  1. I can understand why they are expensive - they must take quite a few hours to make, as it would all be handmade. Cute though.
  2. That's a fantastic idea, bree. Every time you pick a book off your TBR, frankie, put some money in a tin(doesn't have to be much, if I was doing this in the UK, I'd say 50p or £1) to save until you've reached your goal, then you've got a bit of money to splurge on some new books!
  3. Definitely read the book first! The version I'm watching is the BBC series, not the film. It's six one hour episodes and absolutely fabulous. I'm guessing I might get half way through this weekend and maybe finish it next week.
  4. Janet's photos from yesterday have convinced me it must be time for a repeat viewing of Pride and Prejudice!
  5. I've started The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared this morning. Enjoying it so far.
  6. I really loathe the new anti-smoking advert. I actually have to change the channel when it comes on as it makes me queasy.
  7. Good luck, frankie, I know you can do it! Great idea to set a target, it's encouraging to have something to countdown to, and I found it kept me going at times.
  8. Just popped out to the shop and the slush that was on the pavements yesterday is now ice, and even the puddles have frozen over. There was a little bit of snow coming down, but I don't see it coming to much (fingers crossed). The embers in the wood burner were still going this morning, so we've decided to keep that one going through the day, which was lovely to come back to after my walk in the cold!
  9. Ok, these two have now gone on my wishlist!
  10. Hi Jules! Nice to see you back again.
  11. I have this one on my Kindle waiting to be read, and I think I might be starting it tomorrow after reading your review! I'd already seen the other great reviews around the forum, but it's good to see you enjoyed it too. It sounds fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to it now.
  12. If you come to Bath, you'll also get to visit Mr B's Emporium of Books too - my favourite bookshop!
  13. Been listening to Fletcher Moss Park by Matthew Halsall today.
  14. So pleased you enjoyed American Wife, Kay. I can understand what you mean about loving most of it, but I still think it's a fantastic book, and Sittenfeld hasn't put a foot wrong for me yet. She's got a new book coming out this year (June, I think) and I can't wait to read it.
  15. The Big Bang Theory
  16. Decided to start The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz as walking up to the shops looked treacherous and, unlike a Kindle, a paperback won't break if you fall on your backside and drop your bag on the floor! Fortunately, I made it to the café in one piece, so both the paperback and my bum were undamaged.
  17. Thanks to the snow, I finished both Ciao Bella by Helena Frith Powell and Ginny by M. C. Beaton yesterday. Off to find something to start next
  18. Thanks Janet - I see that that mine does look the most expensive out of the lot - and I think they've stopped charging more for in person reservations so whether you go in or reserve online, it's the same price.
  19. Yes, we both then use the same LibrariesWest website and catalogue, but my local authority charges more than yours! I think that's why I can't find the charges on the website, I have to look at my local authority website instead.
  20. We have to pay for reservations too, but ours are £1.20 (€1.45/ $1.90) per reservation, and I'm pretty sure Janet and I use the same regional library service and website, but each local authorities have their own pricing structure, so we could both reserve the same book from the same website and it would cost me more than it costs Janet! I think ours is one of the most expensive LAs for library reservations - I've never seen any more expensive
  21. When I read paperbacks, I'd rarely quote anything from the book in my review, unless it was something that had particularly stood out while I was reading, and then I'd just go back and look it up. Like others have said, now I'm reading mostly Kindle books, I have started highlighting quotes occasionally.
  22. Bit of a hairy drive to work this morning in the dark and fog and it was still snowing as well. Saw one accident and a few vehicles stopped with hazard warning lights on. The worst part was getting to the car park which is down a hill and had two inches of virgin snow on it. Fortunately drive home was much, much better, despite there having been more snow and it's still coming down, the roads themselves were fairly clear now other traffic has been out and about. Hoping it'll clear by Monday, but looks like forecast is for more snow for the rest of today and again on Sunday.
  23. Just one chapter of Ciao Bella left to read, but too tired tonight to finish it, so it'll just have to wait for tomorrow now.
  24. Not long got home from a very long day at work, and can barely keep my eyes open now! Worried about snow forecast overnight and into tomorrow, as I hate driving in the snow, let alone in the dark and in the snow to try and get into work in the morning, and then it's due to continue snowing heavily all morning so I'll have to face driving through even thicker snow to get home. Urgh.
  25. Watched Notting Hill again last night. I'd never thought of it as a particularly sweary film, but the announcer gave the bad language warning before it started, so we ended up counting all the swear words throughout it as we watched. Sad, but true.
