  1. I read to relax to escape to satisfy my curiousity to empathize to understand emotions to broaden my vocabulary to broaden my imagination to learn
  2. Laurell K Hamilton books. I didn't think I'd enjoy them. I came across two books of The Merry Gentry series and I enjoyed them regardless of plot, grammar and typing errors. I've found I can enjoy any book without it being literary work of art. Its the ideas that matter.
  3. I have to agree with all those that say The Da Vinci Code wasn't that brilliant. I also didn't have the urge to read Life of Pi when I got it. I gave it away.
  4. 1. Oranges are not the Only Fruit, Jeanette Winterson 2. Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card 3. The Colour Purple, Alice Walker 4. Xenogenesis (renamed Lillith's Brood in the latest publishment), Octavia Butler 5. The Discworld Series, Terry Prachett
  5. I confess to not having read Lord of the Flies. I was going to make the attempt until my brother let me know the whole plot. I was 15 at the time and I chickened out. I still won't read it and I'm in my 30s. I have read The Handmaiden's Tale and Flowers in the Attic as well as Clockwork Orange. I got queasy at Dean Kontz's Demon Seed and The Island of Doctor Moreau (by Jules Verne I think) makes me wonder at humanity.
  6. My imagination is let loose when reading but film/tv never seems to live up to my imagination. Thats okay since everyone's imagination is subjective but it still gives me a chance to see how someone else interprets a story and how they solve the problems of conveying it on film/tv with whatever budget they have available.
  7. I'd have to agree with this.
  8. This was a sad story for me. The link between Frankenstein and the monster reminded me a bit about the role of parent and that of a child. Things went badly wrong just because of Frankenstein's curiosity and maybe envy that women carry children. He could have just as easily seen the wonder of life by fathering a child the normal way.
  9. Anyone ever read these? Some tyranical women ruling everyone taking special interest in abusing men phyiscally, emotionally and sexually. That's not to say that Janelle in the first book Daughter of the Blood does not have a hard time as well. Saetan as a father figure was interesting as is the notion of hell in these stories.
  10. Hi, its funny that I can't stand Buffy but I do like Kelly Armstrong's Women of the otherworld series in particular Bitten, Stolen and Broken which has lots of werewolf activity:readingtwo:.
