  2. Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
  3. 5) Very cheap pens ~ but I had taken a pack in a few months before.
  4. Yes, it is but getting hold of it might be another matter! Amazon UK does not have it in stock. Good luck finding it.
  5. We've had a couple of similar queries; here is one query, and then another one here. They may be some good places to start looking, as they both mention Tom Sharpe.
  6. 7) Miss, miss, you didn't give us any homework!
  7. WHSmiths (UK only) have 'Room' by Emma Donoghue as their current book of the week, and have reduced the price to £3.99 (from £7.99).
  8. 4) I did the homework, but thought that today was Tuesday not Wednesday, and only have my Tuesday books with me.
  9. Husband bought me 'Room' by Emma Donoghue today. It was on special offer (£3.99 in UK WHSmiths).

  11. 3) "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" ~ 'The Italian Job' (the original and best)
  12. That looks like an interesting site noodle. I will have to take some time to take a look around on there. As you can't insert links until you have made over 10 posts I have adjusted yours to show the link.
  13. The Quickreads books are a excellent idea!
  14. I wouldn't be embarassed Himself, Kylie is in a league of her own when it comes to books and reading. She's not called 'The Mistress Of Books' for nothing!
  15. James Patterson is quite an easy writer to read, and he has written a large range of books, so he might be worth looking into. I would have a look at young adult books too. They are often ignored because of their age group, but are often very good books and you will see that a lot of readers on the forum really enjoy them as well written, but quite quick reads. JK Rowling , Angie Sage, Cassandra Clare, Philip Pullman are just a few Young Adult authors I can recommend. Good luck finding some books you enjoy.
  16. Scrooged. Love it!
  17. Straight back at ya VF! Have a great Christmas Day, and give your kids a hug from this BCF Aunty! It's the only day of the year I can insist on handing out hugs!!!
  18. Disconcertingly my first and unthinking thought when I read the question was Clare Abshire, the wife from 'The Time Traveler's Wife'. I liked her character and her talents, and to be honest her relationship with Henry which is intense and devoted, despite it's inherent problems. Then I thought for a little while and I would have to second Poppyshake, and say Thursday Next. However bizarre the scenario, Thursday moves forward with a sense of humour and determination. For an extraordinary character Thursday is remarkably real and easy to relate to. Just how the hell did Jasper Fforde pull that one off?
  19. Val McDermid is worth a read. She has written a number of stand alone novels, as well as her Tony Hill series. Manda Scott, before she wrote her brilliant Boudica series wrote some stunning and captivating novels; 'No Good Deed', 'Hen's Teeth', 'Stronger Than Death' and 'Night Mares'. Carol O'Connell is another favourite of mine. Her Mallory series is wonderful, and her two stand alones, 'Judas Child' and 'Bone By Bone' are haunting. Sara Paretsky's VI Warshawski series are really good books based upon the experiences of a female PI in Chicago.
  20. You can edit your posts once you have reached 10 posts. I love that us book lovers frequently differ in our opinion of a book. It makes debating them that much meatier! There are so many factors that shape our opinions of a book though; life experiences, mood at reading, age at reading , etc. An example of mood effecting my reading is shown by how much I loathed 'The Tales Of Beedle The Bard' by JKRowling when I first read it, and had many a strong word to say on the subject. A later reading, when I had less chaos around me made me really appreciate it's worth. I was in my teens when I originally read John Fowles 'The Magus' and I loved it, but found it beyond awful when I read it again about 15 years later.
  21. The Famous Grouse adverts are a real treasure. I hope the person who came up with the idea was paid hansomely!
  22. That's a pretty cool tradition VF. Do the kids take time to consider what they are going to choose or do they go batty on the day? Oh yeah, if you really want to meet your target, wouldn't a couple of kid's books count?
  23. I only got a little help from google translate.
  24. *signs into Amazon and orders a 'Swedish For Dummies' and 'Metro 2033' translated into Swedish* I'm going to risk the English translation I think, or I will never get to read the book. Eller kanske jag skulle kunna lära sig svenska.
  25. The sign of a true book lover!
