  1. I have LOTS of favourite quotes. I was just thinking about how much I like Carlos Ruiz Zaphons 'The Angels Game' so here's a couple of my favourites from that... "Don't be afraid of being scared. To be afraid is a sign of common sense. Only complete idiots are not afraid of anything." "I stepped into the bookshop and breathed in that perfume of paper and magic that strangely no one had ever thought of bottling."
  2. I got a few chapters into this a while ago and just stopped reading it (I can't remember why!) I remember thinking it was pretty slow paced. I'll have to give it another go since so many of you liked it, maybe I just missed something about it the first time!
  3. Hi Mary, I'd really like to read 'animal farm' (once I've gotten through my already massive reading list!) I just finished 'nineteen eighty-four' by Orwell and really enjoyed it! Hope you're finding lots of good recommendations on the forum. And I'm sure nobody is going to hate you!
  4. I tried too. Even tried translating 'Presse di Fratelli Seguin' but there's no mention of a 'Senguin Brothers' publishers on the internet either so I'm thinking fictional. Would also be interested to know if you find out anything else though
  5. Bend Your Arms To Look Like Wings - Funeral For A Friend
  6. Hi What kind of books do you like?
  7. Almost Easy - Avenged Sevenfold
  8. chavdom... Granted but you never get ill again and therefore never ever see him (although I think that's a pretty fair swap anyway) I wish I could read peoples minds
  9. If only I had someone to play it with I'd definitely get it! I love the look of the calender too, it has Errol on the front!
  10. I didn't even know about the previous ones! After I read this though, I googled it is this the one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Terry-Pratchett-Morpork-Discworld-Board/dp/B005LGTJ6O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1315857590&sr=8-2
  11. Trying to find nice cushions / throws for my flat that aren't stupidly expensive. Harder than it sounds. Ideas anyone?

That looks like a really good site, I've never heard of it before, thanks bethany :)

Don't know if there's an Ikea near you but they're usually good for that sort of thing :)

  12. Granted but you lose it by becoming shorter instead of thinner! I wish I had a personal chef
  13. What about Markus Zusak 'I am the messenger'? The main character isn't a complete loner, he has three friends he meets with regularly but that's it and he's really quite shy and struggles to let his feelings out. It's a very good book, it's technically was written as young adult fiction but many people have said it easily fits into adult. Definitely worth reading
  14. Ooooh I just found this game and it looks fun! Can I keep going even when it's been so long since the last post? Meh, I'll try... Wish granted but you suddenly start craving lettuce and hate the taste of chocolate! I wish I could have my own private library (although all of you lovely people would obviously be allowed in )
  15. I definitely am a worrier but I also try to be optimistic, I do think I'd call myself an optimistic person. This probably doesn't really count as a strategy but when I'm worried about a situation I tend to sit and imagine all possible outcomes and what I would do in each situation (yes, I daydream ALOT when I'm stressed ) and then I feel a bit more prepared to deal with them. Even then though, it's very rare that the actual outcome is anywhere near as bad as my imagined ones!
  16. I've had a few books that made me feel like this, although I've never missed my bus stop since reading while moving makes me feel sick The ones that came to mind straight away were Carlos Ruiz Zaphon's 'The Shadow of the Wind' and Pullman's 'The Amber Spyglass'.
  17. Thanks Ben, I hope you enjoy your reading list too! I didn't get my timetable last year until I actually got to the university and it was posted online so I wouldn't worry about it turning up I had a quick look on amazon for that film vodkafan but I could only see an american import of it, I'll keep a look out for a closer one though, it would be interesting to see a film version!
  18. I tend not to go for books about relationships and would avoid a chick-lit section in a book shop. Saying that I don't think it being lad-lit would make any difference to me, just because its written by a man and is from a male perspective, the content is still going to be the same. I'm sure your book is very good though, I don't mean they're bad, just not for me
  19. I decided today that one of my favourite words is 'Autumnal' (inspired by the recent weather!) The sound of it also reminds me of Mr Tumnus... I wonder if that has any meaning since technically he was the bridge between the Winter and the Summer the children bring in Narnia... or maybe my brain is getting carried away again
  20. Feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount of books I need to have read in two months! :/

you could use the formula I use. I give my self no more than 5 days to finish a book. I divide the total number of pages by 5 and whatever it gives me is the number of pages I must read per day.

      OK, I'm anal!

Haha, no that sounds like quite a good idea! I'm not completely confident I can make myself stick to it but I'll definitely give it a try! Thanks :)

      Easy Reader

I do that too but I give myself 7 days but can read more than the quota if I am enjoying it.

  21. I have to agree with ladymacbeth, I thought she looked a little out of proportion too! And there's no WAY she looks 16! On the other hand, it sounds really interesting... I wonder if they have it in a different binding? (Also, liked your Pan pun Kell )
  22. Ok we had our timetables for uni this week and we're starting Jane Eyre on the 25th October and Great Expectations on 1st November so I think I may have to put Darwin to one side and get started on these! Let the frantic reading commence!

    TableTennis

We played table tennis at my secondary school and I thought it was fun but, to be honest, none of us were very good and probably got more exercise out of chasing the run-away balls around the sports hall
  25. I probably should have mentioned, I'm starting on Darwin's 'The Origin of Species' next because I thought I should get a move on with my uni books! However I did buy 'Little Women' and 'Around the World in 80 Days' so adding them to my list (it was £1.99 in The Works for both of them, I couldn't resist!)
