  1. This is our book circle at the moment, have you visited the thread?
  2. Sounds like a migraine for me too Chrissy. I occasionally get tension headaches and don't find them too bad. They last longer than migraines I find but they don't completely floor me, I can usually put up with them, just find them a bit annoying
  3. Yeah I tend to buy specific books from Amazon quite frequently, but not always- I have no patience to wait for things to arrive
  4. Agnes Grey is on my wishlist after a friend from another forum recommended it, in fact apart from Hunchback of Notredame (which is there for the reading circle) it's the only classic on my wishlist
  5. Hi

lol yes they do, I hadn't noticed that. How are you?

  6. The Time Traveler's Wife is one of my favourites, although I did find a little confusing
  7. I've heard from a number of people that The Host is better, but I've only read the first Twilight book myself, and not read The Host
  8. Am now reading The Potter's House by Rosie Thomas which is my bookswap book from Inver
  9. Mine kind of run in the family, my auntie used to get them but they stopped when she was in her mid-twenties (so if I'm like her I shouldn't get them much longer). I know migraines put you at increased risk of brain hemorrhage though, which is why I can't take the pill, and that's what she died of which is slightly worrying
  10. Giulia. I read the first Thursday Next novel a while ago and really enjoyed it, I have the others on my wishlist.
  11. Hmm, I don't really judge it differently. I am more likely to persevere with a classic because I like the idea of having read a classic, but the only one I've read and enjoyed (other than children's books) has been Jane Eyre although I found parts of that difficult. I guess I don't mind difficulty with reading so much in a classic, because I kind of expect it so if the story is engaging that's enough, but if it's not I dislike the difficulty with reading because I have to put a lot of effort into reading something which I'm not enjoying
  12. I just put my review for this up on my thread. Overall I thought that the general premise behind the book was good but, like Kate, I felt it dragged, and I feel alot of what made it drag could have been taken out and some aspects could have been discussed in more depth
  13. I know just the feeling Janet I tend to sleep for ages then be awake but feel drowsy at the same time after mine, and then drowsy the next day or two, and my eyes are still sensitive then
  14. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Synopsis I was going to copy the synopsis from Amazon but it had a spoiler, so I will try to write my own. The Scarlet Letter is the story of Hester. A woman who is being punished for her adultary by being forced to wear a scarlet letter A on her clothes, so that all will know her crime. Along with her daughter Pearl we see how this effects Hester's life and the lives of those around her. Review Plot wise this story has great potential, there is intrigue, love (romantic and otherwise), and elements of both psychology and morality. However I thought that the story dragged, the basics of the plot were interesting enough to keep me reading, but there seemed to be much which was unnecessary and which made the story drag. To hear more about how the letter effected Hester's life would have made the story better I feel, or maybe to hear more about how she felt about the letter. I also found the style of writing difficult to read- maybe I'm just not cut out for classics, and occasionally lost track of what was happening because of the way it was written- and only realised later when what I thought was happening no longer made sense. If you have the energy, or the concentration it's probably worth the read, if just for the fact that the ending sums up everything so well and makes you think it was worthwhile. If you want something easy though, don't bother. 2.5/5
  15. Probably my copy of Goblet of Fire. It's very battered, but it has history. It's a first edition (not exactly rare!) and I got it the day before it was released. As far as most valuable errr...I don't know. Unless a second edition of Prisoner of Azkaban is valuable
  16. Twilight, it's an easy read and has an ok plot but reads like fanfic (and some fanfic is better). It is kinda addictive though, I do kind of want to read the others, just not to pay for it! And the Da Vinci Code, it's ok and quite readable but nowhere near as good as people seem to think it is
  17. I hate the one for the easy oven cleaner stuff- so easy a man could do it pfft.
  18. My parents have gone out for dinner so I made ratatouille for me and my sister
  19. I started getting migraines when I was about 10/11, and they've got steadily worse since then. When I first started getting them it was just a headache and pins and needles in my hands, and sometimes around my mouth and nose. Then I started getting auras, or flashing lights in my vision, which start off just annoying and little but gradually spread across my vision so I can barely see. With really bad attacks I can barely stand I have problems speaking- usually there is just the odd word that I can't stay no matter how hard I try, very occasionally I vomit which actually makes me feel better. I started off with things to take when I have an attack just paracetamol, then I talked to the doctor and tried a nose spray thing which didn't help, then Zomig which didn't help either. All that really helps is sleeping it off. Last year I was getting about 3 a month so went to the doctor again and she put me on sanomigran which seemed to at least lessen the number I was getting, although only back to usual so it may have been coincidence. I take migreleve too now which I actually has found the best to take when I get an attack actually, although it still doesn't stop them. My triggers are tiredness, stress and eggs- but only if eaten alone, so I can't eat scrambled eggs which I used to love
  20. I'm sure I have at some point, just can't remember. I could have read Beedle the Bard in one sitting easily but forced myself to make it last a bit longer
  21. I could never get into Lord of the Rings, but love the films...I will probably try to read it again at some point though
  22. I thought 13 sounded odd.
  23. Yes 13 Minutes is a good one
  24. Mercy I wasn't impressed with either (art of the reason I'm re-reading actually, I want to see if it's better second time), and Tenth Circle is saved by the comic strip sections for me. I like My Sister's Keeper best, and probably Change of Heart. Songs of the Humpback Whale is out now, I want!
  25. I actually partially started the bookring because I didn't know if I wanted to keep it I wanted to see how I felt about it not being on my shelves
