  1. I do try my hardest to keep them in a good condition, but if I've read them a few times then the spines do tend to get a bit haggard! I never fold back the pages though and if the front cover gets bent back then I hate that, so I make an attempt to straighten it out! As for lending them out to other people? I have had terrible experiences! I lent the half blood prince to my sister and it was returned with no spine at all, it had been ripped off by my two year old nephew!!! She's also lost my deathly hallows. And then, I lent Twilight out to a friend and he got loads of food all over the cover! Such an angry post, hehe!! I've learned a lesson though: Never lend your favourite books to anyone!
  2. Wow, I've lost count of the amount of books I've read this year and I've still got 30+ on my TBR pile! The books that stand out from this year though, are: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer Double Cross by Malorie Blackman Harry Potter The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom The Last To Know by Melissa Hill Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult Lots of Adele Parks, Dorothy Koomson and Ceceilia Ahern books! Overall it's been a pretty great reading year for me. I've got lots I want to read for 2009 too so that will hopefully be a similar year reading wise!! Disappointments/terrible reads? All the Psychology textbooks I've been forced to read Secret lives of Pippa Lee - I rushed it to finish it, not for me! Umm... And there's probably more but I may have forgotten them
  3. I admit that the first one is my favourite but I often find that with a series of books. That, or the last one . The other three in the series have a different feel to the first one as there's less focus on the romance side of things. But they're still amazing
  4. I'm quite surprised there isn't a more recent post about this series, I absolutely love them and I guess I assumed they were more popular then they are? The series is: Noughts and Crosses Knife Edge Checkmate Double Cross They're for young adults, I read the first one when I was 13 and still love the entire series now, at 19. I would recommend them a thousand times over, they've got an element of everything and are so thought provoking. For me, they were one of those series that stays with you for a long, long time after you've finished them and can easily be read many times. Without giving too much away, the first book is the story of Callum and Sephy and I would argue it's first and foremost a tragic romance with serious issues challenging them. Such as, racism and terrorism (or freedom fighters...depending entirely on your perspective). The rest of the books follow the story of Callum and Sephy and then the narrator changes towards the end (I don't want to say who to, it may spoil the story!). So, if you're looking for a new series which is as amazing as Twilight (in my opinion) yet deals with issues that are very much present in today's society, then you should buy this. It's amazing
  5. I really like this book. I've read 'Tuesdays with Morrie' and 'For one more day' also by him but this one was my favourite
  6. My friend bought me two for Christmas . One's spotty and one's stripey!
  7. I did exactly the same thing
  8. Thanks for the welcome! I love your avatar too, it's so cute :)

  9. I usually read books that I have been waiting for in one-two sittings. I read Double Cross by Malorie Blackman just over a month ago in one sitting, I literally couldn't put it down! I don't think I read the Harry Potter's in one sitting - but I did read them very quickly.
  10. My books live in my bedroom
  11. I only read them a few years ago . Yeah, I really enjoyed them too.
  12. Lord of the rings - Made an attempt once, never again!
  13. Flowers in the Attic was disturbing. Still loved the series though
  14. I've got to disagree. I was so psyched to read that partial draft of Midnight Sun but to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I found it very repetitive and although it was interesting to hear the story from Edward's point of view, that's about it. I didn't like knowing everything that was going on in Edward's mind, I preferred it when he was mysterious. I hope she doesn't finish it to be honest. The only way I would want to hear a story from Edwards point of view would be a completely different plot and not his view on Twilight. Having said all that, I was intrigued and did want to read more. Especially about the kiss scene and how he might have been feeling during the 'ballet' scene...but I personally think that would ruin how I perceived Edward. Finished now!
  15. Hehe. I think I was quite lucky tbh...I read it before I'd heard about all the criticism about it. Otherwise, I think I would have read it in a different state of mind and expecting it to be terrible. I wasn't keen on Jacob narrating at first but I got used to that. And I was a bit disappointed with the huge build up to the non existent fight, I assumed at least one main character would have died. Not that I wanted them to . But I can understand why so many people don't like it...I think!
  16. I'm more than a little biased as I love the Twilight series. I found it gripping from the very beginning though so maybe it's just not your type of book. I would recommend finishing it anyway. I didn't personally find Bella not knowing frustrating at all. I was eager for her to find out though, but that just made me want to read more.
  17. I've tried to read Lovely Bones a couple of times and never finished it. I'm not really sure why, I just don't think her style appeals to me at all because the storyline seems fascinating. I wouldn't buy another one of her novels as I'm assuming it would be similar.
  18. I love Dorothy Koomson. I find her style different and more engaging than other typical chick lit authors if she can be classed as that. Her best for me was My Best Friend's Girl but I thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
  19. I read this years ago and from what I remember, it was quite a good read. However, saying that, I don't remember the story! It was quite unforgettable but I do know I enjoyed it at the time. Not a favourite of mine though
  20. I've read all of Adele Parks books; her novels are always enjoyable, light reads. But I can't actually remember this one. I'm assuming that's because it was a quick read so the story didn't stick?
  21. I've enjoyed most of her novels. No-ones mentioned Thank for the memories? I thought that was OK. I hardly ever give up on books; I'm usually determined to finish them but with P.S I love you (I don't know why because it was a while back) I stopped like halfway through. It just didn't appeal to me at all. I don't think I'd ever re-read her book, they're just not that kind of read for me.
  22. I'm the same. I love book series/sagas . You should definitely check Noughts and Crosses out though, it's fantastic.
  23. I pretty much use the same one for most of the books I read; a multi coloured stripey one . For some reason, when I read the Twilight series though I used a photograph of the sunset which actually turned out to be both ironic and perfect for the whole series. I picked it up without even looking when I realised I didn't have my usual bookmark with me and just used it for the whole series
  24. OH MY GOD! The series is my all time favourite, I've loved it for six years!! I would recommend it a thousand times over!! Noughts and Crosses being the first. Knife edge the second. Checkmate the third. And Double cross the fourth.
