    Tennis

I watch tennis a lot lately and apparently there are really only 3 top players, which are nadal, Djocovic and Federer. Murray is like a spoiled baby. Whenever he gets behind he whines and throws a tantrum and seems to get worse and worse. He is fine when he is ahead, but it seems like he is no good when there is pressure.
  3. Hello Ponting. I bought this book at used book store in Chiang Mai. Often I find books there that are probably unavailable in UK and US. Plus this book was quite old, so probably hard to find.
  4. This is noe of my favorite writers and Brother Odd is my favorite Koontz novel. Only thing is he seems to have an extreme and unnnatural love for dogs.
  5. I never read Coben books but I love Jack Reacher stories. However, I am retired from law enforcement and I have found there are many inaccuracies in both these and baldacci novels regarding weaponry, tactics and unarmed combat. However, I still love these novels and will continue reading them.
  6. Khao mut kai which sounds fancy but just means chicken with rice.
  7. CD called Red Heart...White heart from Jennifer Loi.
  8. Nam phrik pla tu which is one kind of nam phrik and is one of most favorite food of Thailand. It is made with fermented fish and chilis and garlic and lime and other stuff and is spicy. Eat with rice and vegetables. Favorite food of poor people as can make with stuff from garden and only have to buy fish, unless you catch fish and then buy nothing.

    Bones

I just started watching this and it is entertaining but why do the characters all look alike? There are two nerdy guys and they look like same character and I cannot tell which is which, and there are two women who work in lab who are just alike also. I think this is very strange. The only people on this show who are not like clones are Bones and the FBI agent.
  10. Northern Thai food generally uses less coconut than other Thai food, although the number one famous food in North Thailand which is khao soi does have coconut. Southern Thai food is very spicy, and Isaan or northeastern Thai food is also very spicy. There is a very popular food called laab which I like but is spicy and also in Isaan they do not cook the meat and so do not eat it. But laap made in north or central Thai is okay and cooked. Thai dinner is supposed to have 5 flavors, which are spicy, sweet, bitter, salty and sour. So there is plenty of Thai food is not spicy. I myself like really spicy food, and actually most of what I eat is spicier than what wifes family and most Thais eat, so when we go to restaurant wife orders for me, because they will automatically not serve farangs food as spicy as most Thais get even for same food. Some Thai food is served without chilis so you can make it spicy by adding chili or not depending on your taste. One thing to remember is that the smaller the chilis, the hotter they are, and green chili hotter than red. When you order if you do not want spicy, just say "mai phet", and they will know what you mean as most farangs do not like spicy food. Here is another thing to remember: do not drink anything with shaved ice as usually this is ice they buy in big blocks and drag along the ground. Ice cubes are okay though. Drinking water in restaurants is fine, it is the ice to watch for. Go to restaurants or food stall which is basy, as food is fresh. if not busy you do not know if food is sitting all day.
  11. My favorite shows are NCIS and Without a Trace. Also 24 but they only show reruns of season number 7.
  12. Maureen as you know there are much good food in Thailand and especially Chiang Mai. There is of course a lot of Northern Thai food which I love but there is any kind you want including farang food. Usually I eat home because wife is great cook, but she is from Nakhon Sawan so she cooks Central Thai food, which is the kind most western people are familiar with. She also can make Isaan or nothestern style food, as her mother is Lao. If I want to eat Northern Thai food I have to go to restaurant. One thing I will say is I never eat beef in Thailand. It is the worst. If you are coming to Chiang Mai just tell me what food you like, and I will try to turn you on to the right places.
  13. No Maureen I do not cook Thai food. It is a lot of work with lots of chopping and pounding chilis and frying. Sometimes I mix Thai food with farang stuff like mayonnaise or ketchup or margarine and I think it is very good but Thai people think it is disgusting. Although they put corn in ice cream and ketchup on pizza. Tonight daughter is making dinner which is phad khapao kai or fried basil and chilis with chicken, and also yam pla kapong which is spicy salad with canned sardines.
  14. Hello Sue. It is about American businessman whose wife blows herself up in suicide car bomb outside royal palace in bangkok, and how he tries to find out what happened. I will not give away the story, but I will just say that it involves opium and golden triangle. Good action but I think women who like romantic stories would also enjoy this book.
  15. have to make own dinner as wife out of town so no Thai food for dinner. Fusilli pasta and can of sardines with tomato sauce. Yesterday cooked spaghetti and threw in canned tuna with curry which is very good. Have different flavors but yesterday was panaeng which is red curry. Only cost about 1 dollar in US money.
  16. Silk, which is an arty type movie about a French guy who goes to Japan to buy silkworm eggs and falls in love with the mistress of Japanese trader. Meanwhile he is married and so there is usual drama. No action at all but it did have a surprising ending and very beautiful scenery.
  17. Watched Chinese movie called Eros last night. Wife and kids out of town so I am alone or would not watch this thing, which is like an R rated sex movie. It was 3 short stories which were ridiculous and had no point I could see, like many Chinese movies. These short stories were all directed by supposedly famous directors, some of which are not even Asian.
  18. Another book about Thailand which probably does not interest everyone but I believe anyone who enjoys action and mystery novels would like this book. It is an old book so is out of date as far as descriptions of politics in Thailand, but still an exciting adventure.
  19. Documentary about king cobras on national geographic channel.
  20. Hello TaiMaiShu. Good to hear from you. What have you been up to?

  21. Givens is in Pronto and one more recent one which I forget the title. I like show too but if you read novel I think you will agree tv show character much different from book. I prefer character in book myself. He seems like a true tough guy instead of tv guy who seems to me like the usual weenie that most movie and tv actors are these days.
  22. I read many of his books but my favorites are Unknown Man #89 and Pronto.
  23. The Exorcist was the only book I ever read that I really thought was scary, but I did just finish The Black Angel and enjoyed it a great deal.
  24. I read this bok because it takes place in Chiang Mai but it turned out to be a tremendoys story and I think people everywhere would enjoy it. it is about woman anthropologist studying hilltribr who murder a missionary. Book is very objective about both scientists and missionaries and is not political but just tells very beautiful and interesting story, which is sad but very funny in many places and also gives very authentic description of Thailand.
