  1. I don't think there are any best times of the year for astronomy, as long as you have clear skies it doesn't matter what time of year it is or what the climate is like, otherwise they would never see anything in places like Spain or Portugal where it's always warm. There are certain stars that are only visible at certain times of the year, but there are billion of others to keep you amused. Unless you have a huge telescope individual stars are not the most interesting things to look at anyway. You can see the andromeda galaxy for example with the naked eye, so even a smallish telescope, or even binoculars will make it quite impressive. You can also see the rings of saturn with a pretty modest telescope, although I believe it is coming up to a phase where the rings will be at an angle where they will seem invisible from earth. Disclaimer: This is just my opinion from what I have read, I am by no means an authority in Astronomy and stand to be corrected.
  2. That's a great picture, I took an interest in Astronomy just before Christmas and bought a 5" dobsonian telescope, but I'm waiting for the weather to warm up before I delve more into the hobby as standing out in the dark as a learner when its -4 is not my idea of fun. This winter is so cold! I'm hoping for a very warm summer with plenty of sticky nights where I cant sleep! I've done a bit of research into it though and have had quite a few very clear viewings of the moon. But it needs to be collimated properly before I start spending hours outside with it looking for planets, galaxies and nebula, which is not a big job only takes a few minutes with the right equipment.
  3. I don't like Mondays - The Boomtown Rats
  4. Ah well, I enjoyed that game. Time for bed before work in 3 hours Congratulations to The Saints. Thanks for the company, great thread.
  5. oops
  6. Not looking good for The Colts!
  7. This game is really making me want to go to the 49'ers vs Broncos game at Wembley in October. Anyone got tickets? Any spare?
  8. That was a great play leading to the touchdown for The Saints. I want The Colts to win though, only because Peyton Manning is the only name that I know.
  9. If only they could do something half that magnitude for the FA Cup final or even the Champions League Final. I wont hold my breath. You can say what you like about the Americans, but they know how to put on one hell of a show.
  10. Wow that was epic. I cant believe they played live last year about half a mile from my house and I didn't even hear it
  11. Sky Sports will be showing The Who, i'm not sure if the BBC will be though. Some of the adverts are on You Tube already, i'm not sure if you are allowed to link to them on here, so I wont:mrgreen:
  12. I hope the British TV coverage will cover the halftime show, I doubt it though!
  13. They are definitely not worthy of all the hype they received in my opinion, I think they suffered from a bit of a sheep mentality, where it became cool to rave about them. The first book for me did not even start moving until after 100 pages, and I know a few who gave up before then, the depth the beginning goes into was completely unnecessary for me. What relevance to the story does all that detail about Swedish Business law have exactly? The second book was the one I overall enjoyed most out of the three, and I gave up on the 3rd before even getting halfway in. The amount of unnecessary detail just bored me. I listened to the audiobook of the first before I read the physical copy of the book, which I think helped me stay with it because I knew it was going to get better the more I read. There are moments in each of the books that really grabbed me, but I then found I had to wade through pages of turgid, excruciatingly boring detail to get to the next exciting part. If you are struggling to stay with it but you want to finish the story - give the abriged audiobooks a try.
  14. I love this forum and how you can switch from talking about so many different subjects. I'm enjoying this game so far, I am not looking forward to starting work tomorrow after 3 hours sleep though
  15. That has to be one of the scariest things to happen, probably the biggest audience of any show worldwide and that happens. She recovered well though.
  16. Oh man Queen Latifah's earpiece messed up, she's winging it:blush:
  17. Sorry, I worded it wrongly, I didn't intend to say that every single person who follows the game is snobby, as that is not true obviously. But it is a sport who's image is defined by class more than any other sport in this country in my opinion. There are some aficionados of the game who look down on people who are new to it and just want to learn, and tend to have the attitude 'well if you don't know, then why are you here' kind of thing. It's an attitude I experienced when I first started to take an interest in watching, there were some who were only to pleased to explain what was happening however.
  18. Much like Gridiron, Cricket is a sport you have to make an effort to understand, and is not a sport you can really just pick up and watch. If you can grasp the little subtle nuances of the game it can be great to watch, although it is slighly spoiled for me by the somewhat snobby image it has in this country and the even snobbier people who follow it who consider some not worthy of watching the sport. Which is a shame.
  19. I'd love the Superbowl to be on a Saturday night/Sunday morning UK time. Programming doesn't start until 11pm and finishes at 3am Monday morning, when I have to get up for work at 6am I'm not a huge fan as I have never fully grasped the game in depth although I get the gist, so I don't have a team I 'support', but it's still a spectacle that everyone on earth should have a chance to witness at least once, bit like an eclipse. Ok maybe not.
  20. I finished the Eyre Affair today, going to start on Lost in a good book sometime tonight
  21. I cant remember a fictional character I have felt more in-tune with in recent years than Lisbeth Salander. Whilst I have not experienced anywhere near the hardships she did throughout the story, I can fully relate to her outlook on life in just wanting to be left alone, being an outsider, and not giving a stuff what anyone else's opinion of me is!
  22. Very true, the same applies for any drink that contains caffeine.. or alcohol Even the 'decaff' options still contain Caffeine, just less of it I am not supposed to drink any diuretics at all, but cant resist my coffee! Another thing I noticed in your post is that you eat a lot of bread, if you are trying to lose weight this is one thing you should try and cut down on.

  24. I've tried various different environments to read over the years. I find the best for me is indoors in total silence, I quite liked the idea of listening to background music that matched in some way what I was reading..but it didn't work, I found it to distracting. So I sit in my living room now with everything off (erm just read that back, everything electrical off, ), though I do tend to leave my PC on. I'm in the process of redecorating my bedroom and am on the lookout for a comfy seat that I can put in there (thinking a loveseat), so I can have a reading room away from distractions such as the TV and PC. Reading outside in the height of summer is also quite nice.
  25. I like to search for obscure real names to use as user names, Johnny is not my real name and that is not me in my avatar either Kind of wishing now that I had picked another name because it keeps making me think of:
