  1. Picking up a new book for me is like starting a new adventure.
  2. I really enjoyed Gentlemen and Players. A girl from work urged me to read it and I nearly gave up on it but glad I persevered. I love when others give me recommendations but when someone actually lends you a book and then wants your opinion, I tend to dig my heels in and read anything but that book and I can also feel quite pressured. Is this just me? Makes me sound ungrateful doesn't it?
  3. I must be in the minority then cos I really enjoyed this two part drama. Didn't catch it over Christmas as we had visitors so had recorded it and this enabled us to watch it back to back. Also really enjoyed the 39 Steps last Christmas and have since seen film. Thought they were quite close. It was the film with Kenneth More.
  4. Twilight Series
  5. I used to love Dean Koontz books especially: - Strangers Watchers Intensity
  6. Cell, Stephen King I could not even finish it but it played on my mind for months. I had to give it to my sister in the end cos I did not even want it in the house.
  7. 23 1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible - 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte 8 1984 - George Orwell 9 His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman 10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens 11 Little Women - Louisa M Alcott 12 Tess of the D
  8. I am a Harry Potter Fan through and through but read Twilight Series last year cos my sister convinced me to try it. Have to say now that I like them both and have to agree that they are very different and would be hard to compare them. Definitely a market for them both and people shouldn't feel that they have to choose a camp, isn't it bad enough that we are torn between Edward and Jacob, lol.
  9. I am Legend, Richard Matheson The book is not very long either so perfect to ease you in gently
  10. No I loved it too. I just watched the BBC Version with Colin Firth last summer and watched the Kiera Knightly movie about two weeks ago but have yet to read the book but I do intend to this year.
  11. Hi Sophie I just joined the forum yesterday. You cannot beat curling up on sofa with a good book in one hand and a nice cuppa in the other!
  12. Agatha Christie - would love to find out about mystery surrounding her disappearance Marian Keyes - cos she is just so funny and comes across well in interviews Sean Connery - cos he is just great and I love the Bond movies Audrey Hepburn - cos she was amazing actress and had so much style
  13. I know this thread is geared towards new books being released but I am looking forward to the following being released in the small paperback version: - The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown Picture Perfect - Jodi Picoult Her Fearful Symmetry - Audrey Niffenger
  14. Marian Keyes would have to be all time favourite out of that list. I have read all of Cecilia Ahern to date - got her new one for Christmas so still have to read that. Read Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella last year after going to see the movie. They were fab and her stand alone novels are entertaining, especially enjoyed twenties girl.
  15. Spot on now its your turn
  16. Think I might give this a go. When New Moon came out, I was definitely for Team Jacob!
  17. I was so pleased that Chris and Ola won. They had great chemistry and their charlston was so cheeky! The only thing that annoyed me was when Ali Bastian won the Christmas Day Show. Ali was one of my favourites but I could not help thinking that judges were now thinking that she was the rightful winner of 2009, maybe I am wrong?
  18. The boy in the striped pyjamas by John Boyne.
  19. Harry Bosch, detective from Michael Connolly Books. Discovered Agatha Christie last year and I also have soft spot for Hercule Poirot.
  20. I watched the film the Jane Austen Book Club and there was a guy in it who joined the book club. The book that appealed to him was Northanger Abbey cos of the gothic feel. This film was based on book by same name, author Karen Joy Fowler.
  21. I enjoyed this book so much that I read it twice. Once a few years ago and then again when it was re-released because film was coming out.
  22. Yeah I googled it and am sure that it said it would be shown in UK in March.
  23. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C. S. Lewis. Famous Five and the Secret Seven Novels. I also loved the point horror books in my teens.
  24. Determined to read Pride and Prejudice and Don Quixote this year!
