    Non Fiction

I read a lot of non-fiction - travel, psychology, history and familiar essays. I also love philosophy and have read Montaigne, Epictetus, Epicurus, Seneca and Marcus Aurelius over and over.
  2. I like to try new authors but I'll read a few reviews before I buy the book - just to make sure!
  3. Biographies/Autobiographies I've enjoyed: Elizabeth I - Alison Weir The Legendary Jackrabbit Johannsen - Alice E. Johannsen Me - Katharine Hepburn Father Goose - William Lishman
  4. Yes I own the DVD and I've watched it many times. It's a lovely film. Well yes, I agree he doesn't deserve Hero. It's difficult to interpret what she is thinking throughout all this. Her life is dominated by the men around her. Throughout the play the men talk of cuckoldry as the fate of the married man, while in fact it is the women who are most often betrayed. Balthasar's song pretty much sums it up. "Men were deceivers ever; One foot in sea, and one on shore, To one thing constant never....." This certainly leaves the ending ambiguous.
  5. I can't get through Tolkien for the same reason.
  6. My favorite place is at my desk with a steaming cup of coffee but I also like to read in bed (especially during those cold Canadian winter nights).

    Your Age?

I turned the big 4-0 this summer.
  8. I found the characters in this book a bit flat - they didn't come alive. However, I did enjoy the movie.
  9. Some of my favorites are: Kiss the Sunset Pig by Laurie Gough - a Canadian woman's soul-searching road trip from Ontario to California intermingled with memories of her international travels and her quest to find the perfect place to live. Educating Alice by Alice Steinbach - funny stories about Steinbach's efforts to make each trip an educational experience. Notes From A Small Island - hilarious I also like Peter Mayle's books. I love reading about Provence.
  10. This book has been on my wishlist for quite awhile. I think I'll include it in my next order.
  11. My Favorites "Much Ado About Nothing" - Beatrice is one of the wittiest characters in literature and Benedick's pretty bright too. I love the banter between them. "Macbeth" is a great play. It explores the corruption of power, greed, and how your conscience can drive you batty! "Hamlet" is the most complex character in all of Shakespeare's plays and it certainly is interesting getting into his head - crazy or not.
  12. The Mentalist is a great show. Simon Baker is va-va-voom! I can't wait for new episodes this fall.
  13. I'm from a small town in the province of Qu
  14. Hi everyone. I just found this website today and decided to join right away! My favorite authors are P.G. Wodehouse and Jane Austen. I also like Shakespeare - "Much Ado About Nothing" is an all time favorite of mine. I love books about books - fiction or non-fiction, and I also love reading about people's travels. Looking forward to chatting with all of you.
  15. I abandoned Umberto Eco's "Baudolino" a few years ago, picked it up again last year and eventually gave up. I've been reading "Don Quixote" on and off, but I'm pretty sure I'll eventually finish it. It's quite a funny book.
  16. I've read "Much Ado About Nothing" countless times. I just can't get enough of Beatrice and Benedick's banter! I've re-read PG Wodehouse's "Jeeves and Wooster" books and his "Blandings Castle" stories often. "Pride and Prejudice" is also a favorite of mine. I've read it quite a few times.
