  1. I've read Chocolat years ago and I enjoyed it. I'm currently reading Runelight, it would fall into the fantasy genre. They're got the Asgardians in it, Loki, Thor etc. Its dystopian as well.
  2. Hmmm lets see..... When did you start to love reading? When I was 8 and discovered that I could choose my own books. School books were boring and not challenging enough for me. This was the time we joined a local library. What books did you love as a child (either read to or to read yourself)? I think the first book I loved reading was called "Joanna". My mother had enjoyed reading Enid Blyton books as a child so she got us a lot of them. I enjoyed The Famous Five, Malory Towers and The Magic Faraway Tree. Later I'd find CS Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia when I was 11 and by then our mother had gotten us The Hardy Boys series and Nancy Drew series. We were also gifted with classics like Wuthering Heights, What Katy Did, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol etc for christmases. We were also given an entire encylopaedia set which we loved. Childhood memories of reading (if you have them)? Our mother had read to us since we were babies and with lots of gifts of books we began to read early. I recall some lunchtimes at school when I rushed to the library as soon as the bell went and spent the entire lunch time reading. It was only at home time I'd realise that I still had a lunch kit full of packed lunch that I'd forgotten about. I also picked up the habit of reading when commuting when I was a teen. It'd take up to 2 hours to get to school most times. Did you read books for school? Yes. I only enjoyed the reading list for secondary school. It was a joy to discover new books I hadn't even knew existed or would not of have considered before. My siblings are all aged one year apart so we all swapped and read each other's school books since we each attended different schools. Favourites Favourite book: That's a hard question to answer. How did you find this forum? Someone mentioned it when I was at an author's forum checking out their books.
  3. I agree. I didn't go to see it in the cinema and eventually my nephew bought the DVD. I especially like when Loki says "I am a god..........." but gets cut off by the Hulk who picked him up and banged him into the ground then grumbled "puny god"
  4. Hmmm, I'll have a go at trying to put pictures up. The British Library, you go there mostly for research purposes but they do have exhibitions on at times. ellierachel This is the one I visit the most. Its a local London library.
  5. I found a clip of The Grumpy Old Men at war with each other
  6. Those fish houses remind me of the movies Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. I think there was a third one too Grumpiest Old Men. I last watched a film called Knowing.
  7. I want to see; Life of Pi Hunger Games, Catching Fire The Hobbit Ender's Game
  8. Oh I recall Wen Spencer's Elfhome series. It starts with Tinker then Wolf Who Rules and lastly yet to be released in the UK Elfhome.
  9. Hi Karsa, I recall reading about a third of that list a decade ago. I enjoyed it. Lots of sword battles and friendships.
  10. I read it over two weeks ago and hated it. I dislike the main protagonist in fact I don't think I liked any of the characters in this book. I'm indifferent to the setting as well.
  11. I like chinese food if I'm eating out. For some reason I crave the crispy fried seaweed (yes I know its finely chopped fried greens/cabbage). I can't stand sweet and sour stuff though. I also like Caribbean Indian food, rotis (flat bread wraps) filled with spicey curried lamb/chicken/chickpeas & potatoes. I also like Southern fried chicken or I'd go for chips, the fat ones with just salt and vinegar or I'd get it and bring it home to add some homemade curry sauce. If I do get kebabs I go for those shish kebabs with recognisable diced chuncks of chicken or lamb and it must have loads of salad with it. Kebab wraps are neater to eat than the stuffed pittas so that's what I choose.
  12. Same here can't name a book I found truly scary. I haven't read The Exorcist, I did see the movie and was disappointed. I'd heard many thought it was scary and I saw it when I was finally old enough to watch it. Of course by then I'd seen some more up to date horror movies and thought The Exorcist movie was just starting to warm up before getting to its frightful climax. It was a suprise to find out that that was it, no more to come just the ending credits across the screen.
  13. I also get a lot of books from the library and I read according to availability. At times I'm not reading the series in chronological order but I'm okay with that. I'm the same when it comes to buying books. I tend to approach a book as a "read alone" story then discover that its part of a series. At that point I make a decision whether or not to look up the series and decide if I want to read more of them if they're available to me. I also have no problem buying/reading a book which is the beginning of a series that is yet unfinished by an author.
  14. If I liked the story I'll endure some bad punctuation or even some shifty grammar. I'll just have a little moan and carry on.
  15. I like Beyoncé's video best but I like how Reba end's the song.
  16. I've been wondering about that song If I were a boy, I've heard two versions. Reba McEntire and there's Beyoncé which one came first and which one do you prefer best?
  17. I have no prefference. I can enjoy both. Sometimes first person is purposely used to limit the amount of information given and it is suitable for that. Third person can give an omniscient view if thats how the writer wants to tell their story.
  18. I don't really collect as I hate dusting shelves and I don't have much storage space in my flat. I'm at a loss why I seem to have accumulated over 60 books! it must be because I put up a few more shelves. I do make use of my local library frequently . I tend to read then get rid of the book via charity shop or bookswapping. I'm a minimalist when it comes to keeping books. I'm a reader not a collector.
  19. I watched Lord of the Rings, I thought I'd get reaquainted with Middle Earth since its not long for The Hobbit to be released.
  20. Ok, who is/are the character/s that Jim Butcher created that are male with long hair. How important is the length of the hair in this/these characters' role?
  21. The only genre I've come across long haired men is in the Sci-fi/fantasy genre.
