  1. I didn't plan on buying anymore books this month, but honestly, who can resist a book for 1,39 euro? :friends0:

Went to this discount store with mom and they usually don't have books, but not I walked out with three Jules Verne books (have been thinking about reading some of his work lately): Around the World in 80 Days (De Reis om de Wereld in 80 dagen), From the Earth to the Moon (Van de Aarde naar de Maan) and Around the Moon (De Reis om de Maan). All are Dutch paperbacks, since I don't read French that well, might as well read them in Dutch. English would be silly. :D

Anyway, three books for 4,17, not bad ey?

They didn't have much else though, too bad. Yeah some Poe stories books, but I have that already.

  2. Oh am re-reading the Eye of the World now, first book in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, and even though I know it's not my fav, it's been years since I read it and I find myself happy to be reading it again. It's lovely, magical, and feels like wrapping myself up in my favourite blanket again after too long. I didn't know I remembered this much, I didn't even know that this was THAT particular book, with the Ogier, and the Saidin roads etc. I loved it, and it's certainly amongst my favourites, can't wait to read the rest again, don't think I have ever gotten beyond the first 5 or 6, so there's plenty more, am SOOOOO happy about that.

  3. Someone somewhere here posted something about the book Living Dead Girl, can't remember the name of the author, but about a 10 year old girl that gets kidnapped and has to serve her kidnapper for 5 years as a sexslave. Then he forces her to track down a new victim. Now, I haven't read this, but this would be the sort of book to disturb me.. the cruelty people could inflict on other people, and then not just pain, but mental torture, and especially on a child. That would leave me feeling horrible for days at least.

  4. I have read about two books of this series. The Witching Hour and Lasher, I think. Also, I read Merrick in the Vampire Chronicles, and the other sort of cross-over books. To me, they're not nearly as good as the Vampire Chronicles. Also has to do with the fact I don't like witches as much as vampires, but that said, I also think these books are more chaotic, plus I just can't get myself to feel any sympathy for any of the lead characters.

Plus, I really don't like these Taltos creatures.. I have quite a bit of imagination, and it's not that they're so alien that doesn't work for me. I just think the whole thing is far-fetched, and it just.. doesn't work. Don't know, for others it does, because there are plenty of people who adore this more than the Vampire Chronicles, but for me, nope. Also, all the cross over books between the series, are less than the others to me. The characters that come from the Mayfair series are just not likeable. At least, the ones belonging to the family. Mona (especially her, I hate her), Rowan.. I would be perfectly happy if I never have to read about them again.

  5. Oh I hate the American Pie films.. if they'd make me cry it's with embarassment and revulsion. They're horrible, disgusting and I hate the few I have seen, or really I have seen the first one in total, the others I caught some scenes here and there when they were on telly. It's like Van Wilder, or pretty much every Ben Stiller film (except for Night at the Museam, that one was fairly tolerable and actually entertaining to watch).. they go for cheap laughs. That and sitting through an entire film where you feel embarrassed for the lead character, well let's just say those films are NOT my taste.

  6. I don't think its possible for Shyamalan to make a bad movie.

Okay, I disagree, I was quite disappointed with the Happening. I was very excited about that, and in the end I was like.. what?

The TREES did all that? The plants, and trees made all those people go nuts?

I mean.. the rest of the film wasn't bad, but that one seriously disappointed me.

But I will love to watch this new film, seems great, loved the trailer.

  7. Just ordered Anne MacCaffrey's Chronicles of Pern: First Fall, and Dragonsdawn and Robert Jordan's The Great Hunt (Wheel of Time 2).

:D Happy Happy joy joy. Now just wait for 5 to 7 working days for them to be delivered. Not fair, order Dutch books and you get them the day after!! But now, because I read them in English.. more than a week.

    Still. New books yay!

  8. Browsing an online book shop site, or just websites about books, and realizing it will take me forever to read them all, and that I just don't have the money to buy em all. Seriously, my wish list is getting longer and longer, and if I'd read all the books that sound interesting to me, I'd have enough to read for like, a decade. If not more. Too many books, too little time. So depressing.

  9. Mmmm coffee. And lots of it. And the chocolate chip cookies I made today, I know they're bad for you (I mean, they're sugar and chocolate, mainly), but yumm. Made them cause my brother loves em so, but well, me too.

Bad Renate, no cookie. Oh, wait. Cookies were the problem.

  10. You know, this also matters actually how much you have to spend.. Someone who makes a lot and spends 50 pounds or someone who doesn't make a lot spedning 50 pounds on books, quite a difference there. Me, I don't make much (student :() but I also don't have a lot of expenses. So books are allowed. :giggle:

  11. Well I thought about reading this book when I first heard of it, but doubted.. seems like a difficult book. But now I am seeing the trailer of the film all over tv, not that fantastic but again it's got me doubting to read the book. :D

Would rather read the book than watch the film tho.
