  3. Hi and welcome, Christopher! We're glad you joined us!
  4. Just okay? Anything on your mind?

Mom's had a great time in HK.. there's so much to see and do here, so she's had a great time exploring and learning about the city. Three weeks wasn't even enough time to do everything, but she got to do a lot!

I love HK.. the weather gets really hot and humid, but other than that, it's pretty much a perfect city for me. :)

  5. Hi Paula! :) Thanks for the msg!

Things are good here.. My mom's been visiting for the past 3 wks, and her trip finishes up tomorrow, so she'll be heading back home to the States. Then Raja's family arrives for 8 days on Saturday night, so I'll be starting the sight-seeing process all over. ;)

How are things going with you??

  6. My mom's reading this book now, and loving it, too. I totally agree that Picoult seems to bridge a gap between women's fiction or chick lit (although I don't think she really writes from a chick-lit formula of any kind at all) and general fiction. The part of her writing that fascinates me is how much research must go into the topics she writes of. Her acknowledgment pages are always chock-full of in-depth resources, and it really shows in her writing that she must bleed them dry of information. She seems like a brave writer -- She writes of so many controversial issues, so you know she has to do her homework first or she'd get slaughtered for butchering up an issue that sparks strong opinions in many people.
  7. Hi Madelyn! Welcome to BCF! Where in Florida do you live? Precious avatar, by the way
  8. Ooh you're reading a new Erica Spindler now! :) Let me know how you like this one!

  9. Hi Mac! Things are moving along over here.. Mom's visit is finishing up tomorrow morning, then Raja's family comes in Saturday night, so I'm going to do a lot of laying out at the pool and reading in between the two visits. :)

How are things with you? Still staying busy?

  10. Well. I was slightly off, but close enough, since the book has pictures!

    What? You need security people?

  11. Hi and welcome, Daydream! Glad you're here!
  12. Haha! I'm so glad your BF understands your need to watch Marines naked in the shower.. That's a true connection you've formed there! :) I've seen previews for it here in Hong Kong recently, and thought of you.. Now you can watch it anytime you want! :)

  13. Scarlette - Glad to hear you loved the book! It's a wonderful thing to have a book speak to you like this one did for you. You said there were 5 that made quite an impression on you.. What were the others besides this one?
  14. Haha so you're not much of a critic, are ya? Just playing.. I'm sure you'll be a reliable source, as usual!
  15. Im with Lucy... Good, but not one of my favorites.
  16. I just started the first book of this set today.. "The Luxe" Only a few pages in so far, but hopefully I'll like it.
  17. I ran across the new book from Jane Green.. It's called "Girl Friday." From the blurb on the back of the book (, it seems pretty predictable and formulaic, but I went ahead and put it on my list since I've liked most of her others. "When Kit and Adam separated after almost fifteen years of marriage, Kit felt like she had lost her lover, her best friend and her identity all in one fell swoop. But now, a year on from the divorce, Kit has found herself again and she loves her life in the idyllic Connecticut town of Highfield. She has the perfect job - working for Robert McClore, the famous novelist - two wonderful children, a good relationship with her ex-husband and time to enjoy yoga with her friends. Then Tracy, Kit's yoga instructor and close friend, introduces her to Steve - attentive, charming, the perfect gentleman - and, for the first time in years, Kit thinks she may have found the right one. But is Steve really as perfect as he seems? And why does it bother Kit when Tracy starts dating Kit's reclusive boss, Robert?" (www.waterstones.com) Anyone else seen this or read it?
  18. Roxi, if you already have an interest in comics and Dante, I bet it's helping a lot! I didn't have any interest in either of them, and from many of the reviews I've read, that seems to be what gets most readers, so you were in luck. I'm so glad to hear you're liking 'The Tenth Circle.' It's Picoult's favorite that she's written, apparently.. Not a bad one to like then! I just finished 'Change of Heart' today -- really liked this one, actually. I can't wait to get my hands on 'Handle with Care' now.
  19. Glad to see you made it through 'Ralph's Party' okay, Dan! Let me know how you get on with this Faber book.. You know it's on my list, too. BTW, I'm starting one of the books we talked about - 'The Luxe' by Anna Godbersen - now so I'll update you as I work my way through it.
  20. Oooh this one looks great, Charm! It looks all scandalous and spooky.. I'm definitely putting it on my list right now. Thanks for letting me know about it! :hugs:

I hope you're well! I can't wait to catch up with everyone once all our company gets home safely and I'm not so busy. I love your new avatar too.. from the same line you like, yes? :)

  21. My favorite place to read is definitely the bath.. I just let out the water once it gets only lukewarm, and replace it with hot water. I've read in the bath since I was a child.. Just never outgrew it, and now I appreciate it in a whole new way as an adult!
  22. Hi Tiernan! Sorry I'm late on the welcome.. Hope you're settling in well here at BCF!
  23. Last night, we had tacos (Raja's favorite) and tonight we're having spaghetti. <---- Look, I'm ready!
  24. Hahah after all that guessing, none of us guessed right! Wouldn't you know it? I've read this one -- it's a great book! It's the one that got my mom hooked on Jodi Picoult, too. Thanks Inver.. this was fun!
