  1. I saw 'Puss In Boots' (in Spanish) last night. It was ok, but not as good as 'Shrek' in my opinion.
  2. have been helping my dad buying Christmas presents for my mum. I hope I've picked the right things. Also I have been trying to work out how to post photos on the board but have had no luck. Any tips?

You need to 'upload' them somewhere first - I use both www.photobucket.com and www.flickr.com - once you've uploaded them there (you'll need to make an account) you'll get an 'IMG' tag/link. If you need any more help just PM me. :)

  4. Some Romanian friends of mine invited a group of us to try Gogoshi (sp!). They are a cross between a donut and cake and are delicious, especially combined with chocolate sauce! I would put a photo of them on here, but I'm not sure how to put photos on replies.
  5. has been out with some Romanian friends to try Gogosi (sp?!). They like Romanian donuts & are delicious! M diet has gone out of thwe window though!

  7. Hi welcome to the forums! I'm not aware of any of the authors you have mentioned, but I look forward to reading your thoughts on these books and many others.

    Hello

Thanks! I think I have quite ecclectic taste in books, so I'm looking forward to taking part in a lot of discussions on the board.
  9. Ooh, this is a very interesting article! As the end of the film indicated the possibility for a sequel, I would love to see how to story progresses.
  10. I totally agree with everything said, 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' is my favourite film this year. I'm really looking forward to watching the sequel. Does anyone know when the sequel is likely to come out?
  11. Yes I read 'The Lantern' a few weeks ago and loved it. It's superbly written with a great plot. I would definitely recommend reading this.
  12. Great review! I've just finished reading 'Songs of Blue and Gold'. I enjoyed it, but having previously read Deborah Lawrenson's latest novel' The Lantern', I felt disappointed. The book is well written, but I didn't feel that the writing was as complex and magical as 'The Lantern'. I also felt that the characters both in the past and present were not as equally formed or as strong as they could have been. I found the character in the present Melissa was a little weak and a bit of a drip to be honest, whereas her mother was much more interesting. This would make a great summer read, but I much prefer 'The Lantern'.
  13. Hi Vicky Welcome to the boards!
  14. I collect notebooks. I always have one in my handbag, so that I always have paper on hand to write shopping lists, random things I have to remember, or writing ideas. I also love buying books. Even when I have loads to read, I still buy more. I can't stop myself!
  15. is glad that her dad's minor op went ok (was a long day yesterday!). Now is in search for a pharmacy not on strike, to get his medication!

Great news! My Mum had this op last year, and it made such a difference to her. Good luck finding a pharmacy.

Yes I found a pharmacy quite easily. We will have to wait and see if my dad's vision improves. A lot of people say that a cataract op makes a lot of difference.

    Hello

Thanks for the welcome lauraloves and frankie
  17. I don't like the 'Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer' adverts. They're really annoying.
  18. I would have liked to have seen Chelsee win, however it was a really close thing. I really like Zoe Ball on ITT, but I can't stand all the whooping and cheering by Zoe and the camera crew, after Zoe's every sentence!
  19. is going with her dad to the hospital this afternoon

Thanks! He has to have a cataract op, so hopefully by the end of the day he will be able to see better

  20. Well I haven't read 'Small Island', but when I first tried to read 'The Long Song' I was a little uncomfortable by the almost flippant attitude of the book's main character, especially when it was to do with the subject of slavery. I'm giving this another chance though, because maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind when I was reading it. I will let you know my thoughts when I have finished
  21. I've just finished 'Songs of Blue and Gold' by Deborah Lawrenson (I will write a review for it soon) and I'm now about to start reading 'The Long Song' by Andrea Levy. I did try and read 'The Long Song' and few months ago, but I couldn't get into it. However I've decided to give it another go.
  22. What a great choice of read for the time of year! I'm planning to read more Dickens in the New Year.
  23. I also think that this is a fabulous film. However, I think I could only watch this once, as it's too upsetting. I'm tempted to read the book though.
  24. thinks that it's hard to believe that this time next week, it will be Christmas..

  25. I'm about three quarters of the way through 'Songs Of Blue and Gold' by Deborah Lawrenson. I'm determined to finish this before Christmas!
