  1. My first job was a ski instructor. I mostly taught little kids how to ski - I'd been doing it since i was 2 years old and a lot of my family work/worked there so it was an easy in. Def. will not be my career, five years was enough.
  2. 1) I like to travel 2) I love my dog 3) I like scrap booking 4) My favorite place to read is outside 5) I don't tollerate intolerance
  3. I loved the book -- made me cry!! DID NOT like the movie they changed tooooo much it was more than just a book to movie changes.
  4. OK I'm really confused, and feel a little stupid... but I recently saw this playing at a movie theater here in the U.S. are they making a new one here? I feel lost.. I'm on the second book, and I felt the first one was hard to get into but I liked it enough. I did feel like I figured out the ending early on. do you think that was intentional? or are the characters kinda dim? I dont know, I liked it enough to finish & pick up the next one.. but I'd love to see the movie!
  5. I will admit I am a twilight fan, when it was finished I stumbled across these books and kinda got hooked at first, but then once I actually paid attention, I couldn't really stand them anymore. maybe if there were only a few books instead of a few short ones... they just keep coming out and it started being predictable and sometimes annoying... They were ok for a while, but I had to grow out of it all sometime...
  6. I read this a few years ago and sorta recently watched the movie. Throughout the book I always just kept hoping that
  7. this was what I want to say as one of my First books ever - because I didn't really enjoy reading until i was 16 or 17.. so I really enjoyed it back then! I even named a stuffed elephant that my boyfriend got me Susie because I loved it so much. but I don't think I could read it now that my tastes have grown. I tried to read another book by the same author, and I could hardly even start it. but boy do I love Susie my elephant!!!
  8. How are you liking The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? I'm on the next one!

  9. So when these first came out I thought WOW SO COOL! but now that they have been out for a while, I feel like they should be able to do so much more!! I just watched something about the Ipad from Apple, and think if I was seriously going to spend a lot of money on something like that I'd go that way because it can do so much more, and I think the way it lets you read the book is the closest from all of them to reading a real book -- still far from the real thing but you know what I mean - I like how it has the dictionary stuff in it too for those times when I don't exactly know the meaning of a word...... But the Ipad is still too expensive for me, and its its first time out so I bet they will come up with something better before the year is out, I mean how many times a year is there an upgrade in the ipods? It hopefully will drop in price and I've learned the hard way never to buy the first generation of anything! It can only get better right?
  10. I usually don't read a book more than once, unless its been a while and a movie is coming out based on the book. Although sometimes I think I might as well not read the book right b4 the movie because it can ruin it for me! But I like telling my boyfriend what REALLY happened. Like in My Sisters Keeper...
  11. I picked The Girl Who Played With Fire back up from having to put it down for about a week. It's gotten my attention back right away!
  12. Here in the U.S. I go to either Borders or Barns & Noble - and I usually go to Borders because I am a "member" which is free... and I ALWAYS have a coupon for like 33% off and the membership for B&N is $26 a year, and you only get like 20% off or something like that I don't really know... B&N is so much bigger than the borders around where I live, so its really fun to go and browse because they have so much more, but I always go back to borders and find that book and use my coupon!
  13. The Gap is hard to deal with for me. I carry a book around with me wherever I go, so that if I'm ever waiting for something, or have a dull moment I can grab it out of my bag and read.. so If I don't have a book in my bag bc I'm in the gap... I usually find my self bored in these situations. Whats funny is how weird I feel when I'm reading a series.. its like my life is planned out until that series is over.. it kind of makes me sad because I don't get to pick out a new book until I've read the last one. But if it's a good series, I never want it to end!
  14. Since I read this post, I've started picking up random bookmarks wherever I see them at a good price! I think making my own sounds fun too -- does anyone have any great ideas for homemade bookmarks??
  15. I'm not a quick reader. I am more the type to enjoy a book over time, than really read fast. Unless it is a really intense book, that I absolutely cannot put down, I rarely read a book within a day - though I've done it before. I usually like to drag it out, and really develop the characters in my mind over time. I like to get used to them, and think about them when I put the book down for a while.. and break from reading. I look at people who read very fast with a huge amount of books as their goal for the year.. and I will never read that many! I sometimes feel like I'm super slow!
  16. So finally with much distraction, I finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. ** I give it 3.90/5 stars The end was very suspenseful, but ultimately ended the way I thought it would, besides the reason WHY.. I must say it started out really slow, and I could have put it down and many times did, but loyally returned. I wonder though if it was a deliberate slowness, as I'm sure their lives were slow while trying to figure out how/why Harriet disappeared at first. I read the teaser in the back of the book for The Girl Who Played With Fire, and it is very enticing... and I may end up going out tonight to buy it, I'm not sure. The way it ended leaves me wondering how Mikael feels.. and what Lisbeth Salander's past is about... But is it as slow starting and detailed as the beginning of this one? I'm not sure if I'm up for it just now. ** I caved, and went out tonight and bought the book -- so far I'm very into it! Glad I bought it! How does everyone else feel about this book? has anyone finished all three books? are they all must reads?
  17. So I have been on vacation for this week and havent really had any time to read -- Other than on the plane!! but today I did actually get to relax a bit and read some -- and im really getting into this book. It's becoming hard to put down, and getting my attention a lot... Actually I'm gonna quit this, and go sit and read while I watch the waves on the ocean
  18. *Hi Beth!!* I got into it pretty much right away so I really hope it gets better for you. It was def. different than the other books I've read by her, but I seem to be interested about kids with autism.. so that may have helped. Let me know if you end up liking or hating it! There are things I didn't like.. but I don't want to spoil it!!
  19. I've been reading more of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (with the little time I have) and I'm really starting to enjoy it, I hope it continues!
  20. I dont like a book to be predictable. I can handle it here and there but I love a book that makes me sit up in bed because its too intense of reading to be laying down. Twists and turns for me are what make a book un-put-downable (as long as they make sense).
  21. I was actually trying to find a good ghost story recently! And I failed, but I also didn't look too awful hard, as I have a list of things I want to read... Does anyone have a good, scary recommendation for a ghost story? Or a thread link for me to follow??
  22. 5/10/2010 Today I started reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's been ok so far. I had a little trouble at first getting into it.. but it seems to be picking up momentum as it goes though. Hopefully it will live up to the expectations everyone (everywhere) has been raving about. I'm eager to get into it, as I really need a good page-turner.
  23. I usually only let my self buy one book at a time because what I want to read changes usually before I even finish the book I'm currently reading. So, while I have a book to read, I always go to the book store and pick out a few and read the first few pages of them to see if they drag me in. This has worked so far as each book I bring home now I read, I don't put it on the shelf to someday read.. I read it then go buy the next book I've already picked out.. but even that day, I take a long time because I'll still have a few books in mind.. Like today, I sat with four books at the store, and finally chose to read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo...
  24. I started reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo today. So far its all right. At first I struggled to get into it, but it looks like its going to get better.. I'm excited to continue my reading when I wake up in the morning!!
  25. I've read The Pact, My Sisters Keeper, and I just finished House Rules. I loved all three, the Pact and My Sisters Keeper both made me cry House Rules made me laugh, very well written, it makes you struggle right along with the characters. My Sisters Keeper in the movie world, was very disappointing.. I've tried to get into Second Glance, but after the first viewpoint change, I couldnt get into it anymore and put it down half way threw. I was sad because from the first characters viewpoint, I was so into it, but once she switched, I just lost interest. -- Has anyone finished this book? What are your thoughts? I have a bunch of her books that I asked for for birthdays and such, but I seem to just leave them in my TBR pile for longer and longer...
