  1. Star, here's the link to the Amazon UK Kindle Daily Deal
  2. Lovely review Andrea. I read it when it first came out, and I've listed to Bennett narrating the audio version too, and have loved them both. It's too short - I wanted more!
  3. I read that one a little while back. I was a bit disappointed by the end, and I haven't bothered with any more in the series, but I'll be interested to see what you think of it. I've managed to read a bit more of The Hundred Year Old Man Who Jumped Out Of The Window And Disappeared, so I've only got about 100 pages left to go.
  4. Pointless
  5. When you're in the Kindle app, make sure at the bottom of the screen, you have the Device option chosen, and have the List view set (You should see one book per line rather than a grid of book covers - toggle between views using the icon in the bottom left of the screen). Then for the book you want to remove, sweep your finger from left to right across the book, and it will change to say "This item will still be available in Cloud view" with a red Archive button on the right. This means the book will be removed from your iPad, but if you want to read it again, you can download it again either from the list in the Cloud view, or by going to the Manage Your Kindle webpage and sending it to your device again. Hope that helps, but let me know if it's not clear, or if I've missed a step!
  6. It was okay, but it was just relentless and soooooo long. My friend has seen the stage show many times and she thought it worked better in the theatre too.
  7. I finished The Dead of the Night and have picked up The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared again. I also downloaded another book - Dangerous Liaisons for the March Reading Circle.
  8. The Vicar of Dibley
  9. Vegetarian toad in the hole with onion gravy
  10. Went to see Les Misérables this morning. It was good, but so long. It looked great, and the scale is impressive, but it's just so relentless. At one point I was thinking, "please stop singing for just five minutes!" Not sure I'd watch it again though.
  11. I'm going to see Les Miserables today. We had to postpone going to see it on Monday because of the snow, so decided to go for a Sunday viewing instead, and hope it isn't too busy. I don't know anything about the story and have only heard the odd clip of songs from the musical, so I have no idea what to expect.
  12. I've got a few chapters left of The Dead of the Night, so should finish that one today. Although I've got the paperbacks and the Kindle editions aren't cheap, I have bought the Kindle version of the Lucia Victrix omnibus, which includes three books: Mapp and Lucia, Lucia's Progress, Trouble for Lucia. I've read them all read them all before, but Mapp and Lucia is my reading group book for next month, so I want to re-read it before then. I will download the other omnibus as some point too, as I want to re-read them all again. Brilliant books! I've not tried these, ladymacbeth, but I've added them to my wishlist now!
  13. Hello Lorraine!
  14. June, that's fantastic to hear. So pleased for you. Wow, muggle not, congratulations. Although don't let those lie-ins become a habit get up and embrace the day!
  15. Ok, you've dragged it out of me. Yes, it was The Book Thief It's not that *hated* it, but I definitely didn't love it. This was my review from a few years ago ... There, are you all satisfied now? I will now be the forum pariah
  16. Thanks! In a weird coincidence, we're catching up with some older episodes of Countryfile and they're visiting East Sussex and have just done a segment on Virginia. There was actually a mistake at the library, and the next book is Mapp & Lucia (which I've already read but will happily read again) and To The Lighthouse is for March, so I've got a while before I have to read it. OH was saying he'd read it too and enjoyed it, so I'm quite looking forward to it, although a tad nervous.
  17. Downloaded To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf for my reading group meeting next month, and I'm just about to read some more of The Dead of the Night.
  18. Good plan. I've been really good at checking the oil and the tyres regularly and keeping the windscreen washer topped up, but as it's getting older now, it's the added extras that crop up that really flummox me!
  19. Thanks, Raven. I'll see what it's like next week then.
  20. My favourite bit was when Penny was showing the boys how to gut a fish
  21. Well, looks like my introduction to Virginia might be sooner than I thought - my reading group are reading To The Lighthouse for our next meeting. Is it a good one to start on, Kay?
  22. Minor panic at the petrol station today - the lock on the petrol cap was so stiff, it wouldn't lock after I'd filled up and I couldn't get the car key out of it. Took me about 2 or 3 minutes to get it locked and remove the key, which doesn't sound long, but when you're trying desperately not to panic, you're already freezing from the icy wind, and you think everyone is looking at you, I can tell you it feels like a lifetime! Not sure what to do to try and prevent it happening again. Don't know whether to try oil or if I need to get a replacement locking cover.
  23. Oh no, I'm not going to reveal that again - I'll be banished from the forum!!!
  24. I hope you enjoy them Devi! To be honest, Julie, I was being a bit tongue in cheek, but it does amuse me sometimes! There's one particular book that is universally loved on the forum, and I still see people talking about how much they loved it, and although I thought it was ok, it wasn't a stand out book for me. Every time I see someone recommend it, I want to say "No! It's not *that* great", but I keep quiet, and leave everyone in peace
