I love this series of books and do an annula re read of them. Two great choices, for very different reasons. Ishiguro is the master of nuance and undercurrent. His 'Never Let Me Go' is another stunning piece of writing. 'Neuromancer' has got to be one of my all time favourite reads, a great choice.

It's my B-I-L's birthday today, and he is facing financial troubles at the moment (especially today when there is some kind of big meeting), so we thought a takeaway and a cake might perk him up a little. Jeff Lindsay's Dexter series might be something you'd enjoy. There's certainly a moral ambiguity to the novels. Aside from those all I can think of is individual novels where the 'baddy' is revealed to be morally depraved.

You'll soon discover that you have joined a forum of the well read sad ones who would all love to live in a library of one kind or another! I have lots and lots of shelves, but only recently dedicated one to the books I am waiting to read (TBR) ~ I have no idea what took me so long. I keep a lot of the books I read, but I also give them away to family and friends and I charity shop them.

This is always rated more highly than 'Love In The Time Of Cholera', which I have always felt is unjust. I loved LITTOC, and found 100YOS easily forgettable.

I really hope you enjoy them JCW, the trilogy is very good.

It might work if you have never seen nor heard of the UK version. The casting is OK, although in a tarnished original kind of way.

Hello Clare, and welcome to the forum. A few people have been looking to be spooked lately, so perhaps have a look at this thread for a few suggestions, and another one here, and here! There are a variety of possibilities. Or if you want to be really creeped out, there's the most disturbing fiction thread.

JCW, may I suggest perhaps trying 'Tai Pan' by James Clavell? I found the Japan based sagas a little dense at times, but the China / Hong Kong books are a little more active. So far no reading for me yet this weekend, although I have Laura Whitcomb's 'A Certain Slant Of Light' pending for later.

These three! 'A Clockwork Orange' is a powerful intense read that is thought provoking, provocative and interestng not only in it's textual content, but additionally in it's structure. 'The Time Traveler's Wife' I adored, and is a book that you will love or hate, no one feels indifferent to it. The central premise is intriguing and the love story that is woven around this is compelling. 'Midnight's Children' I probably rate among one of my favourite books of all time. Whatever else Salman Rushdie may be, he is a stunning writer and this book captures that in a richly imaginative and beautifully depicted way.

I got two books through the post today. The first I had ordered, 'A Scanner Darkly' by Philip K Dick. The second was a wonderful gift from a wonderful person to assist in my mojo renewal, 'A Certain Slant Of Light' by Laura Whitcomb. It looks like a real pageturner, and I had a tingle of mojoness when I read the blurb. Hopefully the tale it weaves for me will get me back on the reading straight and narrow. I am planning on using my charming cloth bookmark with this one. I've been waiting for the right book to come along, and I think that this is the one.
