  1. Finally finished The Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse, a Goodreads giveaway book. It was ok, but not great. Onto hopefully greater things with Fellside by M.R. Carey, author of The Girl with all the Gifts.
  2. It's a strange thing to wake up not knowing who you are. Fellside - M.R. Carey
  3. Hope you enjoy it, one of my favourite reads, I got The People of the Book this week by the same author this week which I am looking forward to.
  4. My daughter and I have been binge watching Grey's Anatomy for a few months now and are up to season 9, it is unbelievable at times but we still love it, watching it without many breaks we have got quite attached to the characters, shame they keep killing them off!
  5. This one doesn't get amazing reviews so maybe not the best one to choose, but it was cheap!
  6. I'm eager to hear how you like Sister...I nearly bought The Loney today but decided against it as have bought far too many new books this week. That said, I had £15 of birthday money left so thought I would see what I could find in the charity shops in town! Not a bad haul I thought: The Lake House - Kate Morton The Virgin Blue - Tracy Chevalier (I've heard good things about Chevalier on here so thought I should give her a go sometime!) The Guest Cat - Takashi Hiraide The Secret Scripture - Sebastian Barry A Cornish Affair - Liz Fenwick Hothouse Flower - Lucinda Riley The Girl on the Cliff - Lucinda Riley The Beekeeper's Daughter - Santa Montefiore The Italian Matchmaker - Santa Montefiore That makes 32 books bought or acquired since Monday! I'm stopping now.

    Jogging Diary

Keep at it frankie, run a mile for me!
  8. Just finished The Little Shop of Happy Ever After by Jenny Colgan, a nice easy (and predictable!) read, now starting The Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse, set in Amsterdam during WWII.
  9. Thanks Gaia, I'm sure I will!
  10. They're doing well, Obi is his usual grumpy self but of course lovely with us, 12.5 years now but still enjoying decent length walks and the occasional paddle! Jojo is great fun but has had a niggle with one of her back legs so having a break from agility at the moment. I have ordered some books that have been on my Amazon wish list a while, most of them are second hand but described as in as new or very good condition from companies with good ratings, so fingers crossed! They are: Come Away With Me - Karma Brown The Consequences of Love - Sulaiman Addonia The Devil's Music - Jane Rusbridge Covenant With Death - John Harris Three Day Road - Joseph Boyden A Brief Affair - Margaret Leroy Gone to Soldiers - Marge Piercy Driftwood Summer - Patti Callahan Eternal on the Water - Joseph Monninger Word War 1: Commemorating the 100th Anniversary - Kim Lockwood
  11. It is, they are beautiful creatures, man has messed so much with their habitats they sometimes have to enter farmland and take stock in order to survive, then the farmers shoot them and sometimes their whole pack, shocking.
  12. Yes, it is called Fellside, this is the Goodreads synopsis: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26030697-fellside
  13. Looks like rain here all day, really should get the dogs out before it gets heavy but I appear to be glued to my chair in my dressing gown!
  14. Ewww, what a story, there are some strange people around and probably not good to give it too much thought!! Did you find a good book to get your teeth into?
  15. I just tend to read what I fancy throughout the year, 2 years ago I read Under the Dome whilst on a weeks holiday in Portugal, I suppose for me it is more about mood and levels of concentration as to what I decide to read, at home, on holiday, in winter or in summer.
  16. I thoroughly enjoyed this too, what did you think Noll? I noticed you gave it 5 stars on Goodreads, high praise from you! I bought his new book, Fellside on Monday, I need to get to it soon to make it worth the silly price I paid for the hardback in Waterstone's!
  17. I thought Sister was excellent, Afterwards was good too but haven't bought The Quality of Silence, something about it didn't appeal. It's hard I find when an author does a particularly good book and then the second isn't as good, I then find it hard to be bothered to try any more, it's as if they've peaked (or jumped the shark as Steve always says! Strange saying!)
  18. Thanks Gaia, I have just ordered some books from Amazon too, using some money I got, I will have to be strong after that as I have run out of room to put them and will most likely have to box the majority of them up while the works are being done! We hope to get the final plans and quotes this week for the house, I have the kitchen plans in hand now, just need to tweak them a little bit. I won't be able to do too much whilst the builders are working, housework will be a hopeless task in the main as I am expecting lots of dust! Hopefully the weather will be condusive to some long walks with the dogs, Obi will need to rest so I can take a book!
  19. Yep, that was me, well remembered! I too didn't like the way the wolves were treated or the way they were depicted, I've read a bit on wolf packs and how they behave, and even met a few, and the book wasn't true to what I have learnt. I'd like to say they are better treated these days but they are still misunderstood and I hear terrible stories from around the world.
  20. Charlotte Gray by Sebastian Faulks, I can never get further than halfway and have tried a few times!
  21. Well, another year older but clearly not any wiser, I had a lovely sunny trip into Windsor yesterday on my birthday and manage to purchase 10 books! 4 from the charity shop and 6 from Waterstone's. PLUS, my lovely brother bought me 3 books off my Amazon wish list. Well, I can't eat cake, so I had to have another sort of treat! I was lucky the books only cost me about £15 though as my Mum and Dad and lovely kids bought me book tokens. It would have been rude not to spend them within hours of getting them! This is my haul: Charity Shop The Three - Sarah Lotz Austerlitz - WG Sebald People of the Book - Geraldine Brooks The Household Guide to Dying - Debra Adelaide Waterstone's Fellside - MR Carey Everyone Brave is Forgiven - Chris Cleave The Seed Collectors - Scarlett Thomas Songs of Love and War - Santa Montefiore Testament of Youth - Vera Brittain Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein Gifts from my brother Out of the Easy - Ruth Sepetys Bodies of Light - Sarah Moss The One That Got Away - Bethany Chase All this at a time when I have less time to read than usual as we are preparing to have quite a bit of work done on the house! Will need to grab time where I can!
  22. I have it on my shelf, my Mum has read and enjoyed it and we often enjoy the same books.
  23. Yuk, I'm just getting over a bad cold. I'm drinking coconut water with pineapple.
  24. Was torrential here yesterday with flooding throughout the county, caused the temporary tarmac on the 'smart' M3 - best use of an oxymoron this week! - to lift causing absolute chaos for hours. Our village is right next to one of the junctions so every man and his wife thought they would be better off leaving the motorway and cutting through, they just got stuck elsewhere! Beautiful in Surrey today though, sunny and warm, off out again soon to take Jojo for a swim and play soon! Supposed to take a turn for the cooler tomorrow.
  25. Where did you go Shirley, we had a few glorious days in Surrey but torrential rain today with flooding in areas! I love putting away the winter clothes and did mine last week, have kept out the waterproofs though! I hope you have more energy soon, i have a cold and that is bad enough, it stops me sleeping well and I need my sleep! I've been busy, we are getting very close to starting building work so have been talking with architects and builders, finding a good kitchen/kitchen company, deciding on a design for a staircase and bi-fold doors, very exciting but exhausting too as Steve is away so I'm doing it on my own, then emailing him details and photos, then back to companies and so on and so on! Still, it'll be worth it when it's done. My eldest is starting his AS exams next week so hopefully will be starting after that.
