This thread makes me want to read more of Jodi Picoult. I have only read a couple of her books, but I enjoyed them both, even though I didn't think they were perfect.

Well, you can consider it a classic yourself and it wouldn't be a crime to do so if others disagreed. I have always thought of a classic as a book that has stood the test of time and has universal themes that apply to all humankind. My definition may not be correct, and the majority may disagree, but it works for me.

I am almost 150 pages into This Alien Shore and still enjoying it. I'm outta here so I can read some more.

Hmm, I have a book of short stories by Ray Bradbury entitled I Sing the Body Electric that is from 1971. Not really that old.

1. I know this may be hard to believe, as I have social anxiety, but I was a semi-finalist for the first season of Big Brother. If I had been a finalist, I would have been in a constant state of panic on the show. Good think I didn't make it. 2. I used to be a gamer. D&D, Vampire: The Masquerade, etc. 3. I am that way, too. If I am not interested within the first 100 pages, I will usually put a book down. Why waste my time if I am not enjoying what I am reading?

I agree with Nollaig about Flowers For Algernon. Excellent read. I hope you enjoy The Forgotten Garden as much as you did The House at Riverton. This Alien Shore by C.S. Friedman is definitely a page-turner, although I am so busy lately it's difficult squeezing in reading time.

Hello and welcome. If you haven't read it already, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides might be a book that you would enjoy.

I have read two chapters from This Alien Shore. I have so many distractions today I haven't been able to read more yet, but judging from what I have read, I am going to like this book. It has already sucked me in and made me curious to find out more about Jamisia(Jamie).
