  1. Hey guys! I'm looking for some books that go into pretty good detail of witch trials both in America and in Europe. Fiction and non-fiction titles would be greatly appreciated as the only one I can ever think of is the Crucible. Your suggestions would be much appreciated!
  2. Death at a Funeral
  3. Kicking and Screaming very cute movie
  4. Thinking some clam chowder in a bread bowl sounds yummy for tonight.
  5. Same here, if a book is really able to capture me than I become a fan of the author, and regardless of how many works they've written- I'll go buy/read them all. That being said, you can't expect every single book written by someone is going to appeal to you. I'd read everything J.K. Rowling puts out, regardless of style or genre, and even if one was terrible (can't imagine it would be) it wouldn't take away from Harry Potter. I can't imagine that reading one book that you didn't particularly like could turn you off an author unless it was the very first book of theirs that you try reading.
  6. Back to reality after a night in a beautiful hotel and the comfiest bed I've ever slept in. *sigh*

    1. Inver

      Inver

      Sounds lovely.

  7. That's so exciting, Kylie! I'm happy you're going to be doing this If you're going to be getting a cat for the first time, I'd recommend getting an older cat as a kitten can be a huge adjustment. You need to teach them not to claw things, deal with playfulness in the middle of the night, etc. It can be a bit frusturating if you're not used to it where as an older cat will be much calmer and (hopefully) have already cracked most of the bad habits in a previous home. Good luck with your pet searching!
  8. Heading up to Aberdeen in a couple hours to visit my grandparents. Grandma wants me to bring her Twilight and New Moon so she can oogle RPatz *rolls eyes*

See, see! This is why Twilight is wrong on sooooooo many levels!

I wish I would have gone to Aberdeen, Scotland, Inver!!! Would have been much better of a trip seeing you :)

LMAO, I took her Narnia and Finding Nemo along with Twilight. She's in heaven!

  9. When I saw this thread I thought immediately of how the Twilight franchise is re-releasing the popular classics such as Pride and Prejudice and Wurthering Heights with 'Twilightesque' coveres to tie them into the hype. Something like that absolutely disgusts me because classics stand on their own, regardless of cover- that was proved 100 years ago when covers were mostly plain with the name being the selling point. Having worked at Barnes and Noble, part of our training involved why and when books go from hardcover to paperback to (potential) movie cover- it's all about marketing. Do a lot of authors actually go back and rework something after it's been released? Guess I never really thought of that as even being something some practiced because releasing a book prior to it being ready doesn't seem like a risk that a lot of publishers would be willing to make being how hard it is just get a manuscript looked at.
  10. Great review, Kate. I'll be putting this one on my TBR pile!
  11. That's right! How was your party? I've been alright, just sorting through stuff (aka, boring :) )

  12. Avoiding the ones that have already been mentioned (there are so many great authors y'all have listed!) Robin Jones Gunn (her books are engrossing and heart wrenching, both adult and YA) Cassandra Clare (the Mortal Instruments is genius, can't wait for her new series!) Charlene Harris Rachel Caine Alyson Noel Ben Sherwood (everyone must read The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud AND see the movie. Fantastic story. Have 2 of his books and can't wait to read more!)
  13. Darn time zones! When things get closer we can all talk more about a specific time then, perhaps it'll end up working out. I don't mind getting up early to join in (I'm always up early anyway) so just let me know what works best for all of you who are interested! 'm really excited about this one. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my all time favorite books. We read it in school and it was one of the books that seemed to reach past the teenage 'I'm too cool for English class' and really grab most of our class. Plus Atticus is an awesome name.
  14. Thanks bookworm As a kid I remember we would always try and count how many licks it would take to get to the center of the Tootsie Pops. Never worked out so well, lol.
  15. A chicken sandwich and cheese curds.
  16. Went to the bank to make a deposit- the manager tried to recruit me to work there... *sigh*

It's tempting. The people there wouldn't know my past work history, so I could lie. LOL

    4. Kylie

      Kylie

Geez Abby, you've got work coming at you from all angles!

  17. Freedom Writers. What a great movie
  18. I want to adopt this child! Too cute!
  19. It was nice chatting with you today, Mac :) Hope you have a lovely Tuesday! xx

  20. Aww! They're so cute, pickle! Which one is 'pickle'? In high school our science class had a long haired guinea pig named Toupe (because he looked like a big carroty hair piece!) They're such cute creatures! Aw, Paula! You are more than welcome to come visit Piper whenever you want. I didn't really realize it at first, but having one as young as she is is much more work than a regular cat! She's like having a baby!
  21. Not sure what the boys would think of these but I'd suggest: We All Live in A Yellow Submarine- The Beatles The She Goes- The LAs Can't Buy Me Love- The Beatles She Loves You- The Beatles (pretty much anything by The Beatles ) The Phantom of the Opera CD (hm... the boys may not like that one) Livin' on a Prayer- Bon Jovi I may think of a few more later. Pretty much just go with The Beatles.
  22. One book that never fails to make me cry is Flowers for Algernon. Its such a beautiful, heartbreaking story- one of my favorites. A book that I bought recently and started but need to get back to and finish is The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood. The back cover alone makes me tear up a bit!
  23. I'm just about to curl up and read for a little bit in bed before getting ready for the day
  24. Hehe, I love your Guinea Pigs, Pickle. They are one of the cutest animals out there! You should post some new pics of them sometime soon! Thanks everyone. The baby 'sort' of slept through the night (until I took away her jingly balls... THEN she got bored at 2am and decided to sleep) She's going to the vet today because she definitely has a broken rib and I want to make sure that gets healed properly. Also, she hasn't made a single peep since I brought her home. No meow, no purr, no hiss, absolutely no sound. When I pet her I can feel her purring vibrations, but can't hear anything. Could something be wrong with her throat or are some cats just silent?
