  1. I was thinking the same thing. How can they make this into a film? It would be very difficult in my opinion.
  2. I also agree that this book would be difficult to adapt into a film. This is because the story is told through Jack and his specific vocabulary, so I think his perspective would be difficult to convey visually.
  3. I only really lend books to a select group of friends, who I know will look after my books and will return them and vice versa.. Although I hate it when people turn down the corner of the pages, luckily none of my friends do that.
  4. off to Art class this morning. The room is usually so cold, that's it's more like going into the Arctic

  5. I agree, this is a terrible film! It shows so much promise at the beginning, but the ending not only raised questions, but also made me think that it was pointless watching the film in the first place.
  6. I haven't read any of the 'Sherlock Holmes' novels and as I was watching this week's episode, I did wonder how much of the original text is contained within the show. Does this series generally stick close to the text? I also had a problem with Russel Tovey's accent, it wasn't what I was expecting.
  7. I thought that last night's episode was brilliant, much better than the first episode. It was funnier, darker and full of suspense.
  8. Back to reality with a bump this morning. I hate early morning starts!

  9. I had heard of a few of them, but I don't that there are any celebs that I would get excited about seeing. Also you're right, I'm sure most of them are on there to give their careers a boost. Saying that though, I do think that Georgie and Charlene have real potential already. We will just have to wait until next week, to see what the rest of the contestants are like!
  10. I was so glad that Jason wasn't on this year's panel but, although it pains me to say it, I miss him too.
  11. Is anyone watching this year's 'Dancing On Ice'? What do you think of the line up so far? Also, do you like the changes to the panel and presenters?

    Hi :)

    Hi welcome to the boards
  13. 'Something Dangerous' by Penny Vincenzi I can't write a full review of 'Something Dangerous', because I didn't read more than 25-30 pages, before deciding to put this book away. The reason being, was that I found the characters within this novel to be so obnoxious and obsessed with money, that I could not relate to them or their situations in any way. I felt that it was like a 'Jackie Collins' novel, set in the 20's and I don't enjoy Jackie Collin's novels either.
  14. I started reading 'Something Dangerous' by Penny Vincenzi, but I have had to abandon it. I did try and get to 100 pages before deciding whether or not to continue, but the characters were so obnoxious that I couldn't read any more! So now I'm embarking on 'Fall of Giants' by Ken Follett. Being 941 pages this is a doorstep of a book. However, having read and enjoyed 'Pillars of the Earth', I'm sure that I'm going to enjoy reading this.
  15. I'm really not enjoying 'Something Dangerous' by Penny Vincenzi, but feel guilty for abandoning it. Does a 100 pages rule apply in this case or do I continue until the end?

My mantra of recent years is "life's too short to read books you aren't enjoying". Unless it's for a purpose (like my current Book Club read which is dull in the extreme!) I'd definitely give up and move on! :)

You're right Janet! I just got so fed up with the characters in it, they are so spoilt! So I've put that down and picked a book that I might actually enjoy.

I am getting more like that now. I always used to finish books regardless of not enjoying them just incase I miseed something, but if recommended I would carry on.

  16. I've just started to watch the TV series 'Sherlock' and it makes me want to read the books. Good luck with your TBR list!
  17. Exactly! The audience wouldn't know what/who you were talking about anyway......unless it contained your friends and family, then it would be a quite different situation.

  19. I have started on the 'Harry Potter' box set I was bought for Christmas. So I have just finished watching 'Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone'. I can't get over how young the cast all look!
  20. is extremely tired

  21. I have read the book and seen the film. Although I enjoyed both, I much prefer the book, because it was more emotive than the film.
  22. I'm a big fan of Kate Atkinson's, particularly her 'Jackson Brodie' series. I have read, 'Started Early, Took my Dog', 'When Will There Be Good News?', 'Case Histories' and 'One Good Turn'. I think that she has a fantastic style of writing, her characters are realistic and she has the ability to weave several strands of plot together, without confusing her audience. I also thought that BBC 6-part adaptation of her novels was brilliant, even with the changes the producers made to location.
