  1. I will forge ahead, undeterred!! *brave music playing*
  2. This makes perfect sense! It was all confusing when I was writing it, but between you and my husband, it really makes sense why you can swap accents easily, and he can speak perfect English but only accented Hindi. This sounds..... dreadful.......
  3. Oh dear goodness.. and here I am looking sooo forward to it. I hope I am able to get into it. Now I am worried!
  4. hahha.. funny!! Now I know!!
  5. Hiiii! Yoo hoo! Here I am
  6. Great! Thanks!.. and whats DRD mean?
  7. Haha, Kyle.. this is great that your mom kept up with you and made you cheer during a score. Hilarious mental image.. I bet we would have been so boring together at sporting events! Lexie and Jewell ...
  8. I'm sure I'm so far behind in the classics that everyone has already read the "easy" ones I'll be starting with. In my dream world, I would nom either "Anna Karenina," "Jane Eyre," or "Wuthering Heights." But I'm sure 90% of this board has read them anyway. *waving from the back.. all by myself..*
  9. Show us what you come up with!!
  10. I hope so, too! I plan to see the film, after reading the book, of course.. but I am going to go in with NO expectations and hopefully I won't have far to fall off of the disappointment ledge. Was the film REALLY bad??
  11. Don't hide.. you sound like me! I haven't read a classic since I was in college, and don't think I've EVER read one on my own without the instruction and direction of a teacher/professor. I'm going to this year, though! (I'm going to start with either "Wuthering Heights" or "Jane Eyre.") You're not all alone over there!
  12. I laughed as soon as I saw this thread title this morning: "Accents." I have a pretty strong southern US accent.. I actually think it's gotten much less distinct after our moving around, but it still sticks out quite a bit in the places we have lived so far. People can automatically tell I'm from the South. It's funny because my husband is Indian, and also raised in the South, but has 0 accent -- I guess his parents speaking Hindi his whole life cancelled out the risk of a southern accent. So people are always like "What?? Why don't you sound like her, Raja?? Weren't you raised in the South, too?" when they first meet me.
  13. Just started Q&A tonight.. am now on about page 100, and it is a great read so far! The chapters are nice short to medium sizes in length, and the close of each one gives a great stopping point. It's a nice, quick read at this point.. some funny parts, some sad parts, some exciting parts. I should make it through this one pretty quickly -- 285 pages left to go! Book Description from Amazon.com: HOW COULD Ram Mohammed Thomas, an orphan from Asia
  14. I just ran across your review on.. Feh.. it definitely sounds predictable! I can read some pretty light chick lit and even this sounds blah to me! Glad you made it through it though, and it wasn't a total loss.. 7/10 could be worse I guess!
  15. Not sure what this "b" word is.. but yes on the hummus! I LOVE it! I developed a love of hummus quickly here, and sent my mom & dad a list of items to pick me up from the grocery store prior to my visit in America this past November. Hummus was on the list.. poor Dad had no idea what it was. He called my brother, who's a cook, and asked "What is 'who-muss' and where do I find it??"
  16. I'll give the book a pass.. and even the series! But I cannot overlook your love for this movie. But you're right.. you're probably more tortured than I over this.
  17. Good girl!
  18. I'm drowning over here... You have no idea what you're doing to me.
  19. Ooooh we get lychee all the time here.. It's a lychee-overload for sure! Never tried this "sharon fruit" before. I do like Star Fruit though!
  20. Hey, ii and I dragged you into this by talking about you! You are welcome to go off - topic on my Bookshelf as much as you want.. as long as you dance while doing it!
  21. Ohh Roxi.. you loved the movie??... nooooooooooooooooo. Don't say it!! Woe is me.. I cannot take it... hehehe..
  22. Interesting, nonetheless I've added both of those to my list.. so thank you!!
  23. Woo hoo!! I love comments on my TBR list.. I'm forever indebted to this board and it's members for inspiring me to actually keep up with my TBR list, so I always welcome comments! TTW - She sure does love that book, doesn't she?? She really does make me want to read it. And I hear such great things about "The Graveyard Book" around here, that it makes me want to rush out and get that one, too! MoaG - never seen the movie. I'm a big believe in reading the book first and watching the movie second, but from the feedback on this movie, I think swapping the order around could actually be acceptable! HofMirth - Oh dear Gawd.. I'm going to cry my eyes out. Raja's going to think I've gone crazy again....
  24. That's really interesting about the same setting being used for 3 of her novels.. Do you know if she grew up there, or lives there now or anything? I haven't read either of the others you have read.. I'm going to put them on my "Look Up" section of my TBR list to see if I think they may be worth a shot, especially since "The Pilot's Wife" is your fav of hers. I've seen that one and read the jacket, but never taken it home to read. Did you also like "Sea Glass" ??
  25. I know it's been a while since you read it, Iagegu, but this is one of my absolute favorites.. I was wondering how you liked it?
