Raven Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Has anyone watched the Fox/Canal+ version of War of the Worlds? I came across it on Disney+ last night, and ended up watching the first four episodes. This is a joint US/French production with half of the story set in France and the other half in London. So far the adaptation has very little in common with the book, or other adaptations, but I've found it entertaining enough so far (it's kind of an odd mix between a Scandinavian crime drama and the reboot of Battlestar Galactica (the parts set on occupied Caprica). Will probably burn through the final four episodes this weekend, and have just read that series 2 will also be on Disney+ mid-July. Quote
KEV67 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 I don't think any of the TV or film adaptions are very faithful to the book. Quote
timebug Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 Watched both series, and found a sneaking regard for it. Okay, it is NOT the book, by any means, but a free-form jazz riff on the basic story, if you like! And i loved the ending which most critics online didn't! Quote
poppy Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 Anything's got to be better than the film starring Tom Cruise 🙄 My Dad played the original radio broadcast to me and described the ensuing panic when I was young. The story really captured my imagination. Loved Jeff Wayne's musical version. Quote
Raven Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 Disney+ keeps reminding me that I should watch the second series, but I keep ignoring it! I will probably watch it at some point... Quote
