  1. I have a few, some given as gifts. Sometimes I can't find them so any piece of paper will do or I'll memorize the page number. I have left books opened faced down at times but then I worry over the spine of the book getting too creased. I don't like making dog ears of book pages.
  2. I'm always dry eyed. I do get the feelings of joy, sorrow etc but I do know its a story I'm reading even if it is a true one.
  3. Hmmm, this is a hard one. I like Anne McCaffrey's Pern series, Trudi Canavan's Black Magician triology, Anne Bishop's Blood Jewels triology and Wen Spencer's Tinker.
  4. I like Prachett books. I never played Dungeons and Dragons or Warhammer games. I didn't even read the gaming books.
  5. I like bedtime reads. I've read in the park on a nice summer's day and I've read communting on the train.
  6. Thanks, I'll check it out. I heard one of his poems read aloud today.
  7. Library first (joined libraries in two different boroughs for more variety), then charity shops (second hand), online (new or second hand depended on the price), online book swaps, ocassionally book shops or I recieve them as gifts.
  8. I try to keep it to one fiction and one non fiction book.
  9. As of nine years ago I do give up on some books, others I persevere at. Jane Eyre took me almost two decades. I got it at the age of fourteen when a friend recommended it. I got through a few chapters put it aside and finished school, moved countries, started college, moved out of the family home, shared a flat, got my own place, decorated it twice over the years then finally I picked up where I left off with the book. I've read thousands of books in that time.
  10. Pride and Prejudice War and Peace The Kiterunner Little Dorrit I can't recall the rest at the moment.
  11. It would have to be a sci-fi or fantasy book at least 3 inches thick at the spine in regular or small print. I'd prefer more of an adventure than the psychological thriller or millitary angle though. A few questions though. Am I in the lift by myself? Do I get a comfy cushion passed to me? If I get offered take-away food who's paying? What would I use for a toilet? I'm a woman, a bottle just would not do.
  12. Reading helped relieve some stress with my teenage angst. The family was going through some rough times then. I have had one period of my life that I couldn't read due to stress ect and my concentration was bad but general I read when happy, sad, bored, excited and maybe angry. I've even read whilst having migraine headaches since the family did not make allowances for sitting or lying in a darkened quiet room. They only gave you space if they saw that you were reading so I squinted and read whilst my head was throbbing in pain but I got some quiet. It got so that I couldn't hear if my siblings shouted at me when I was reading. I'd only pay attention without a book before me.
  13. By the time I was thirteen most books would be finished in one sitting. Those mystery books, Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew would only take an hour each. Novels as thick as those books the same, thicker would be two to three hours. These days finding the time to finish a nice thick book (over an inch thick with in small print) is tricky.
  14. It begins, as most things begin, with a song. Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys
  15. I recall Spawn. I read the whole book due to boredom and the book just happened to be there. It was gory. The guy doing the blood breast feediing was a little touching though.
  16. I enjoyed most Prachett books. Granny Wetherwax is one of my favourite characters. I didn't start with the first book in the discworld series. When I did get around to the first book I was not impressed but the rest of the series I find enjoyable.
  17. Anybody read The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfus? I'm thinking of getting it. It's book one of The King Killer Chronicle.
  18. Tick Tock was great, Sieze the Night and it's sequel was okay but Demon Seed was yucky!
  19. I've enjoyed most books from this take of vampire paranormal romance books. There are one or two phrases I think could have been kept out but on the whole it was enjoyable. Yes this does fall under the chic lit banner.
  20. I've just added two new shelves in my bedroom to help with storage. I mostly don't keep a lot of books since I can get through about 5 a week. I borrow from the library or swap my books or give the excess to charity shops ( I get some there anyway). I also hate dusting shelves.
