Raven Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Quick late night post, but would anyone be interested this?
timebug Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Always open to a discussion on the book(s) if anyone else is?
Brian. Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Having recently finished The Hobbit I would be up for a group read of this.
Hayley Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 I would. I've only read / listened to them as audiobooks before.
Madeleine Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 It's a while since I've read them, but would be happy to see what everyone says and hopefully join in!

Raven Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 So how do we do this? Not done one of these before!
Brian. Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I’d suggest setting a reading target and a deadline (eg 3 chapters in a week) and then we can discuss the chapters read before moving on to the next set point. I’ve not done one of these before though so I’m happy for others to suggest something different.

Raven Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 Apologies for the lack of a reply on this; things have been a little hectic over the last few weeks... 62 chapters ate three a week would mean this will take 21 weeks to get through - would that be quick enough? On the other hand, would 5 chapters a week be too much?

Virginia Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Just saw this. is it still on? Is it too late? I'd love to do the group read!

Not too late at all, it hasn’t started yet . On 29/11/2021 at 10:36 PM, Raven said: So how do we do this? Not done one of these before! Did you have a start date in mind?
Brian. Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Can I put forward a suggested start date of 8th Jan (Saturday) or 10th Jan (Monday) with a target of 5 chapters a week?
Raven Posted January 2, 2022 Author Posted January 2, 2022 Sorry, been a bit rubbish at organising this! Saturday 8th is okay with me.
Raven Posted January 4, 2022 Author Posted January 4, 2022 The thread for this group read can be found here: J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings - Group Reads - Book Club Forum
Raven Posted January 5, 2022 Author Posted January 5, 2022 I locked this last night, but then realised there was nowhere for people to ask questions, so I have unlocked this again in case anyone has some!
Raven Posted January 9, 2022 Author Posted January 9, 2022 Hope you've all started! Tick-tock! So who is taking part? Sound off below!
Brian. Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 I’m in. For some reason I thought LOTR was one book and not a trilogy of books so I was a little surprised when I discovered my Kindle copy is over 1000 pages long. I’m really looking forward to starting the actual reading later this afternoon.
Madeleine Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 I think I read that it was originally intended to be one book, but the publisher made him split it into smaller parts! The editions I've got actually show each book as being in 2 parts, so it's actually a six parter, rather than a trilogy.

(I was going to borrow the series from my sister but decided I’d like to have one of my own). It should be here by tomorrow . 4 hours ago, Madeleine said: the publisher made him split it into smaller parts! It was a good decision
