  1. My least favourite Bond film ever - what on earth was it all about??? That's what happens when script writers go on strike! We watched Skyfall again on Wednesday - now that's what I call a Bond film!
  2. I've just watched the latest episode. I hadn't read the books before I started watching the television series, and then I heard that the telly version was better than the books, so I've just stuck with them. I do enjoy it though, but I do still go through stages of getting annoyed with it, then coming back round again ... as I do with most series to be honest!
  3. http://blog.waterstones.com/2013/02/waterstones-week-in-books-quiz-22nd-february-2013/ 5/10 for me today.
  4. Bought a lovely sourdough loaf yesterday, so making the most of it with poached eggs on toast tonight
  5. Hello Richard, welcome aboard!
  6. Hello Chryssie!
  7. I've read about 100 pages of David Mitchell's Back Story today. I did start To The Lighthouse yesterday morning, but my mind kept wandering, so going to put it aside until I've got a day free to dedicate to it.

    Hello

    Hello Gracie!
  9. Janet, I definitely think it would be a good book to discuss. There's plenty of people who enjoyed it on here, and some that didn't (although that might just be me ), but it has lots of characters both fictional and real people who have been fictionalised, and the same can be said for the events in the book too, so I think it could give you plenty to discuss as to how successful people think the fictionalisation and characterisation has been achieved.
  10. Went to see Beautiful Creatures this morning - had the whole cinema to myself! Film was pretty good, and I loved Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson (who, let's face it, is magnificent in every film she's in!), so a very enjoyable Sunday morning.

    Hello

Hello Terry! We're a friendly bunch so hopefully you'll feel like jumping in soon.
  12. I finished How Steeple Sinderby Wanderers Won The F. A. Cup by J. L. Carr today. So, so good. Have a Kindle freebie to read this afternoon, the short story Challenging Zed by Joss Stirling.
  13. I'll save some of this discussion for the reading circle, but I think one reason was because the letters all come from different people who are referred to by their title rather than a name, so I really had to think about who was writing each letter and how each one built the story.
  14. I'm quite a quick reader and although I found it very readable as you mentioned, frankie, it still took me a week to finish!
  15. I love that all this conversation makes me think about is Spaced! Might have to dig out my DVDs this evening ...
  16. http://blog.waterstones.com/2013/02/waterstones-week-in-books-quiz-15th-february-2013/ 8/10 for me this week! I've been paying more attention to the book news the last couple of days, plus a couple of (semi-)educated guesses.
  17. Hello Rosemary Glad you decided to join in the fun!
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. I finished The Miser of Mayfair this morning, and have now started How Steeple Sinderby Wanderers Won The F. A. Cup by J. L. Carr.
  20. Just had our pancakes! Classic, lemon juice and sugar
  21. Just finished Dangerous Liaisons for next months reading circle - loved it!
  22. Got back late from the cinema, so just had a massive salad as it was easy!
  23. We saw a trailer this evening for his new film, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone which looked quite good. I chuckled a couple of times which is always a good sign!
  24. We went to see I Give It A Year this evening, which I had low expectations of, but ended up laughing quite a bit, and on the whole I enjoyed it, but I can see why some people might not get on with it.
  25. Hello Lisa! Working in a bookshop is the dream job for most people here, so I don't think you'll get much sympathy about he amount you spend on books! Welcome on board, it's a great place for anyone who reads
