  1. I just read this in Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, a book described on the back cover as "a masterpiece of modern Gothic literature": They peered in at the merry-go-round which lay under a dry rattle and roar of wind-tumbled oak trees. Its horses, goats, antelopes, zebras, speared through their spines with brass javelins, hung contorted as in a death rictus, asking mercy with their fright-colored eyes, seeking revenge with their panic-colored teeth. Isn't that just fantastic? This is SUCH an darkly atmospheric book!
  2. OMG me too.
  3. I've never actually posted a list in this thread. Okay, here are some from the standard tv/food/shopping/music/books categories: - Scarves (I buy some I'll NEVER wear just coz they're pretty) - O Brien's sandwiches (Irish sandwich bar, AMAZING sandwiches) - Boybands (Westlife, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, Hanson....) - Twilight (despite thinking it's rubbish I love it) - My Little Pony (I will ALWAYS love that show). Some slightly more random ones: - Watching cops ticketing illegally parked cars - Organizing other people's shelves when they leave the room - Making ridiculous amounts of tea so I get to spend more time with my brother (who, like me, is introverted, but is also a conversation-minimalist who would barely admit to liking me. He's difficult to spend time with but I love him to bits so I try!) The tea works because he comes out of his room to pour himself a cup and will sometimes stop and chat for a while before going back in.
  4. The local shop was closed, so I had to traipse all the way to the far away shop. As a result, I now own a chocolate muffin as well as my bread, and I don't care.
  5. Personally, though I'll get the most minimalistic version available if there's no cast-commentary, I think it makes more sense to get a New Moon with something limited/New Moon related rather than one with Eclipse previews.... you're going to see Eclipse ANYWAY in time, but you'll never again get, say, New Moon movie cells.
  6. I must run to the shop for some bread, and then I'll be having a chicken sandwich!
  7. I'm reading Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, and I must say it's a beautifully written, mesmerizing sort of book.
  8. 2 pounds is nothing compared to what you have lost Abby, it'll go again in no time. Congrats Kimmy! I'm not feeling the best at the moment, but when I am I'm going to start walking every day. Or at least, trying to. Even if I managed MOST days, I'd be doing a lot better than I am now. I'm also still eating less rubbish. I've a party to go to in just over a month, so at least I now have a solid goal in mind for which I want to lose some weight, which will motivate me a bit
  9. I don't have high hopes for it, all his games since the original Alice have been rubbish. Also, I can't get my copy of Alice to install on my laptop. I am not impressed. When is Tim Burton's Alice actually out?
  10. See! That's what happened to me in Waterstones today! Luckily, I managed to put three OTHER books back on the shelf!
  11. Illustrated meaning some photos and extra text, but extra content is nice all the same! Vlad is in fact about the man Tepes himself, it's the 'true' story behind the man who inspired Dracula! Linkie to Amazon page I've been waiting for this to come out in paperback since last year
  12. Yup! Three or four of my favourite ever quotes all come from Wuthering Heights. I particularly love the one in my sig. It's just so angry and desperate and heartbreaking all in one I often find myself reading chunks of that book out loud, as I imagine they're being said - most of the punctuation in my sig is my own, according to how I imagine it's being said
  13. A spiritualist video editor at that! I'll never forget the time Mary (I think) showed up in a tree-stump somewhere in Ireland, and while the religious nation went nuts, the local priest said something to the effect of, 'sure tis only a tree'.
  14. I probably shouldn't laugh, but he was laughing himself, so....BAHAHA! I would FREAK if a pelican came after me.
  15. @Ned: YUM can I have one? (or several?) I just had a Riband bar.
  16. Nooo, I think if I had any more dinostuffs to cross-reference in my note-taking right now my brain would explode. Anything I add later will be quite literally stuck in the back!
  17. I'd rarely buy a book JUST for that, but if I'm looking for a handy copy of something and I see one with extra funstuffs, I'll grab it. I just read the intro - I really liked it! Makes me want to read the book again right now. I have so many books to read x_x
  18. Well since I didn't actually own a copy of the book itself prior to buying this, I'm certainly not losing anything
  19. Charm I said a slap not a boot up the backside! Man I was sooooooo bold today. "Ah I'll just have a quick look in Waterstones." *20 minutes and €36 euro later* "Four books?!?! How did THAT happen?!! *Sigh* Still, I got two that have been on my Wishlist since last year, one that went on the other day, and a....completely gratuitous one which I cannot justify. I bought: Vlad - C. C. Humphreys Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ray Bradbury World War Z - Max Brooks Salem's Lot (Illustrated Edition*) - Stephen King So I'm quite happy with my unintended haul. *Illustrated apparently meaning: - With 50 pages of 'deleted scenes' - A new introduction by Stevo himself - And two original short stories - Apparently brought to life by some photos. I couldn't resist! Charm, I think I may be needing that boot after all
  20. I've done no reading at all over the last three or four days.... someone give me a slap
  21. Yup and yup! I LOVE Thora Birch (have you seen Ghost World? Fantastic film) and I generally can't stand Kiera Knightley. Although, I wouldn't wish what happens to her in The Hole on anyone. Euggghhh.
  22. Well like I said, I don't believe in any of it either. So I don't know why I'm like that. And, like I said a couple pages back, the possession thing is about the distortion/warping of the familiar/safe into something unknown/dangerous. I found 'The Hole' to be quite a disturbing, if not scary film. I'm fairly claustrophobic, but even without that it's such a distressing film. I always want to go have a shower and run around outside after watching it
  23. I don't agree with them wanting to use SMG either, but I think it would have made for an incredible movie. I mostly just want to see the Cheshire Cat done in high quality graphics. It's SUCH a cool cat!! ETA: Apparently Scott Faye refuses to let it go. SMG is gone, he has no studio and the script needs revising, but he says it WILL get made. Apparently another game is also in the works, but whether it's a sequel or a remake is unsure. Intriguing!
  24. I doubt it. I don't know who my favourite characters are but I usually like characters because they're things I'd like to be, but am not. They'd probably think I was a bit of an unimaginative loser. Except maybe Dustfinger in Inkheart. But he can't be trusted, so...
  25. Ebooks don't feel like real books to me. I'll read them, but it's not like reading a book. They completely lack substance (literally, but also they seem shorter to me) and if I really like the book I'll finish it feeling like I'm missing out on something. So I much much prefer actual books.
