Sky TV/Cable TV Channel audits
Johnny Carson Whit replied to Johnny Carson Whit's topic in Music / TV / Films

Does anybody regularly do this? By Channel audits I mean sitting down, going through each channel you have and are paying for and justifying your reason for having it. I have unbelievably over 100 channels. Going through them, and not including the free channels, I regularly watch.... 2. There are over a quarter of them I have never even watched once in my life, some I didn't even know existed, and i'm paying for it, they must love me:lol: Time to make a phonecall to Mr Branson I think !

In the UK we have them every 10-15 mins, on most channels. On ESPN America they seem to be every 5-10 mins and they are the same ones over and over, if there's a TO there's a break, someone scores there's a break, somoene's injured - a break its like they are trying to brainwash you. With our live sport in the UK we have absolutely no commercials whatsoever during play regardless of the channel its on, apart from with cricket or boxing.

Here are today's games- Syracuse vs Gonzaga Georgia Tech vs Ohio State Michigan State vs Maryland Missouri vs West Virginia Cornell vs Washington Xavier vs Pittsburgh Texas A&M vs Purdue Duke vs California

As far as I know, there doesnt seem to be a big scene like there obviously is in the states, there is certainly no coverage of UK leagues whatsoever on any of the sports channels. There are amateur teams and leagues throughout the country though. The College sports scene seems to be huge in the states huh? Was watching it yesterday and there was a full stadium of people watching college students. Looking forward to the coverage today, I enjoyed watching it yesterday, it's a pretty simple, fast sport to get into. I was just rooting for whichever team were losing to see if they could catch up:lol:

Anyone on here into this? I've made an effort to get into it over the last week or so and although I've never watched it before it is quite a good sport to watch. The NCAA college basketball tournament has been shown live on ESPN America over the last few days. Coverage starts today at 4pm. The Northern Iowa vs Kansas game last night was an excellent watch.

You took the wrong elevator, you were meant to go down....... -
You sound so convinced I'd recommend giving it another go, and be aware and accept that it does take about 60-90 mins to get into the action, it's a very very long film, but the overall experience is a draining one and at the end you will appreciate the slow build up and character development.

It takes a while to get going but it's an absolute classic that launched the careers of some major American actors. The Russian Roulette scene is one of the most harrowing scenes in any film ever made, with that Vietnamese soldier shouting 'Mao' all the time it makes me shiver.
-
The commercial breaks every 4-5 mins during live American sports. Are American concentration levels really that low that they need a break so often??

I love FMJ, the drill sergeant is just brilliant No Vietnam war film thread can go without a mention for one of the greatest films ever made - The Deer Hunter

Throw it here
Johnny Carson Whit replied to Johnny Carson Whit's topic in Quiz Room / Thread Games Jokes etc
I've never played it before, but I think it's best not to over think it:lol: You get an object 'thrown' at you from the last post, obtain something from that object i.e. wool from a sheep and then 'throw' it at the next person for them to do the same, and on it goes.... that's about it really, quite what you are supposed to do with the canoe from my last post I'm not sure:lol: -
To me they reminded me of the old school horrors you used to get in the 80's like Nightmare on Elm St etc. what I would call 'proper horror films' no special effects, no CGI just plain old in your face gruesome horror. And of course, Sherri Moon who is one of the most beautlful women on earth

Your Book Activity Today - Thread 9
Johnny Carson Whit replied to Janet's topic in General Book Discussions
I am fully intending to make some serious headway on His Dark Materials this weekend. I have Under the eagle at the side of me yet to be read; and Dead Simple & A faint cold fear have just come in at the Library that I've had on hold for ages ! Fortunately i've bought the other book i'm reading Meditation for dummies and it is just a reference book as opposed to continuing fiction like my others, so can read that as and when -
I love Rob Zombies films, they are the amongst only a few recent(ish) ones made that stick out in my mind as favourites; maybe that is helped a little by his lovely wife Sheri It seems to have taken quite a bit of flack but I thoroughly enjoyed his take on Halloween too. I haven't seen the 2nd yet. "Gimme a B Gimme an A Gimme a B Gimme a Y What's that spell? What's that spell!?! " Brilliant!

The IPL. The Indians treat Cricket like a major football game it's mad.

I've seen the recent trailers for that being shown over the last few days; they seem to be pushing it as a nice breezy light hearted film; but I know grown men who have been reduced to blubbering wrecks by that movie.

I've barely been this year because of my health, so there is a little bit of me that hopes they dont go up this year but i've been watching and following them since I was 11 Sky showing loads of Newcastle games is the reason I want them to go up, so Sky will share the coverage out a bit more fairly between us mere mortals

The Swans were in the top division when it was the 1st Division back in 80-81 and were top for a time, but that was before it was called the premiership, they then spent the next 20 years falling down the leagues; and to be quite honest I would have it no other way. Watching them on a wet cold tuesday night with 2500 people are some of the most prominent and best memories of my childhood. The pride I would feel if I saw them go up to the premiership will, I imagine be similar to the way a parent feels when they wave their child off to 'big school' for the first time. People who go for the glory option and support some dim distand team just because they are fashionable will never experience anything like that.
