  1. Your daughter sounds great My copy is also holding on by a thread I just feel something for Gatsby... the last two paragraphs get to me everytime I read it.
  2. Unfortunetly, I saw the film first. Don't get me wrong the film is brilliant but I like to read the book first. I read the book in one sitting and I absolutely LOVED it. Very touching and very sad indeed I wouldn't class it as chick lit either because it has a depth to it that some other books don't.
  3. I love your avatar!!!!!

  4. That bit is so so terrible All of those people that go to his parties and get sucked up in the glamour but not one of them will go to his funeral.
  5. I was looking at one in Waterstones and I just do not like the idea of it. For me there is something nice about holding a book in my hands and turning the pages. I also like books that are falling apart (I get a lot from charity shops) and dog eared because it makes me feel like other people have held the book and read the book through.
  6. BRILLIANT book! I loved it and I couldn't put it down. There were a few parts that I found very disturbing though and I wouldn't recommend it to young readers or people that are particularly sensitive. It scared me too and I found myself thinking about it long after I had finished I restricted myself to reading it in broad daylight
  7. I read Small Island last year and loved it I have Every Light In The House Burnin' in my TBR pile and her other books on my reading list. She is very good indeed. I am excited about the TV adaption of SI
  8. I'm going to add this to my reading list it sounds great
  9. I finished it a few days ago. I had only read Rebecca and chose MCR because it is said to be the most like Rebecca of all of her books. I wanted something to ease me into other books of hers because I often find that I love a book by a particular author and am then dissapointed by others that they have written. Not the case with MCR. It had that same moody, dark, mysterious feel to it as Rebecca. It was a real page turner and I found myself sitting in awkward positions at night just so that I could read one more page Obviously won't give away the end but if you liked Rebecca then add this to your reading list (all of Du Maurier's books are on mine ) The ending had me thinking for a long time... I still haven't made up my mind
  10. I am indeed Thanks for the warm welcome everyone

  13. Has anybody read this book and if so what did you think of it?
  14. Great Gatsby is my all time favourite book and I read it once a year. I love the way that it is written and the way that Fitzgerald captures the hopeless desperation of Jay Gatsby. I always cry at the end without fail
  15. I have abuot twleve that I shove inside whichever book I am reading. They are postcards, scraps of paper, notes, movie stubs etc etc
