  1. I like the sound of a 'film club,' Emmabooks! Good luck with Carol All of a sudden last night I was in the mood to see Star Trek: Into Darkness, so that's what I did. Loved it, as always!
  2. Hey there and welcome to BCF, Emmabooks! Historical fiction is probably my favorite of all genres, and if they are turned into mysteries, I'm in heaven! Hopefully we can share some great titles with one another.
  3. Yes, the east coast got it bad this past weekend, but in the grand scheme of things there have been worse blizzards! I think DC got upwards of 4 feet (121cm) but I checked today and it's very warm so it'll be melting quickly! When we get snowfall totals like that in the Midwest no one bats an eye but not so with the east coast. Figures! You're warmer than us today, Frankie! Yahoo for t-shirt weather!! Good news is, the first day of Spring is less than 2 months away, yeah!!
  4. Stay warm, Claire! And everyone else not on the other side of the equator It's a balmy 28f here and foggy/overcast. I'll take it!
  5. Close Encounters is in my top 10, Woolf, I love that movie!! I watched Sense & Sensibilities over the weekend and cried during the Col. Brandon scenes
  6. Great review of The Radley's, Bobbly. I enjoyed that one as well . Sometimes I wish I didn't know anything personal about authors/actors,Noll, because it just spoils me and puts me off reading or watching them.
  7. -7f here right now, but it feels like -19. BBBRRRRRR!
  8. "We're having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave..." Yes, I'm soaking up the warmth today before this weekend when it's going to be -0 city! The tattoo I got is the phrase 'tempus fugit' with a little paper airplane next to it I'll post a photo in my thread.
  9. -29 is crazy cold, Abby! You guys need more trees up there to break some of that wind, lol. It's 20f here right now, yippee!
  10. Yes, we're used to it here, Athena! Just have to bundle up . It was -9f the other morning so I just kept dreaming of my eventual retirement to a warmer place one day, ha!
  11. It's 3f here today, which is -16c for you guys! It's not really funny but sometimes you just have to laugh!
  12. We've been putting money in the Lottery pool for the past week and a half here at work. Our odds are so bad they don't even worry about an entire department quitting because they won all this money! My week has been good so far. It's bitterly cold here (well below zero) but luckily tomorrow it's going to be in the teens! Yahoo! This past Saturday I went out for lunch with some friends and I had a pastie for the very first time in my life! It was heavenly and an excellent cheat meal . After that I got my first tattoo, so it was a weekend of firsts for sure! I'll have to post a photo of it in my blog. I hope the smoke detector issues get fixed! And that your appt went well, Abby.
  13. I hope you have a happy and groovy year of reading in 2016, Noll! Miss Peregrine's is the only book on your lists that I've read, but that just means I need to come here and get LOTS of recommendations from you .
  14. I've never heard of this Lagotto Romagnolo breed of dog so I had to Wiki! I'm sure I've seen one around and just wasn't sure what type of dog it was, but they are beautiful and sound like a lot of fun! Emma and Odin are doing well. I believe Emma (our Beagle) will be 8 this summer and Odin turns 2 in March (he's an orange tabby). I'm convinced now that Odin won't grow out of his 'I love following you around and sleeping next to you but don't even try and pick me up for an extended cuddle because I will run the other way' phase I'm a big fan of cuddles and cats in laps and he's the opposite, which is unlike any cat I've ever had. He's also a fan of play biting, and will do so to wake me up some mornings. This is probably why Emma doesn't get too close to him since he likes jumping on top of her and biting her ears a little
  15. I was looking around a little bit online this morning, trying to see if there was any book news about Elizabeth Kostova. Her latest book, The Swan Thieves (a book I so enjoyed), was released in 2010 so it's been awhile! I found an old article written in 2012 where she said this: Yes, I am working on a third novel. This one again involves a lot of history, mostly 20th-century, Eastern European history. It's something of a family saga set again the backdrop of communism. I've been working on it for about two years now, and I think it's going to end up being a big, long book. It must truly be a big, long book since it's three years later and I still can't seem to find any news on when her third book will be released I'll survive - I wanted 10 years in between each of Donna Tartt's books so this is nothing!
  16. Is that the last in the 5th Wave trilogy, Bookbug? If so I can't wait for that one either!
  17. Yay!!! I can't wait for the new Chevalier, Claire! Looks like it comes out in March, days apart here in the US and in the UK.
  18. I've only read To Kill a Mockingbird, Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. I also got about halfway through 50 Shades and gave it away since it was truly awful and I was mad at myself for even attempting to read it. I got it as a joke and IMO, that's exactly what it was! I'll have to see if there's a 2015 Top list for the US. I'm curious to see how it compares!

    Hi All!

Hey there and welcome back to the neighborhood, Jessi!
  20. Sadly I've not yet been to the Black Hills, Anna, which is a shame considering I live less than a day's drive. Hopefully one of these days I'll get there!
  21. Claire, what kinds of books does Ali Smith write? I love getting recommendations so will read any author if the genre/story line appeals to me. The following are those authors, however, that I will ALWAYS read no matter what and I'll rush out to buy their new hardcover copies the minute they come out. Iain Pears Matthew Pearl Donna Tartt Elizabeth Kostova Tracy Chevalier
  22. I saw the new Star Wars movie and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Except for one part...
  23. What a naughty puppy, Anna! Oh my gosh! I read them so many times when I was younger as well, and re-read them all a couple of years ago after I visited one of the Ingalls' homestead in DeSmet, South Dakota. Also, whenever we take a day trip down to southern MN and into WI we also always stop at the site of the 'Little House in the Big Woods.' I love those stories so!
  24. Happy reading in 2016, Alexi! I loved The Goldfinch and Joyland. Can't wait to hear what you think!
  25. Good luck on your reading this year, Chalie! I look forward to getting some recommendations The Shining is one of my top 3 books of all time so maybe you should give it a go someday . I also loved Different Seasons. It's a book of 4 short stories, one of them being 'The Body' which is the story that the film on which Stand By Me was based, as well as another story, 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.' You can probably guess what film that was made into, lol. I would also highly recommend Joyland .
