  1. NO Thou shalt not besmirch my childhood dreams of unearthing a TRex graveyard!!!

    In other words, welcome ;)

If only I had unearthed a T rex graveyard unfortunately the closest i got to that was digging in a cave in Beligium whilst at Uni and that on dated to 40,000 years not a few million. Most of the time its ditches and pits in the UK Landscape archaeology they call it to make i sound more interesting..lol

  2. Thanks everyone for the welcomes..trust me when I say that archaeology is a very unglamourous job, and having spent 12 years up to my arm pits in mud, especially during the winter I was glad of promotions a few years ago and now spend my time recruiting a new generation of archaeologists and getting to live at home.

  3. Interesting thread. ;) I have to say that I can't think of any characters I've identified with in any of the books I've read. There have been many characters I've fallen in love with, could imagine spending all my time with, or enjoyed loathing, but never one that reminded me of myself.

I have to say I agree with this, not sure my life which is pretty dull and routine..get up go to work come home again means that I can't identify with anyone I read about, I often wish I could be more like characters, but maybe thats why I read so much because they have just intresting lives, even when things are going bad for them or something horrible is happening its pure escapism.

  4. Hello, I have noticed a number of other new members posting introductions about themselves and thought I would do the same..well a little about me.

I am 37 an archaeologist although I no longer work in the field. I am an avid reader and probably get through about 8 books a week if not more and still manage to work full time, I love anything from Crime to Fantasy. Currently about to start a new book I got from the Library yesterday by Andre Camilleri.

I have two guinea pigs who roam free in the house, and I spend a lot of time hoovering up the little presents they leave me

Anyway please say hello and if you want to know anymore just ask.

  5. Having sat through the adverts recently because i was doing the ironing I have a new hate, The one for finish dishwahing powder, its awful what is a diamond standard washing powder anyway..I think the woman doing the voice over eggs it, dishwahers are not sexy!! and dishwasher tablets really aren't

  6. I think the taste of water depends on where you are from, I live near the Salisbury Plains in Wiltshire so the water is very hard because of the chalk geology, this means it is better filtered as limescale also builds up quite quickly.

I have never been one for the slim fast plan I have to admit, I have always been a believer in eating healthily and cooking with fresh ingredients, my worry on those diets is that as soon as you have reached your recommended goal and you go back to eating normally you put weight back on again. I think its really down to the amount of food we eat, I started making the size of the plate I was eating from smaller so the portion looked bigger and it certainly helped.

I do also go to the gym a couple of times a week but chose a gym where its not about the way you look its about getting healthy and I find it a great stress relief after a difficult day at work.

anyway congratulations to all loosing weight however you are doing it and here's to a healthier 2010 where we can all be happy no matter what our size.

  7. My favourite reading place is in bed with peace and quiet any time of the day, its a guilty pleasure that i love getting into bed in the afternoon on the weekend to read.

I do also read in the bath, and occasionally have to top the hot water up to stop from getting cold. In the summer I might sit in the garden on the lounger provided the neighbours aren't out too..I am now dreaming of summer...sigh will it ever get here

  8. Boy, I can't think of a particular author who sent me in that direction. I think I've always liked whodunits. I could say, Carolyn Keene, author of the Nancy Drew books, because I've liked mysteries since I was a kid.

Carolyn Keene and Nancy Drew I haven't thought about that in years I had about 50 of them, used to get them ordered when I lived in Germany in the 70's as a child from the puffin club. That did start my love of crime (reading wise I am not a master criminal by any means) closely followed by Agatha Christie rightly called the 'Queen of Crime' and the Conan Doyle and the complete Sherlock Holmes series.

  9. One of the things I also find wierd is when discussing books with people who have read the same thing is how they pronounce the names, especially true of fantasy books where the names are not common to us..

One of the hardest books for names i ever read was Anna Karenina, apart from not really enjoying the books the names were so long I got confused..
