  1. Nonsense I say, of course you need it! My new favourite comfort treat is handmade nougat... with nuts... yummy... My body seems to want to bankrupt me, though, because it only craves the expensive stuff.
  2. I've been feeling in the mood for horror, also and my boyfriend recommended Thomas Ligotti to me. I am a scaredy-cat at best and his books seem terrifying to me, even though I haven't tried them yet. I doubt they have too much blood and gore, though - he wouldn't have recommended them to "faint-at-the-sight-of-blood"-me if they did . But, yes, perhaps give them a try? And if they're not too scary, maybe I can try them too...
  3. I like you already. You remind me of someone very dear to me. Welcome!
  4. Well, not no music, but yes, I pretty much prefer silence. When I do listen to something, it's most likely Josh Groban. Or Chris de Burgh.
  5. Hello! Thank you for your message. I am very much enjoying the forum, thank you. :D I'm not that far along with The Graveyard Book - having chosen to put my current reading activity on hold in favour of another book I bought on a whim (Sunshine by Robin McKinley) - but I'm finding it quite interesting and cannot wait to return to reading it. I've paged through it to view the illustrations and there seems to be a lot of interesting things ahead. :)

  6. I have started the book and plan on finishing it by Tuesday at the latest. I don't want to say anything just yet, because I'm not far along, but I'll be posting my thoughts on it shortly.
  7. It was a dumb thing to do but it wasn't that dumb - Sunshine, Robin McKinley. But he went anyway, didn't he...?
  8. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the obvious change in Edward and Bella's relationship when novel went to film. I didn't like the film at all, because I didn't feel it depicted what I thought the novel was all about - Edward and Bella, bloodthirsty vampire and human, together. That was the appeal for me. That made it romantic. Is he going to rip her to shreds or manage to control his bloodlust... Oooh... The suspence! In the film that just translated as... boring... But, since this is a Twilight the novel thread, I am getting horribly off-topic and should end my rant. End
  9. I bought this book today on a whim and was wondering if anyone has read it? The description on the back is pretty dull (in my opinion), but what caught my eye are the reviews. It promises to be better than Anne Rice and Clive Barker and seems to be a new take on vampires. If anyone wanted me to, I would type up the entire back cover, just for interest's sake, but I'm feeling lazy right now, so here's a brief description of what the story is about: A girl is kidnapped by vampires, dressed in a long red gown, shackled in a castle next to another vampire and though she's worried about becoming his dinner at first, the next morning she's still alive and well and said vampire wants her help with escaping. If it wasn't for the reviews, I would have left it right there in the book store, I must admit. But anything that's said to be better than Anne Rice is worth checking out, I think. Although, that is the same reason I'm apprehensive about reading this book... So, has anyone read it and what did you think of it? I am putting my reading list on hold and starting it tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
  10. I don't listen to music all that much... I like silence. I'm boring.
  11. It occured to me just now that Dorian Gray also featured in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Very good film, I highly recommend it. But, back to the novel.
  12. The very first horror books I ever read were those from the Goosebumps series ( I can't remember their author) when I was... 13 or 14 perhaps. They scared the heck out of me.
  13. I am very embarrassed to admit that I've never heard of this book even though I've known of the story of Dorian Gray for ages. But now that I know of it (and that it was written by Oscar Wilde ) I am putting it on my ever growing to-read list.
  14. I avoid football at all costs. Welcome to the forum!
  15. Oh, I'm very much enjoying the forum. :) I haven't nearly read all the books mentioned on here, yet (I haven't even read of some of them! ;p), so that is particularly inspiring to me to add to my ever growning to-read list. :D

  16. I'm hearing good things about this novel. I think I will definitely buy and read it. I was a bit apprehensive at first, although it did catch my interest, but now I'm absolutely going to try it out.

  19. I love the quote in your signature, I just wanted to say. It's the most amusing thing I've read in a long time. :D

  20. There was a hand in the darkness, and it held a knife. - The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman.
  21. I ate pasta... Which isn't really what I should be eating since I was recently told that I need to do an emergency detox... But as much as I'd love eating fruit all day, I want something with a bit more substance. And, also, pasta is the only thing I can cook...
  22. I meant good clean fun in a non sex-drugs-and-partying-till-dawn way. But, yes, no happy ending is what I was looking forward to at the end of Twilight.. The idea of that is what held my attention through reading all the pre-Breaking Dawn novels... Too bad it didn't turn out that way.. *sigh*
  23. I agree. I liked the saga the first time I read it, but thinking about it afterwards, it seemed that the author took her own idea too far. I enjoyed everything up to the point where the Volturi (or whatever they called those Italian vamps) got involved. After that, everything became too fantastical... and then Breaking Dawn happened. I would've been fine with Edward and Bella conyinuing their human/vampire relationship until the end of her days. Isn't that what makes it so romantic? That being said, I still think the Twilight Saga is excellent reading material for teens today. Good clean fun.
