I have lost count of the number of books I have bought over the years on a whim because it had an interesting looking cover, only to bring it home and give up halfway through because it just wasnt my thing. The latest book I did this with was a few years ago now, but it was The Lovely Bones, although a little bit of hype had an influence as well. Now if I am going to get a book it will be after I have looked it up online , read some reviews etc. and it makes no difference, although you cant help admire the artwork on some, just dont buy it on the strength of a pretty cover

Kubrick's film was never intended to be a true adaptation of the novel, it was his take on it, I preferred it, maybe I should read the book again

I didnt know he hated it, very strange. It is the only film adaptation of his work I can think of that in my opinion actually bettered the story, which is probably why he didnt like it I suppose; because it was different to and actually better than the book. *ducks for cover*

I read that years ago, I think I have it somewhere it's very simplistic and not one I would recommend, it's like something he wrote when he couldnt sleep one night and was bored. Didnt they make a movie or tv drama out of that? I seem to remember it and it was god awful.

I think they will be quite happy with that, they werent ever in with a realistic chance of winning the cup, so the more money they can make in the rounds the better.

I havent seen a film that has literally scared or disturbed me for quite some time. Wrongly or rightly I was allowed to watch horror films as a young teenager, a few stick in my mind from that period: Silver Bullet which I vaguely remember being about Werewolves and that they could only be killed with...a silver bullet. I was at my Nans house watching it one afternoon with my nan, grandad, 3 aunties, my mother and my nams pet staffordshire bulll terrier. There is a moment where one is shot and it goes totally silent for a few seconds, then all of a sudden it jumps up. Everyone in the room jumped, even the dog I also remember having recurring nightmares for quite some time stemming from Salems Lot.

What does reading a book mean to you

I've been thinking about this and for me its escapism, I finished reading The Stand months ago and it still pops into my head and they are like real memories like I was really there. I also love the way Stephen King writes the introductions to some of his books, I havent read The Langoliers for a good few years, but the way he ends his introduction to the story 'now we have a plane to catch....' totally immerses you in the story before it even starts, perfect escapism that can transport you into a different world. -
replay? it was a league game lol. They beat us 3-0 in Newcastle. The result was dissapointing, but the performance was brilliant, totally played Newcastle off the park. Playing like that we will easily make the playoffs. Even the Newcastle fans on their message boards are saying they didnt deserve to get a point lol

Stephen King is the first author that I ever got into, the latest I read and enjoyed was Firestarter, he can be very hit and miss though some of his books bore me to tears. Some I would recommend would be: Dolores Claiborne Misery Firestarter The Shinning Geralds Game Four Past Midnight (collection of short stories, one of the first King books I ever owned) The Stand IT (to a degree, although nothing happens for very long periods and it takes a bit of perseverance) I've not read his more recent stuff, it's something I intend to catch up on.

I totally agree with that. Newcastle are certs for promotion and I was a bit suprised with how Swansea dominated, and if you ask any Swansea fan they will tell you it was inevitable that Newcastle were going to get back into it when there was only 1 goal separating the two teams. I'm stilll confident Swansea can make the playoffs now though, which at the start of the season seemed way beyond our expectations; whether we can make promotion though is another matter and all depends on who manages to make automatic. If Newcastle and Forest go up automatically, I don't think there are any other team that could beat us over two games; and I think the playoffs will end up being fought out between West Brom and Swansea, who we can beat quite comfortably. The only two teams in this entire league that make me as a Swansea fan nervous are Newcastle and Forest.

Swansea 1- Newcastle 1 Bitterly dissapointed with that result, Swansea totally dominated the game and Newcastle just managed to grab an equalizer towards the end. If only Swansea were better going forward they could have finished Newcastle off.

Chelsea winning 3-1 with 10 mins to go. The swans vs newcastle game is a very good game to watch, but i'm biased! Swansea have been the better side so far (arguably ) we are just rubbish upfront! Now 4-1 lol

Huuuge game on Sky today Swansea vs Newcastle 12.45 Swansea are going to be to strong for the Toon imo, the ground will be jampacked with 'jacks' and are unbeaten in 8. Anyway should be a great game! Along with Stephen King Terry Pratchett was one of the main authors that got me interested in reading in the first place. I have not read his work for a few years, even though at one time I used to collect his discworld books. I think maybe it is time to start revisiting Rincewind and the gang.

Well I have been trying this out and I think the person who suggested having classical playing whilst reading is on to something. Of course it wouldnt work for everybody, but for someone like me who is very easily distracted by the tv and hearing words/phrases/lyrics that catch my attention, and who gets a little self conscious of sitting in total silence, which can be a distraction in itself; classical definitely fills a space and is a non obtrusive pleasant background 'noise'. Classical FM is annoying though, with the commercials and presenters they go to every 10 minutes or so. Fortunately there are a number of online sites that constantly stream music with no interruptions whatsoever. I'm listening to one streaming from Holland as I type. That sounds pretty horrific, knees are one thing you really shouldn't mess with it will only effect you later on in life. You should consider getting into coaching, especially since you already work with kids, you could coach a local kids side, I know a few people who do that and they live for it!
And less of the Swansea quips

I really want to make proper ground in my book this weekend, so once I have had a bit of a doze and emailed into work saying I wont be there I will be reading for an hour or so. Then I have to go to my Doctors...again, I go there so much they invite me to their Christmas party lol. My team are live on Sky tomorrow (swansea) against Newcastle so looking forward to that!
Wish I worked with the kind of people who went to quiz nights and the like, the people I work with are hideous, but I suppose me saying that makes me just as bad!
What level do you play footie at? A knee injury sounds pretty serious!

That is good that you set up by yourself, I wouldnt know where to start! I hate working in an office with a passion lol grown adults sitting around desks like school children all talking about each other behind each others backs, god it annoys me.
Whilst writing this, I have decided to call in sick today lol

Of course I dont mind you asking, I just work in an office doing the usual basic admin stuff, typing, phones, usual ****, it pays the bills I suppose. I was full time but been part time since November, which makes it a lot more tolerable lol. Working full time in a job you dont like, getting up in the dark, coming home in the dark, falling asleep within an hour only to wake up to do it all over again was not fun. I'm disabled so my choices in what I am able to do for a living are pretty limited, which is why I do what I do, surrounded by bitchy middle aged gossips.
