  1. Not sure about bomb-making... there is certainly some tips and recipes in Fight Club
  2. Saw that was on and got it recorded... is it any good?
  3. finished Gallows Thief, it was a terrific read. Going to start 2061: Odyssey Three
  4. just bought Birdsong and The Book Thief from amazon in there 2 for £7 offer! bought them based on recommendations on here
  5. Some really great pictures here! I've always liked this from the opening credits of 2001: A Space Odyssey http://www.2001aspaceodyssey.org/BigImages/Sun_Earth_Moon.jpg
  6. I have only read Blood Meridian and Child of God. I have the Border Trilogy in my TBR pile but I think I will try No Country for Old Men next.
  7. Started reading Gallows Thief by Bernard Cornwell, one of few books he's done not attached to a series. Gripping so far! Being doing quite well lately... reading more books then I've been buying!
  8. Watched The Brothers Soloman. Very funny comedy with Will Arnett and Kirsten Wiig. Had me laughing all the way through!
  9. Just got a signed copy of Horns off eBay
  10. There is a review from the Irish Times on the back cover of my copy that sums it up nicely. "An amoral, apocalyptic dimension through the Miltonic grandeur of the language... It is a barbarously poetic odyssey through a hell without purpose"
  11. I was encouraged up until that last sentence!! Hehe I'm sure it will be fine as it does the dimensions are correct. I do wish publishers would stick to the same editions... I bought all the Dark Tower series cause when I discovered them the editions had been out a while and I thought I bet they release some new ones soon! And they just have... But now there is another book in the series coming out that definitely won't match my copies! I only need two more of the King books released before 2007 of the same editions which are now out of print everywhere.
  12. Thanks! I ordered it... for £9 I hope it is the right one.
  13. I do that for most series but would be a long wait with George R. R. Martin...
  14. I do exactly the same, I nearly always have a series on the go, but will never read them consecutively. I do like to own all of a series first, after reading lots of reviews and making sure it is worth it, but I have to own the set of same editions... nothing worse then a series that don't match. The paperback versions of A Dance with Dragons have just been released and they are the bigger editions (that all new paperbacks seem to be) unlike the previous five paperbacks in the series... grrrrr
  15. Nowadays popularity of a book is often defined by the quality of film adaptation produced. But this does certainly not correspond with the quality of the books.
  16. I do not object to reading any type of book, I would happily pick up a book and start reading without knowing the synopsis or even the genre but whilst I have soooo many books I want to read that are in my comfort zone I am gonna stick to them for now Maybe soon I will mix things up. But I do like to swap around genres very randomly so I don't get bored.
  17. I am half way through it at the moment. I am enjoying the his vivid descriptions but the characters are hard to connect with in any way... maybe that's the point, I'm not sure.
  18. Finished Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne... A nice easy read, quite enjoyable. A bought a load of Cormac McCarthy books brand new for £2 each a while back and started reading my 2nd one called Blood Meridian.
  19. I saw The Awakening... not bad, not great.
  20. A very interesting concept, will be good to see where they go with it!
  21. started Around the world in eighty days by Jules Verne. In continuing through my collection of books I should have read when I was younger.
  22. Yeah so did I! I am also hoping for an overall story arc but we'll see... No matter Game of Thrones starts tomorrow anyway!!!
  23. Great thanks, got it on record!
  24. Has anyone seen the new Drama on Sky Atlantic called Touch? It is created by Tim Kring, the creator of Heroes. and stars Kiether Sutherland. The first couple of episodes have already aired. It is absolutely brilliant so far! Here is a very general synopsis. "Touch involves a widowed father who is troubled by his inability to connect to his mute 11-year-old son. When he discovers his son possesses the gift to see things that no one else can see and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events - everything changes." Strongly recommend it!
  25. Still really need to see this!! Just watched a nice film called 1969 starring Robert Downey Jr. and my favourite, Keither Sutherland. Made in the 80s it is quite dated but it is a nice depiction of two college graduates in 1969 coping with drugs, hippies and Vietnam. Very heartfelt and moving.
