Who knows what authors I may discover this year
bagel queen
I dont think I have tried Karin Slaughter....I will look her up...thanks
amthysteyes2
Yes. Sometimes they can be a real disappointment (the other Phillip Pullman series/ Celia Rees's other books) but sometimes they can live right up to their predecessors (Terry Pratchett/ Jhosten Gaarner- when the headache goes away, that is)
angerball
Angerball - are you saying that I get obsessed with an author. ehmmmm?? Wha? I think you mean Fireball; I haven't posted on this thread yet. I wouldn't say I get obsessed with an author; I like to read up on them if they interest me, and buy a lot of their books, but that's about it.
