  1. I will not ever, under any circumstances change from BT. They have been nothing but brilliant ever since I had my phone/broadband service with them. For the past seven years there was only one day when the phone/net was done for 1 hour...and whilst they were fixing it, I received text messages every 15 minutes with a status update. For phone, broadband for our home network I pay
  2. I only read on my way to and from work. As I have to take a ferry which takes about 1 hour each way, it is the perfect time to pass the time. If there is noise, I just pop my iPod on. Somehow music in the background does not bother me as much as chatty people
  3. You all are gonna dislike me even more now, but I DESPISE bookmarks - I find them a waste of time, because... Wait for it..... You are so gonna NOT like this..... I just chuck the books I read in my big bag, and the bookmarks generally fall out. So, what's the point ? With an earmark I will always find the page I am on Hardback, paperback - no matter. If the books are owned by me, I use them in the way I like. That is also why I would never even think of borrowing books - why put myself and the other person through the stress of thinking that I may accidentally earmark a page

    Hi there

Hello All I thought I quickly drop by and say that I have NOT fallen off the face of the earth (even though it almost felt like it on top of the Untersberg - see picture below). I just returned from our holiday in the South of Germany and it took me a week to plough through all my emails, blog lists and FB updates...sheesh, an online social life sure is stressful So, I shall be back with a vengeance from now on - and I got a couple more books in the mail over the last couple of days. So plenty to chat about soon
  5. Hi there - I am so sorry. I was away on holiday so only saw your message today!

I am indeed lucky living here - it is so peaceful. I have the best of both world really as I work on the mainland, so I get all the good shops and action there and at night time I get back home to a restful Island :)

    Chat soon

    K

  6. Of course!!! How could I forget about them - they are way cool. I also loved the "Bill & Ted" movies

    Hey!

Hi Alan! Welcome to the forum
  9. KimmyS

    Greetings!

Welcome Larry - I hope you stick around this time It will certainly be great to get to know you better
  10. Yep, I have - I really enjoyed it. If you had read SK before I'd say it definitely does what it says on the tin But yeah, I thought it was better than I expected
  11. You are all going to draw in a sharp breath but I earmark my pages. Always have done and always will and I refuse to feel bad about it
  12. I must be weird because the cover means squat all to me. Seriously, I never look at a cover and as I almost never buy hardbacks I don't even look for the cover by way of protection ( I am actually quite reckless with my books, but that's another story). If I don't know the author it has to be the title that draws me in to go an look at the synopsis
  13. Pretty much any of the Stephen King books - the worst being "The Shining", "Carrie", "Christine" The only SK book/movie adaptations I liked were "It" (fabulous IMHO), "Misery" and "Stand By Me"
  14. Me too - he is funny and good looking, well ok way back then but still *drool*
  15. Oh yes, I ams who I ams I don't hang around UKS much these days only once in a while to check what's going - it always ends up in my buying something I am working with Upsy Daisy Designs these days - fab Canadian company.
  16. My pet peeve is when a book constantly flicks between past and present and it you have to read the paragraph twice to twig which bit it belongs to...HATE that
  17. I only keep very few - those I know I will read again after a while. But the majority of books I give to Charity after I have read them
  18. It has to be Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot for me. I am also pretty confident that Sherlock Holmes would make my list if I had ever read the books....if I go by Jeremy Bratt's interpretation of Holmes though I am sure he'd be in my top tree

Well, it is nice to know that there is someone here with the same kinda passions
  20. Aww, thanks Fi - I feared that may be the case. So I guess I better start saving those pennies :)

    Hi there

Ohhh which one is that? I s'ppose you have a different user name here?
  22. Ahhh bless you Ben, that is so sweet of you.

I am sure I will love it here

    Have a lovely Sunday afternoon

  23. I remember that I was given that book to read and the synopsis sounded interesting but somehow the book didn't grip me at all. I cannot say exactly what it was because as soon as I finished the book I pretty much forgot about it.
  24. Same here! The other one that still intrigues me is the Yorkshire Ripper - I think we have two books about him
  25. I love the Alex Cross series and enjoyed the Maximum books too. The women's murder club is a great series too but so far I have only come as far as book three. I really enjoyed the lifeguard too and I seriously do not mind who writes the books in the end. The way I see it is that the brand James Patterson tells me what I can expect when looking to buy a book. It's like when you buy a car an go for the Audi - you buy it because of the brand and you know you get something good. You don't buy it because you think it is the same people putting car after car together, right? Co-authors get paid good for their work, otherwise they would not continue to do it.
