  1. Hi Karsa I bought these: I have bought: The Primitive EC Tubb The Jester At Scar EC Tubb The Cloud Walker Edmund Cooper The Seedling Stars James Blish Meeting At Infinity John Brunner The Margarets Sheri S. Tepper and I also downloaded The Forever War from somewhere else.
  2. Not a bad thing- people are either one way or the other...let me know how AMSR is. No more SF Gateway books for me until I have read the first 7 I downloaded...4 to go so I am not really complaining I have never had it so good
  3. That does look interesting Brian. Just out of interest how does your swop thing work? I mean all the physical books I have are usually second hand from the outset and get well read, that upsets some people I know.
  4. Interesting! I may do that next year. I have too much waiting on my kindle already to finish first! Good luck to you both.
  5. Ok Gotcha I saw your post. Well after their late start they seem to be getting it together, lots of books promised, and they reply pretty quickly on the forum so that's good.
  6. Well, Tales Of The Dying Earth would be a good quick taster of Vance's writing style. Because Suldrun's Garden does start off quite slow, hardly any magic in the first chapter. I am very pleased you are reading this. What is your name on the SF gateway forum?
  7. Is it a true story Julie?
  8. Hi Julie , you have come to the right place. I have been here for over a year , made lots of friends and read many books I would never have looked at before. Please feel free to join in the November reading circle you still have time to vote I think. It is a murder mystery theme which sounds like up your street. I found once you have read one Budweiser you have read them all..
  9. Hi Abcinthia, disturbing avatar. I read a great historical book about women a while back that you may like. It is Courtesans by Katie Hickman. It is the life histories of several very famous /infamous women who lived outside polite society. They were quite feminist. I was sad when I got to the end it was a good read.
  10. Suldrun's Garden :an8: dude I am all excited for you!!! Your first part of the greatest Fantasy trilogy ever
  11. You seem to be able to do lots of different styles Nollaig. I like that loose mix media thing but I could never do it. Teachers were always trying to get me to loosen up. They are not actual cards they are designs done on not pressed art board one and a half times up.. That's that's how it was done back then anyway. As they were spec. designs rather than an actual commision (I always hated working to deadlines) they have no lettering or numbers. If the publisher likes them then they pay for the artwork and do what they want with it, it could end up as gift wrap paper or anything. .
  12. Apparently that was an incident that started off the Thirty Years War in Europe in the 17th Century; Catholics and Protestants killing each other and vying for power and all that rubbish. Actually Noll I just googled it it happened twice! You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenestrations_of_Prague They weren't priests though my mistake.
  13. Thanks! Nollaig, the middle photo top sketch is colour pencils , the lower one of the trees is in kid's felt pens. We were told to sketch every day in all kinds of media Pickle, I have tons of old life drawings I will dig some out and photograph them if anybody wants to see more? This one is studies of my own hand done in charcoal: Here are two greeting card designs I did in a series that did not sell; there were originally two designs for boys and two girls: sorry not good photos because they have a sheet of clear plastic over which reflected the light; looking at them now 23 years on I can see why they did not sell they are hideous.
  14. These are random pages from one of my old sketchbooks : Oh the lady was a life class model not my wife
  15. Pickle I could never get bored looking at your black and white drawings. They are great.
  16. Both Hunger Games and The Hunting Party look interesting Dawn. [sigh] I will have to put some pennies in my book buying account
  17. But the Gateway forum isn't working very well....
  18. SF Gateway site is NOW LIVE !!
  19. Why are you scary?

  20. I am 50 and I feel I am on my Fourth life. The first life was my childhood and the second and third were my two marriages. I don't know what will happen in this one.
  21. That must have been some snort Janet!
  22. Peacock Day maybe?
  23. Poppyshake got me interested in this one too Andrea so if you want someone to read it with at the same time let me know.
  24. Sorry I had forgotten all about this Janet. Well I don't know if the automatic word censor will let me say it! Steve Scaffardi calls it rather crudely "tit monday" but it is that day in early summer ( I have found, not necessarily a monday) when all the women as if by magic start wearing summer dresses and low cut tops on the same day. It is a very happy day
  25. Thank you! I will look at that.
