Hmmm, about 300-500 though I've read longer. I.m actually pleased if the book is big because it means it'll last longer.

I was in St. John's Ambulance as a teen and sometimes we would volunteer to be a first aider at events. I've also worked voluntarily in a children's holiday playscheme, a group for disabled people and a group for the elderly. I've even had a go at volunteering in charity shops. My last voluntary stint was as an assistant in a primary school.

I'd say that the very first thing that catches my attention is the book's tittle. I won't necessarily bother too much with the cover of the book since it may not match the content. The next thing I'd notice is the author, if I've read some of their work before and I enjoyed it,I may be enticed to try another of their books. Then there's choosing by the genres and checking the blurbs if I have a hard time deciding.

Same here. I grew up as one of four children and we were each a year apart in age. There was no such thing as a quiet place. The family would even joke about how I became deaf and blind to everything else but the book when I read. I do recall eventually looking up to find someone had been talking to me, sometimes shouting and I hadn't noticed

Hi Athena, I've see The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and some of Haruhi Suzumiya. I haven't seen the others so I guess I'll look them up.

Hi Raven, the movies, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and Ponya are family viewing. There are those I haven't mentioned because of the reasons you've given. I even come across two that were disturbing. I don't recall Boys Over Flowers having any nudity. The only violence there is when a girl slaps or kicks a guy who likes her and one bullying scene. The Golden String is all about music, no violence or nudity that I know of. I Love You Baby also has no nudity or violence, its about a teen who ends up parenting his little niece which endears him to a girl that previously paid no attention to him.

I like watching anime. I've seen a thread on Manga but not one on anime. Who else is a fan? I'll try to put up a list on the ones I liked watching. Here it is. I got the first of these book swapping and gifted it to my nephew. I've since got him the rest of the series. The third one in the series is hard to get now unless you've prepared to pay quite a sum. I once saw second hand ones going for £65. I tend to watch anime rather than try to track down the manga. Yes I am aware that sometimes the anime stories may differ from the manga but it's still enjoyable. I've just finished Cold Days. Things have changed a bit and we get to see more about Mab's life. She arranges a terrifying physiotherapy routine!

My favourites are all the VImes ones and all the Witches ones.

I've heard of The Name of The Wind, I intend to read it sometime. I recall reading about the library in Patrick Roffus's Name of the Wind, I'm going to have to look it up again so I'll have to come back and edit or post again. I also liked the library in the Unseen University in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. The librarian is a hoot too lol.

I think I'm a good cook. I've been cooking since I was 12, moved to our new home and finally allowed to have free reign in my mother's kitchen. We'd previously lived with the grandparents and we weren't allowed in the kitchen and never even had to wash any dishes. Even when visiting the grandparents aftewards I wasn't allowed in the kitchen until I hit 30! My siblings and I (all teens) would be watching a movie, they'd go get some crisps or make some popcorn, I on the otherhand would appear with a tray and a proper 3 course meal and all eyes would turn my way. I'd telll them that they know where the pots were and to go help themselves. I use a recipe 1% of the time. I make my own recipes and will happily experiment. I clean as a go in my kitchen since it is a small one. I started my nephew cooking when he was around 7 or so and now he's got himself a place on a chef course at uni at the age of 16. My lil sis his mother, blames me lol.

No one has mentioned Terry Goodkind as yet. He has this series starting with Wizard's First Rule.

Hi Sakura, I'm currently reading a book by Benedict Jacka, its called Cursed, the other three in the series are Fated, Taken and Chosen. Have you tried Kelly Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series starting with Bitten? Kim Harrison has a Hollows series starting with Dead Witch Walking. I.ve enjoyed the Iron Druid Chronicles that you mentioned. There is a Kate Daniels series starting with Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. Patricia Briggs has a Mercy Thompson series starting with Moon Called. Charlaine Harris has a Sookie Stackhouse series starting with Dead until Dark. They made tv series called Trueblood which is mostly based on it. Yasmine Galenorn has an Otherworld/ Sisters of the Moon series starting with Withchling. Katie McAlister has an Aisling Grey, Guardian series starting with You Slay Me.

I have to agree with Karsa, after all there is mention of sexual activity in the books and I recall it getting a bit graphic in one chapter in the Liveship Traders. Oh and I find the Fool fascinating too Rising Dawn. In a way he reminds me of fools in Shakespeare plays, you know, wisdom in riddles and anything but foolish.

That's true. I grew up in the Caribbean and their food that orginated from India is a bit different from what most Indian restaurants would make. I think everything is delicious where ever it may be cooked and variety is great.

Well, the first time I had work experience was when I was 12 and the primary school asked for assistants in the nursery (children aged 3 & 4 years old) at lunch time. After that I'd joined St. John's Ambulance, learnt first aid and did a few voluntary duty days. It was fun. We had to watch Carnival shows for free in the Caribbean and look out for anyone who needed first aid. All we ended up doing was taking a little girl to the toilet because her father (single parent) didn't think it was apropriate to take her into the men's toilet with himself. At 15 my grandmother was put in charge of a nursery and creche when her friend went on holiday so she took us along as helpers. It was enjoyable though no one mentioned pay and we didn't expect it. My first job in the UK was when I was 16 and had just moved back here. I found one of those state trainee jobs and told them I was looking for a summer job until school started when I was going to 6th form. It was a manufacturing machinist job where we would sew stuffed toys and get some instruction. We had two hours at the end of the day when we were allowed to make what ever we pleased so I started buying materials and made some clothes for myself and family as gifts. It only paid £50 a week being a training scheme but I thought that was wonderful as I'd never been paid before. I'd already grown up with sewing as a hobby long before getting that job. I still sew but don't do it for a work or career. I left to return to school after holidays whilst the other trainees stayed and found job placements working in factories.

I've got Angela's Ashes on my shelf but haven't managed to read it as yet. I've read Teacher Man which was good.

I just made a pepperoni, tomato and olive pizza.

DIY painting and decorating that I have planned and got the paints/materials two years ago now. I do enjoy painting its just the prep work (srubbing walls/ceilings, paper stripping, sizing/sealing walls, sanding, dismantling shelves/door handles and heaving around heavy furniture) puts me off. This week I'm a bit slow with my clothes and curtain making, I sew. I also procrastinate when it comes to dusting shelves.
