  1. Poppy's back view of a windswept pony tailed woman. Just so incredibly evocative.
  2. I've just bought 'Middlesex' by Jeffrey Eugenides, because there is only so many times that I can hear good things about a book before I have to have it for myself!
  3. On a baking hot day I like to sit on my back step. Everything I might need is within reach, and I am in the garden but not actively squishing grass. The cats and the dog like to lounge in the shade of the nearby trees. Perfect.
  4. Election 2010 ~ apparently there has been some kind of voting thing going in today.
  5. I found myself nodding in agreement with your post Willoyd. I think that because we are an island nation, we have a certain mentality that is resistant to a complete takeover of our language by American English. Language is a living breathing beasty and we will no doubt absorb some variations from other cultures and nations, but I believe we will stay essentially British in our language and spelling.
  6. Rubbish! You just ~ Must.Read.Faster! Then you'd have a tally of 0 in no time.
  7. My goodness, you do have discipline! I am a willy-nilly book buyer, and it just means I end up with a huge pile of books to be read, and a few duds that caught my eye in the moment but when I get to read them I wonder why. Welcome to the forum MountainGirl!
  8. You've made me laugh out loud ~ sorry! If this has just happened, take the various 'bits' apart (battery etc) and place everything in a bowl of uncooked rice ~ it should absorb all the moisture.
  9. 1) I love getting older as I am finding it liberating. 2) I sometimes don't recognise my own hands when I catch sight of them. 3) When I am down my eyeballs feel heavy. 4) I love walking my dog in the woods during the chill early morning when there is frostiness and mist. I feel comfortably alone at these times. 5) I sometimes say a grateful "Hello" to my pillow at bedtime.
  10. Hello lauraloves and welcome to the forum. Ah, those Harry Potter books are definitely worthy of the occasional re read. Do you find you get more out of them on a re read, or do you find them the same as the first reading?
  11. I haven't read for a week or two, but I think it's because my son has been visiting rather than a return of a lost mojo situation. He heads off today (my son, not my mojo), so I'll soon find out for sure.
  12. Amazon (UK) appear to have copies available through their Marketplace scheme, and it looks like on or two sellers are USA based. I think you'll find that places such as Amazon or Ebay are your best bet.
  13. A spicy cottage pie, topped with mashed potato and swede. We will have loads of veg with it, but which ones are yet to be decided.
  14. I've not heard of any books like this, although it sounds like it would make an excellent action movie! I will be interested to see if anyone has heard of or read similar books, especially with all the elements you've described.
  15. I'm half watching Outtake TV.
  16. The utterly wonderful Nathan Fillion, found as lead in the Joss Whedon series 'Firefly' and the film 'Serenity', although more recently he has appeared in 'Desperate Housewives'. I caught a little bit of one recently, and hope to catch more. It looks like a series that will develop well. He is charming, and apparently is universally loved by his co stars on whatever programme or filmset that he attends. I may be a bit of a fan.
  17. I haven't, but there is a recent thread here about it.
  18. I really do understand, yet I still would like to hear the one with the cat going crazy and the leg wedged man ~ it's a combination worth knowing more about!
  19. So my local book shop has a weekend sale on. We happen to pop in; 'Zen & The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance' by Robert M Pirsig. 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell 'The New York Trilogy' by Paul Auster These three are replacements for long lost copies. 'Eleven Kinds Of Loneliness' by Richard Yates 'The Worst Witch' by Jill Murphy, for my niece. 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, although this is a Disney illustrated adaptation for my great-nephew. 'Secret Wisdom ~ Occult societies & arcane knowledge through the ages' by Ruth Clydesdale. 'Consider The Birds' by Colin Tudge Total cost?
  20. Gammon, potatoes, swede and sprouts with a tomato soup 'gravy'.
  21. You are right with that one Echo ~ he should have been mentioned already. Not only for his brains and extraordinary thinking, but his totally unexplained longevity.
  22. He has got better with each film, although I would have to say that his fellow Potter actors have certainly surpassed him now.
  23. My son is putting the finishing touches to chicken breast stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese, wrapped in Parma ham. This will be served with peas and mashed potatoes. I cannot begin to express how good this smells! My mouth is watering. I am ready to be fed!
  24. There's always a difference between what I would like to watch versus what I will end up watching, due to the wants of others (husband and visiting son). Son is heading to London on Wednesday, and husband is away to a business week in Europe as off next Sunday. Then I will return to this thread, and I will tell you not only what I wuld like to watch, but what I will be actually getting to watch!
  25. Korma is gorgeous, very mild and creamy. Naan bread is a lovely flat bread that is wonderful for soaking up juices and sauces. Plain naan bread is lovely, although you can get different versions, some with minced meat inside (keema naan), or nuts and raisins (Peshwari naan). Most good restaurants are only too happy to offer suggestions, they want you to enjoy your food and return anther time, so ask away. I'm really excited for you ~ good indian food is great, so you should have a good time.
