  1. Ooh, I haven`t seen a coffee one. Now I feel like I`m missing out on those great Polish flavours.
  2. Hurray ! I have a long-running obsession with the American 30`s/40`s cosy mysteries - Richard and Frances Lockridge, Frances Crane, Stuart Palmer, Torrey Chanslor...:)
  3. Hopefully Obsidio and Zondagskind will help with your reading slump. Try to have some relaxing Doggie Time and fingers crossed this is just a minor blip.
  4. I`m a recent convert to the raspberry magnum - Raspberry ice cream on a stick, covered in raspberry coulis and dark chocolate.
  5. Free atm - Laura Durham`s Better Off Wed - it says the book won an Agatha Award for best first novel, so might be worth a go. Also free atm for US Kindle.
  6. The article on the autism voice looks good ( and thoughtful ) ; I`ve saved it to take a looksie later.
  7. Thank you ! The Tolstoy book`s a lovely used copy, too. I was thinking of waiting till all my books arrived before posting a pic, but then realised that there will always be new books arriving...
  8. Oh, your poor Mum. I hope there`s something which can help her.
  9. Maybe read an excerpt and see how you like it ? The books have a retired Edwardian governess who sets herself up as an investigator, and ( usually ) have a woman in her 20s who gets drawn into a mystery and a romance. They're a nice read, though I wouldn't put them in the same class as authors like Margery Allingham or Ngaio Marsh. I do enjoy them enough to want to eventually read all of them though.
  10. Patricia Wentworth Lots of the Miss Silver mystery books are available for 99p - I`ve just taken 6 of them. I`ve read maybe 15 of them previously ; they`re Golden Age mysteries, a bit like a 1930`s Mary Stewart. Goodreads
  11. Thank you ! I`ve managed to get vastly behind with reviews already.
  12. Aw, your new pic is so cute ! :)

Sent you one in messenger :)

  13. Fool`s Assassin is this month`s freebie with a Times subscription. I`ve seen my Round Robin books from a distance, and still need to locate another couple of them.
  14. It might be my best bookish happening ever.
  15. I ordered a used book from the US and got sent the wrong one ; the bookseller refunded the money and let me keep the `wrong` book ( it`s an omnibus from around 1950; one of the books is from a series by Charlotte Murray Russell, from which I`ve read - and enjoyed - two books. Another of the books is from one of my Dad`s favourite authors. ) I`d also emailed a small US publisher a couple of weeks ago ; I`m a huge fan of Frances Crane`s cosy mysteries from the 1940`s onwards ( she was originally a journalist who was kicked out of Nazi Germany for being vocal about anti-semitism ; her books reflect her anti-racism views ) - I saw that the books were getting republished for Kindle in the US, and asked if they might become available in the UK. The publisher got back to me and said unfortunately, he had no plans to Kindle publish in the UK, but he - very, very kindly - sent me the 11 kindle books for free ! Would I get a Naughty Point for giving the publisher a plug ? The books are available for US Kindle from $1.99 - $3.99, and are well worth the money, imo.
  16. Coffin, Scarecely used - Colin Watson is 99p atm ; it`s a series I`ve wanted to try for a while.
  17. Thank you. I`m thankful - it could`ve been so much worse.
  18. Ooh, that doesn`t sound good. Has you Mom seen a vestibular physiotherapist ? I saw one a few years ago, and found it really helpful.
  19. Hurray for your childhood book being as good as you remembered. Off to look at the cat anime.
  20. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the good wishes. Hope everyone has a good week.
