  1. Well I finished The Pact over the weekend. I'm not sure how I felt about it. I did enjoy it but I was expecting more. This was my first novel of jodi's. I had it in my mind that she was known for big twists?? Maybe not I'm not sure. I will try more of hers. Which one next hmmmm ..... maybe Handle with Care?
  2. I've read Into The Darkest Corner but thats the only 1 mentioned that I have. Its a dark novel about and what it has done to the main character and why she suffers so badly with OCD and had run away to start a new life. Until her past catches up with her. It was a good read I did enjoy it but I personally wouldn't read it again I don't think. I think because of all the hype it was getting I expected more. Plus it got a little tiresome reading her doing her checks and counting etc. all the time (due to her OCD). I've not watched this programme before maybe I should.
  3. Thanks both. I have now reserved it at the library so should make a start on it in the next couple of weeks I'll let you know what I think
  4. Wow Chalie that good eh. Maybe I will try it. Is it a taxing read though? The subject matter makes it sound it. I'm sure I read somewhere it's a YA read
  5. Ok I've heard good things about this book. Would you recommend it? I'm in 2 frames of mind. I fancy it because I don't really know that much about The Holocaust (excuse my ignorance) and it would be nice to be a little more educated and like I say there are a lot of good things out there about it. I don't really fancy a taxing read though. I don't know if it is or not? Thanks
  6. Yeah thats what I was saying or trying to say lol
  7. Hey Karen Glad you enjoyed it For me the first book was without a doubt the best of the series. The others are good but not to the same standard and with the third being my least favourite. It's much more political. As for the film I hope you're not dissapointed. Me and my 3 friends who have all read the book and were expecting a lot felt it was missing something. The book is 100 times better but they have made a good attempt and it does stick to the book pretty well. The books are normally always better though aren't they. As for the age thing they are quite gruesome but if it was an adult read I would expect it to be much more graphic lol That said though I do think it's a shame about the film because you don't get to see much of that side. They've hidden it with shaky camera work. When people are being killed at the beginning of the games you can't make out whats happening and whos being killed. I guess they've done that because it is a young adult book and want it to appeal to all ages groups. Hope you enjoy the other 2 books in the series
  8. all 3 of them were my faves. Ruth gave me goose bumps. I was nearly in tears. very clever song choice from sir tom. I could relate to every word of that song. I lost my mom at a young age & could feel it. it really was very touching.
  9. not sure if you've ever read any of jodi picoult but she's compared as a smilar author to her. if you like breaking the silence & want to read more I can recommend the midwifes confession. happy reading!!! :-)
  10. breaking the silence is on my TBR list. have you read any of hers before? I read my first last year & loved it & loved her style of writing

  17. If you want sad endings I'm your girl I love sad endings (quite morbid really I guess lol) I find they tend to stay with you longer if it's not all perfect plus life isn't like that. I too will second Me Before You. I guarantee you will cry. Check my review out on it at http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/9948-me-before-you-by-jojo-moyes/page__hl__%2Bjojo+%2Bmoyes__fromsearch__1 Also anything by Nicholas Sparks (who wrote the notebook as mentioned above). He writes lovey dovey stuff that can be a little far fetched at times but are really good. They tend to have a sad ending. 7 of his books have been made into films. Including the Notebook (amazing film btw). Someone recommended me Night Road by Hannah Kristin. It sounds great and I can't wait to read it. Again its a tear jerker. Hope this helps.
  18. Yay can't wait to read it. I'm plodding along with the last Hunger Games book 'Mockingjay' at the moment but then I shall make a start on it. Hope you're right. My reading mojo feels like its slipping need something to pull it back
  19. Please come back and post what you thought of it after I was really excited to give it a try but it doesn't sound as good as 'Me Before You' so I'm sat on the fence at the mo
  20. I cannot wait to read This is a love story. If you love that kind of thing. I recommend Pictures of Lily by Paige Toon. It is so romantic I loved every page. Its a follow on from Lucy in the Sky though which I haven't read yet and didn't realise until after. It doesn't matter though. It doesn't follow on. It just introduces different characters and their lives etc. I would also recommend anything by Nicholas Sparks. He writes beautiful love stories that can be a little far fetched at times but will make you cry. So far 7 of his books have been made into films. They are The Lucky One (Out later this year) The Last Song, Dear John, Nights in Rodanthe, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle. The notebook is one of my favourtie films of ALL TIME. Not read the book yet but I will. I read his latest novel a few months ago. The Best of Me and really enjoyed it. First book to have ever made me cry. Not got round to reading any of his others yet but I'm saving them all up for when I want a good book I know I can rely on
  21. I've managed to find the blurb of her new novel The Girl You Left Behind due out on 27th Sept if anybody might be interested. What happened to the girl you left behind? In 1916 French artist Edouard Lefevre leaves his wife Sophie to go to fight at the Front. When her town falls into German hands, his portrait of Sophie stirs the heart of the local Kommandant and causes her to risk everything - her family, reputation and life - in the hope of seeing her true love one last time. Nearly a century later and Sophie's portrait is given to Liv by her young husband shortly before his sudden death. Its beauty speaks of their short life together, but when the painting's dark and passion-torn history is revealed, Liv discovers that the first spark of love she has felt since she lost him is threatened... In The Girl You Left Behind two young women, separated by a century, are united in their determination to fight for the thing they love most - whatever the cost
  22. I'm a lover of chick lit. Atm though I'm reading the hunger games. I'm on book 3. When I've finished that I have The Pact by Jodi Picoult waiting to be read. I have some chick lit books that I'm really excited to read this year. They are - This Is A Love Story - Jessica Thompson One Perfect Summer - Paige Toon The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight - Jennifer E. Smith When You Were Mine - Rebecca Serle Pillow Talk - Freya North Chances - Freya North Do Me No Harm - Julie Corbin Also MysteryRose if you're a fan of chick lit and you haven't read it already, I throughly recommend Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. My favourtie book of the year so far. Amazing. You will love it I promise!!!!!!! Here's the link to my review on it http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/9948-me-before-you-by-jojo-moyes/page__hl__%2Bjojo+%2Bmoyes__fromsearch__1
  23. I lurve it!!!! Prefer it so much more than the X-factor. Will-I-am is so funny. Such a cheeky lil chap. How can anyone not like him. When they all start name dropping too makes me giggle especially Will-I-am's Michael Jackson impression a few weeks ago about mixing a track with him LOL This weeks looks good when they battle it out and sing the same song. I think thats a good idea.
  24. I really must make an effort to read these. They don't sound like my cup of earl grey and not seen the films but everyone I ask about them who has read them have all said they are a fantastic read. It seems its the people who haven't read them that turn their nose up (me included until now). Watch this space I shall get round to it 1 day (I hope)
